Ebony's head burned, she tried to open her eyes but everything was fuzzy. It felt like a weight was pushing on her body. She could barely hear Silas calling to her, then she slightly made out his kneeling form beside her on the floor. She tried to move her head to look at him but the weight pulled it back down. She felt Silas grab her arm and shake her slightly before hoist her up, putting her arm over his shoulder and holding her waist. Her thoughts were muddled, last she could remember was the doll's face as she fell to the floor. She didn't notice they had begun to walk, Silas bracing her against him as they made their way upstairs. Before she knew it, she was being placed gently down on a soft surface. She laid down thankfully, accepting the warmth and softness. She tried to move her head again to look at Silas, who draped a blanket over her. She wanted to thank him. She felt her mouth move, sluggishly, barely forming words. "Hank oo Ilas." Was all she managed to get out before darkness enveloped her still foggy senses.
When she finally woke up, it was to the smell of food. She pushed herself up, almost forgetting where she was. Her head had cleared now and she quickly remembered everything that happened the past few days, including the ritual just done on her spirit. She looked down at her arms that she used to push herself up. They weren't seen through. They were pale and slender, she rotated her hands to look at them and saw the fine cracks of the doll's hands. "It worked!" She called out, shocked. Her voice came out in a dry rasp, scratching the back of her throat making her go into a coughing fit. Silas jogged into the room. "By the Gods, you're awake." He ran to her side and grabbed Ebony's shoulders, inspecting her top to bottom quickly before a big smile stretched across his face. Ebony managed to stop coughing and returned an equally large grin before hugging him suddenly and beginning to laugh. Being surprised by the sudden contact, Silas took a moment but then hugged her back and laughed before pulling away. "Stay here, don't push yourself. I'll get you a drink to wet your throat." He got up and left the room leaving Ebony to her joy. They did it! She was alive again. She looked around, she was in the living room on the couch that sat across from the two chairs they sat in earlier. She caught her reflection in a glass cabinet door and saw the doll's reflection. It wasn't so creepy now. She was still pale but she could see the life in her eyes, she was alive again.
Silas returned with a glass of water, she took it and thanked him before gulping it down. "Careful! Don't choke!" Silas jumped forward, grabbing the glass as Ebony sputtered, slightly choking on the liquid. "Sorry." Ebony said as she smacked her chest, trying to clear it more. "I was really thirsty." Silas gave her a goofy grin. "Guess I'll have to babysit you for now until you can get used to the living world again. Can't have you choking on water right after I bring you back." Ebony laughed. "I guess so, sorry again." Silas shook his head, his grin still on his face. "Come on," he reached a hand out to her, offering to help her up. "I have food in the kitchen for you, I'll help you out there." Ebony took his hand and he helped her stand. She wobbled a bit and Silas helped her steady herself with a guiding hand. Together they made their way to his kitchen. It was cozy and warm inside, a stove with a counter and other appliances sat on one side and a small table sat on the other. Food and plates were already set up on the table. Mashed potatoes, corn and a steak sat on a plate that Silas sat her down in front of. Her mouth watered. It smelt so good. "Eat slowly." Silas warned with a smirk as he sat her cup down beside her plate, already refilled with more water. He sat down across from her in front of his own plate. "It might be a little cold now, I was just about to go try to wake you up when I heard you call." Ebony went to get a forkful of potatoes but remembered what Silas said and put some back on her plate before putting it in her mouth. "Tastes good to me." She said after swallowing. Oh! She forgot how good food tasted. She was surprised she could even taste in the doll's body. Silas smiled. "Thank you, I worked hard to cook it, it's been a while since I cooked for myself and a guest." Ebony continued to eat, gradually allowing herself to take bigger bites. Silas began to eat as well. "How long was I out for?" Ebony asked, looking up and noticing the dark night sky outside the kitchen window. "Well," Silas looked at the stove's clock. "We did the ritual right after sundown, around nine p.m. It's one a.m. now so about four hours give or take." Silas replied as he cut a slice off his steak and took a bite. "I'm sorry to keep you up so late." Ebony felt slightly embarrassed, she didn't mean to worry Silas or have him cook for her. "No problem." Silas reassured with another one of his kind smiles. "I'm glad to help you and I knew you were going to be hungry when you woke up, plus I was getting hungry myself." He laughed, it was a sweet, genuine laugh. "After you're done eating though, it's straight to bed. You'll need your rest." Ebony laughed, quirking an eyebrow at him. "Really fitting into that babysitter role aren't you." They both laughed, enjoying each other's company.
After they both finished eating, Silas stood up and took both of their plates and cups to the sink. Ebony went to stand but he motioned her to stop. "Not so sudden, you're still not used to your new body." He walked over and helped Ebony up, letting her steady herself on his arm. "I think I can walk alright on my own." Ebony retorted, giving him a smile. "Alright, I'll show you to the guest room then." Silas motioned for her to walk ahead of him. She took a few steps, feeling her feet hit the floor and her body adjust to it. She almost felt like a toddler again, learning how to walk. Silas chuckled slightly behind her. "Are you making fun of me back there, Mr.Fox." Ebony jokingly called back to him as she braced herself on the doorframe. "No, no, just observing. You may continue, Miss Woods." She could hear the smirk in his voice, making her laugh. Her legs quaked from the laughter and almost gave out beneath her. Silas, laughing also, caught her arm and helped her stay up. "Alright enough fooling around." Silas said, chuckles still floating through his sentence. "Let's get you to bed." "Alright." Ebony laughed, accepting Silas' arm to help guide her through the house. They went up a flight of stairs and down a hallway. It seemed just as old and cozy as the rest of the house was. Silas brought her to a closed door on the right of the end of the hall, just across from where the open bathroom door was. He opened it and led her into a homey little room. It had a twin bed inside, with light grey sheets, blankets and pillows that matched the grey painted walls, a small bedside table with a lamp sat beside the bed. A white dresser sat on the far side of the wall with a mirror, a window with white curtains drawn across it was on the left wall with a closet in the right corner. It was perfect for her. Silas helped her to the bed and sat her down. "In the morning, we can get you more clothes and discuss more about what we're going to do. For now though, get some rest. I'll see you in the morning." Ebony nodded, she could already hear the bed calling her name. "Goodnight Silas, thank you." Silas nodded with a smile as he closed her bedroom door. "Goodnight Ebony, sleep well."
