Chapter 58 - Home of a Detective

Mr. Lukas didn't seem to waver at my apologies. Did I make him angry? I didn't know what to do. So, I thought apologizing would be best. Shit, I made another false assumption.

"Don't let it bother you. A...Got anything notable?" He was rather calm. I thought he would beat the hell out of me. After all, I have seen him in action. How could I forget the torturing moments?

"No, the same."

"Okay," Just like I thought I have been thinking too much.

As I got an overlook of him, A small cardboard box appeared before me. It wasn't huge in size. The box wasn't sealed. So, I could peek at what's inside of it. Some fills, I see.

"As you can see. I'm leaving now."

"Huh? Sir, you don't have to pack all your stuff and go home. This is just a suspension. You don't---" that's what I should have said but rather I said.

"So, you're leaving for goods?"

This was the first time I saw him smiling. The smile that I never got.

"You should be happy. You don't have to follow my rakeless orders now." Unwantedly, I felt sad. I didn't have an answer to his mockery. We having our happy moments here but somebody couldn't stand it so he approached us.

"Oh! What lovely parting moments! Should I bring some wine? Oops, it's not allowed in the office. " He was a person who hates Mr.Lukas. The reason might be easy to grasp but I wonder what the real reason behind his hatred is.

"Noah," Mr. Lukas uttered his name with a bit of irritation. Perhaps, he didn't want to bump into him. Now that he had seen us there's nothing else we. Could do. I moved back slightly making him a place to stand in our conversation.

"What? You guys continue! I was enjoying this movie clip." He was trying to provoke us. But we had a lot of encounters with him a lot. I know nothing best would come arguing with him. But today he was on a rampage. Was he got some power boost because of Mr. Lukas's suspension?

"Well, good for you. You got what you wanted. You were trying to get out of here for a while now. Don't you? Always leaving work and disobeying orders just to catch those patty monsters. You sure deserve this." His face made me want to punch him.

"Stop it!" I couldn't help but speak out. "You're going too far! Mr. Noah! I wouldn't tolerate anymore."

"Hey, hey," He tried to calm me down but failed as I didn't pay any heed to him. I truly hate this person. He would do anything to hurt Mr.Lukas. I heard a rumor that he was once worked under Mr.Lukas.

"That's more than enough, Reyes." Mr. Lukas patted my shoulder with pitiful eyes. I don't know what happened but I got a feeling that he has something to tell me but not here. I backed off and began following Mr. Lukas on his way out.

"Well good luck, Mr. Lukas, I hope you wish you a terrible life onward." Mr. Noah wasn't stopping but we didn't look back and just kept walking.

We were finally out of the office. Mr. Lukas turned around before me.

"You did a great job, Reyes. From now you're free." What kind of joke is it? Free?

"As I'm suspended, I wouldn't be able to give you orders. The Chief would appoint you to under other senior officers like Mr. Noah. So, you don't have to worry about that." Huh? The fu*k? Even if someone gave me a diamond, I wouldn't be working under him.

"As of today, I bid you farewell."

"Wait!" I don't know but I didn't want him to go.

He gave me confused stares. I looked down and uttered those words.

"I know you don't want me to get involved with this internal corruption. However, I'm more than enough involved and I don't want to back off." Shit, why did I say that?

"I-i know it would bring danger on my job. But the times I worked under you, I realized something. Something that I didn't understand in all those years. Devotion! You give away your life just to catch a criminal, just to solve a case. You took this job more seriously than any other person who works here. They just come here and got home. Nothing happens and the case is closed. But you never closed a case unfinished. So, sir, p-please…" shit it's embarrassing, I want to hide myself.

"So, you want to help me?" He said with a gentle smile. The sun was pouring down. The sunset's yellowish light bask his body. It was a pleasant moment. The chilly wind blows past us.

"Fine"

"Seriously! Are you not messing with me?" I jumped out of joy. Fu*k I got carried away by the momentum.

He nodded slightly.

"You better get to work. You can't get late." When I heard that a flash of memories came to me. Right, I did get late. Haha. I scratched my head in embarrassment. In the end, I got scolded by him.

"Here." He threw the car keys at me. Being shocked I somehow managed to catch it.

"Get into the car. We got business to do."

I did as I was asked. We both entered the scratchy old car that was once on demand.

I sat in the driver's seat and Mr. Lukas beside me. The car recks of cigarettes and beer. He must have spend good times living in this car. The steering wheel is thought rounded just like an old model car. The side mirrors weren't clear. I wonder how he drives with those blurry mirrors. I felt like I'll have a hard time driving this junk As I was about to start the car, he stopped me.

"I contacted his friend, Peter. He was his closest friend. He said that Jodan took a part-time job a few months ago."

"Does that thing had anything to do with the case?" I was dumb that's why asked such a question.

"You told me that he never worked more than a month in any part-time jobs."

"Right."

"Look here.."

He pulled something out of The cardboard box he had this whole time. It was a photo.

"Good Meat."

"I understand now. This is where it works now. But then again the shop owner wouldn't take a criminal as their part-timers, would they?"

"Well, only visiting there would give us answers."
