Soraya waited for Meghan and Liam. They arrived together. But something was not right. Their faces were not okay. They saw her and arrived next to her.
-Hi Soraya, how are you?
-Hi Liam, I'm fine but...what's wrong with both of you?
-That's...
-That's! That's that you can't meet Michael today. He called Liam and said he couldn't make it.
'Ah'
-Well that's fine by me, Meghan. Don't worry about it.
-Ahem...we can have dinner here either way. I heard this place has good reviews on the internet. We should probe it Meghan.
Meghan didn't have a good look in her face but finally she sat down next to me and Liam next to her. There was an awkward silence.
Liam and Meghan had been dating for about a year now. They were both in love and that could be seen even for strangers. They had their 'space' for them. Sometimes they didn't even need words to communicate. Liam worked at a IT or computing company.
He was cute or so Meghan says but he is quite charming. He had dark green eyes and black raven hair and he sometimes wore glasses. He had a sweet air around him or so Meghan says.
-Guys, let me tell you about something that happened before you came...
And so, Soraya told them about the show they didn't get to see.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Peace and monotony returned to Soraya's life after that night. She worked at Jane's cafe then returned home or went out with the girls. Sometimes she spent full days at home, reading books, listening to old music and seeing old films. She surfed the internet too.
One week later, a morning working at the cafe...
-Jane you put the Christmas' decorations too late.
-If I put them sooner, it wouldn't feel like Christmas, don't you agree?
-Well, if you say so...
Soraya and Jane put them the night before. It really wasn't all that much work but they couldn't leave for the day with the clients.
Soraya was on the counter when she saw a familiar face. Or two to be exact. The man of the ex-couple show at the restaurant was coming right to the counter, right to her and...the other face, was Liam's. So they made eye contact.
Liam was grinning.
-One black coffee and another with milk, please.
The man was right in front of her. She knew he was tall but having him right in front of her made all more clear. He was over one eighty, maybe in the one ninety's. This time he was wearing a white sweater ang grey pants, with a red scarf. His face seemed to be sculpted as the statues of the classics of Greece and Rome. He seemed to not have shaved for days and so he had a stubble beard. But he still was handsome. She looked right into his blue eyes and she was stuck.
-Miss? Are you...okay?
Soraya returned to her senses.
-Yes...yes...sir. I will do you right now.
'Oh my god, that sounded so wrong!'
-The coffees...one black and one with milk...I'll prepare them right away.
-Haha...cough cough.
Soraya could hear him laughing at her. She was so embarrased she wanted to hide. Luckily, making coffee relaxed her. So she could return to normal.
-Here you have. That'll be six pounds and thirty...
-Are you sure that 's the right amount?
Soraya wanted to run, really wanted to run away from him. How could she make mistake after mistake in front of him?
-Sir, that'll be.....sorry for the wait.
Jane sensed that Soraya was having troubles at the counter so she came to help her. Soraya was beef red right now. And when she saw that man she understood why. 'Ah Soraya, Soraya...' Then, she too saw Liam with a weird face but...laughing? She was about to go and tell him off but he was making signals for her to not do it.
Soraya was still looking at that man and that man was too looking at her.
-Sir, sir, please pay.
Then that man came to his senses and paid. And left with Liam. Soraya was quiet, still in place.
-Soraya? Earth to Soraya?
-Huh?
Soraya finally returned to earth. 'It can't be'. 'That man can't possibly be that Michael right?''But Liam was here with him'.
-Jane...Liam was here too right?
-Yes, he was...
-Jane, I think that's the man I was to meet last week, Michael Landson.
