Chereads / Life as a system / Chapter 9 - Chapter 8: Explain

Chapter 9 - Chapter 8: Explain

" Ah, right. Sorry for worrying you." He smiles gently. How beautiful he looks smiling... Usually he's expressionless. But I wasn't worried. ...maybe a little, but not that much!

My hands lightly squeezed his hips, with a tight smile I ask, " Explain." Explain what the fuck happened. Why did you come out running so urgently?

" Um, first let's separate a bit-" He says conscience of our position. His hands push my shoulders a bit, before I interrupted by pulling us closer.

My smile drops. " Now. Please." I add a please to not scare him. Though for some reason, he still has that small, soft smile on his lips.

" After you dropped me off I found out a couple things. The servants are under the rule of Alex's- my step-mother, so they informed her that I returned after a night out." He smile turns upside down. " In the afternoon, she barged into my room. Screaming at me for being a disgusting... anyway it seems that family is homophobic. They got away with bullying Alex because the father never cared as long as he didn't die or disgrace the family. And they didn't dare to take it too far recently since Alex became lovers with you. After throwing a tantrum, she locked me in my room, saying something about having to teach a motherless child manners. The entire day I was blasting music with my phone, so when I smashed the door lock no one noticed. I waited until around 8:00 and then I ran to you." He finishes with a proud smile.

" Ha." I smile helplessly. " Good job." I place my hand on his cheek, softly rubbing it. " I'll keep you with me from now on."

He leans into my touch like a puppy and nods.

" Works for me." Of course it does, the second highest grade S system decided take you under its wing. I'm the biggest golden thigh you can hold on to.

I pull him down. " Let's go home."

" Home..." He blinks. Suddenly he chuckled, in mild amusement. " Okay, let's go home." For the first time he takes the initiative to hold my hand.

Did I say something?... I feel like something changed, and I like it. It feels like he put down one of the many walls in his heart.

I fiddled with his fingers, again, in the car. He was fidgeting less than the morning ride earlier today.

We arrived at one of the many mansions I have under Blake's name. This one will be the one I mainly use from now on. It's style was futuristic and modern, with an open living space. The color schemes through out the mansion are mainly shades of black, grey, blue, and white.

Holding his hand, I lead Alex to the kitchen and push him to sit on a high chair behind the island.

" Have you eaten dinner yet?"

He shakes his head side to side. " My step mom said they would starve me for three days."

" I see. Well, is there anything you'd like me to make?"

Assistant Jie gasps. "Sir! There's no need for you to enter the kitchen. I can call a chef to come here in less than 15 minutes. "

Ah, I forgot about her. Her and the bodyguard followed us in. The bodyguard, Jean was a also a friend of Blake's and lives in the guest room where ever Blake decides to reside in that night.

She was about to leave but my offer to cook for Alex shocked her. Blake had never in his life stepped into a kitchen to cook. Blake disliked staying in a kitchen because of the stove. It's fire reminded him of how his parents died in a car accident. He was at the scene himself. His father saved him, but died trying to protect his mother from the fire.

They could have been saved if not for the fire that ingulfed the car, keeping away those that tried to help them. He wasn't, per say, afraid of fire. He wasn't traumatized, nor scared of it. He merely disliked it to the point of avoiding it. No one even knew of this. However, the subordinates closest to him had misunderstood, they exaggerated that dislike to a trauma.

I turn around. Sighing, I order them. " Assistant Jie, you can head home now. I'll see you tomorrow morning."

She opened her mouth, but shut it as I narrowed my eyes at her. She glances at Alex, then nods understandingly.

I shoo Jean away as well. " Jean, you can go relax in one of the guest rooms."

" Got it." Jean says casually before he goes off to his room. Jean looked serious and strict, but that was only when working. He was actually easygoing and chill, lazy too, at times.

Like in my company office, while I was working my ass off he was reclining on my couch, reading a book. It was day one at work for me but I was already pissed off, how did the original Blake not get annoyed at him?

" What was that about?" Alex raises an eyebrow.

" They think Blake is traumatized of fire." He tilts his head, in confusion. I explain, " His parents died from a fire during a car crash."

"Oh." He solemnly nods.

" Anyway, have you thought on what you want to eat?"

" Can you cook?"

" I can."

