Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

What's that?

My eyes flew open to the sound of squealing tires on the street. Someone had just gotten into a car accident. I lifted my head to my window to peek when I saw a car smashed on a light pole outside my house. Shattered pieces of glass scattered on the pavement, the hood of the car was warped beyond recognition, and tendrils of smoke rose out of the engine.

That's not good, I breathed worried for the driver of the vehicle when small sparks of fire flickered from under the engine. I gasped bracing for what's about to happen when an explosion erupted, sending the car flying off the pavement. Flares of fire rose like monster eating the car with its flames.

Oh shit!

I jumped out of my bed and dashed out the door wearing my pajama. It must've have been one in the morning and everyone was already asleep. I rushed out to the burning car only to be engulfed by the draft of hot steam, forcing me retreat a few steps back.

It was hot, and the car is burning with the driver still inside it.

"Are you okay?" I screamed hopeless and frantic.

I fought the sting of hot air licking my skin as I crept up closer when something strange and out of place caught the corner of my eye.

What in the world?

I whipped my gaze to see what it was when I saw a girl, no more than my age, she wore a fitting dress covered in blood, her face bloodied, she stared at the roaring fire absently as though she was out of it and had no idea what's happening.

"Get out of here!" I yelled at her trying to get her attention, but went unnoticed.

Her gaze was fixed on the fire and the dust of smoke rising in the air.

"Hey!"

She turned and our eyes met, a glimmer of confusion on the way her eyes flickered. "Am I dead?" She whispered and I just stood there in shock stumbling for words that refused to come.

I have never seen a ghost before.

The air around us grew dense. A gush of cool wind whipped from above, causing my skin to erupt in goosebumps. I shivered at the frigid air as I realized I am face to faced with a dead person.

Suddenly, something dropped from above.

The landing came swift that I was left eating both cool and hot air with my mouth open. I gagged, choking on the air when I saw feathers, thick oily feathers that shone reflecting the fire from the burning car. I looked up, breathless at the sight that greeted me.

The dead girl was no longer bloodied. She's now joined by a man, an otherworldly man who stood behind her, his shoulders moved, and I saw the extension of his large wings opened and expanded. He wrapped her inside his appendages, getting ready to push on his heels when his eyes landed on mine seeing me for the first time.

His deep abysmal eyes weighed heavily, sending shivers down my spine.

"Who?" His mouth moved soundlessly but I was too enthralled to respond.
