Chapter 1 - Fear Will Always Tower Curiosity

"Curses" An affliction considered dangerous by society. Although 10% of the human population being born with physical abnormalities. Anything from wings to gills. Super strength to super speed. This was deemed "normal" safe to society. The ones called cursed are the ones whose abilities go beyond physical appearance or ability. Less than one percent of the human population is afflicted with this. Curses are fairly weak most of the time.

The ability to do simple things like moving small objects or see into the future. These curses scare people and yet there virtually harmless. But there are those, the rarest of the rare. The ones born with curses much more powerful. These people are labeled "blighted". In the earlier centuries, these people were labeled witches some were deemed possessed. No one realized till many years later that these were genetic mutations like the physical changes that occur regularly throughout the population.

In today's age, Curses are deemed wrong, and dangerous. My mother used to tell me that "fear towers curiosity" people feared their curses because they refused or simply didn't want to feel differently about them. I used to think she was speaking of fairytales. People that powerful can't really exist in our world. And if they ever did, they can't still exist now.

I never realized just how wrong I was. Because now I wield my own curse. But mine is more than just a normal curse. I am "blighted". I found out 11 years ago after I murdered my mother's killer with my blight. There are only four people in the world who know what I did.

Rai, the man who saved me and brought me to this organization to escape persecution, Ms. Levina the woman who took me in and has since raised me, My father who after finding out what I had done abandoned me because of my blight, out of fear of what I could do, And myself of course. 11 years after my mother's murder and I still think of that night every single time I close my eyes. And it's the first thing on my mind when they open again.

My mind has been plagued with nightmares ever since that night. I rarely ever sleep and when I do I see the most horrible memories from my past. That night on replay inside my head unable to erase it. Or make it go away. After that night Rai took me to an organization called the Haryeth. A facility located in one of England's most secluded fortresses.

The Haryeth took me in. They gave homes to cursed children that society turned their backs on. If your curse was powerful enough then you were to train to become a soldier and work with law enforcement to arrest those who use their abilities to harm society.

I always thought that I would be doing good. That I would be doing right by society. And I am, But I don't understand why curses have to be used for the benefit of others or else their evil. If you don't serve those who would otherwise turn away from you then you have done wrong.

I guess it's always just weighed on my mind. After I turned 15 and completed my training with flying colors I was sent to high school. A school full of students who were to become services to society.

Some call us heroes. Those of us who trained to become soldiers are seen as real-life superheroes. And I guess if you think about it that's exactly what we are. Not all of us have curses though. Some of us are people with physical abilities who want to better society. Some of us need this to survive on our own. Others see it as a privileged to be here. I guess it just all depends on the hand you were dealt in life.

I have recently started my final year at this school. The fourth and final year is more for students to gain experience than education. Students spend the entirety of the year interning with someone who has already taken up the mantle of "hero".

I'm supposed to start my internship within the next few days. Ms. Levina told me it was someone like me. Someone she took in personally at a young age. There aren't that many of us and none of us have ever met each other.

As far as I know, there is currently only one other person. He is very well known by the people. He's known for being one of the fastest heroes alive. From what I've heard I hardly think that he is who I want to spend the next year of my life with. He's very capable of teaching me a lot about how to protect society. Whether he's willing to or not is the real question.

He's known for being one of the most "Neutral" people in the country. He acts as if nothing matters, He does what he's ordered and nothing more. There are so many other possibilities so why him?

"The hero that flies higher than the sun" Is what they call him. He was born with the wings of an angel. His white feathers fall from the sky as he flies. Let's say because of his appearance he has more than a high approval rating among the people. I don't really know what to think about him. I don't know what to believe. Maybe I'm just overthinking this. Most likely he's a perfectly reasonable person. At least I really hope that's the case. Cause if it's not this is going to be a real pain in the ass of a year.
