" Put him on the stone and recite the chant."
Layla started reciting the chant while holding hands with Marc and Samone who looked at other gods with hope. Fortunately, the gods responded to their call as the statues glowed brighter under their watch.
The huge energy spread out from the room, creating hundreds of runes in the air while summoning Ammit who was fighting. The goddess swung her fists to grab something but nothing could stop the divine powers as she was sucked into a whirl of power.
" Finally, it is the end."
Arthur sat on the ground with a bitter face while pulling out some snacks from his space, devouring them delightfully even though he was a soul. The sweet taste of chocolate chip cookies and the bitter taste of black tea was the perfect combination in his mind as he enjoyed it.
" You have one for me?"
He turned his head to look at Steve who was in a battered state while holding his new shield. Arthur didn't question his attire while handing a new set to him. The duo silently sat on the sand while admiring the pyramids with the same expression.
One could say they were truly best friends because each move of them was extremely similar to each other and looked perfectly harmonious.
" It was a long night, Arthur. I almost died from his magic and creatures. Maybe I should rethink my decision once."
Steve joked with Arthur while the latter chuckled with a biscuit crumb around his mouth.
" We could have retired if we wanted to do so but the world won't allow that. Besides, James and Sharon are bothering quite a bit. Should I teach them in the future?"
Steve almost choked on his biscuit, drinking the cold tea with a pale face because he recalled the miserable selves of Arthur's children during their spar. Perhaps he wouldn't forget it even if he wanted to do so.
" No, thank you. I will train them. Besides, who might know they would become normal children unlike yours?"
Arthur rolled his eyes, clicking his tongue to express his regret. He didn't believe that Steve's children would be normal and on the other side, it would be fun for him.
" Anyways, we have fulfilled our roles here but I don't think this is the end because the gods have been too active after the fall of Asgard. What should we do now, Arthur?"
Arthur didn't change his face while chewing the biscuit, making a crunching sound but Steve could tell Arthur was bothered by the situation. After all his eyebrows were twitching from the anger and his mood dripped instantly when he mentioned the gods.
" We will be like as usual. But it won't be simple after all. They were aiming for my weakness and our retirement, Steve. The world will be in turbulence once again. Maybe, we should push out new heroes quickly.
Otherwise, things will go and forth without result. The governments are also looking at us like us we are some kind of thorn in their side."
Steve didn't refute his words, acknowledging it was indeed the truth after the instance of new government heroes. Especially he had to let Sam go to the government to fill out his seat, yet they dared to move like that.
" Sooner or later we will have another big battle, but we will be prepared that time. The best defense is offense after all. We will chew them out before they can swallow our meat."
Steve grinned when he heard his words, knowing Arthur had planned everything and he trusted him with his life after spending many years with him as his friend.
" You know, Arthur. We should hang out like old times with our original teammates. It has been a long time."
Arthur patted his shoulder to agree with him, knowing they had been together for almost 2 decades. Furthermore, everyone had families and they needed to catch up like old times.
" Yeah, after fixing this. I have one more thing to do, Steve. It isn't a pretty thing but I have no choice since it is their territory. You know I have to follow their orders if I drink their water."
Steve narrowed his eyes when he heard this, guessing this had something to do with Ammit and Harrow.