" Then, can you make me tteokbokki?"

" That's a snack." I raise an eyebrow. Does my host have unhealthy eating habits? Now that I think about it, during the two meals I've shared with him today he didn't eat the meat and played with the vegetables. He only seemed to enjoy the croissant, fruits, and juice.

" It's pretty late for a full meal. And I don't want to get indigestion while sleeping." He blinks innocently while dishing out excuses.

But he is right, it's 9 right now, too late for a heavy meal. I sigh, " Fine."

I enter the kitchen to make tteokbokki, spicy rice cakes. I take off my jacket, fold up my sleeves, and put on a grey apron. Then I start prepping everything I need. He watches me bustle around for ten or so minutes.

" Alex." I turn towards him, catching him as he was sneakily trying to watch me.

" Y- yeah?"

" You can go watch on the T.V. if you're bored."

" Okay." He gets up, heading to the living room.

" Ah, right." I back track, and head towards him. I call out to him when he's already settled in the couch, about to turn on the T.V. " Alex, not too spicy right?"

He turns towards me, " Hmm?"

" You don't like spicy food, right?"

Surprised that I remembered from when he told earlier this morning. " Right. And add cheese, please." His lips arc up slightly.

" Okay." I nod, smiling. I then return to kitchen.

~~~~~~~
I call Alex to come eat on the island table. " Here." I place the plate of food in front of him. " Enjoy."
" Thanks, chef." He smiles, digging in.
I clean the mess I've made while he eats. He finishes in 10 minutes. He brings up the dishes to me, as I'm washing a pot. " Anything I can help with?"
" Dry them and put them away please." I grin.
I had stopped showing hosts my human form, because most of their demands skyrocketed even more when they saw I had a human form, but he... he hasn't made any demands? In fact, he figured out situation in the Seahprie's household before me.
" Dry this with a towel and put it up there for me." I direct him, handing him the last plate I washed. I grab a towel to dry my hands.
He does as told, but seemed to struggle when putting it away. The kitchen was designed to Blake's height of 6'0 feet, so those under six feet would struggle a bit reaching.
I lean back on the counter, watching my host. He dries the pot I used and stands on his tip toes to reach the highest cupboard. Hm, is he gonna...? He so is!
I dart across the kitchen to reach my clumsy host. I catch the pot, that would've hit his head, with one hand while the other catches my host around his waist.
" Careful now." I put away the pot then steady my host.
" Thanks." He breaths out, putting down his hands that were prepared to protect his head.
" Your welcome. But this is the fifth time today you trip over nothing. And Alex's body doesn't any problems?" I muse over it.
" Ah that... this is how I was in my own body, I didn't know it would follow me from one body to another." He grumbles, slightly pouting.
I chuckle.
" Not funny." He pouts even more.
" Stop pouting." It makes me want to bite your lips. " It's fine, even if you're clumsy, I can always catch you."
" Thanks." He nods, slightly blushing.
" Your welcome." I hold his hand, leading him out the kitchen. " Let's head to bed now." It was already 10 at night.
" Ah, right. Where will I be sleeping?" He asks as we reach the second floor.
I lead him to the master bedroom. Opening the door, I answer him. " Here."
I close the door after us. I let go of his hand as I head to the large white built in closets. I grab a pair of pajamas for host. " There's a bathroom right there, wash up and change. Extra tooth brush is in the cabinet and leave the dirty clothes in the hamper."
" Okay, thanks." He says as he heads to the bathroom. l look at his back as he goes in. I've never been thanked so many times in one day by a host.
It may seem like I'm overreacting, but the past two generations of hosts have been really problematic. Most of them have mental issues, ranging from idiocy to various degrees of batshit crazy. That's why I've been passing a ton of ex-hosts to the lower rank systems. The low level newbie systems can't pass hosts around, at least until they reach mid levels.
I shake my head as I grab myself shorts to wear. Usually I sleep naked, but in consideration of my host I shall yield for now. I go to the bathroom in the guest room next door, to wash up and get ready for bed.
Host comes out as I walk back into the room, locking the door behind me. I turn back around to see my host checking me out. I stand still letting him enjoy the view.
" Uh, ehem." He clears his throat, embarrassed. " Um, why are you here?"
" To sleep." I smirk.
" Here?"
" It is my room."
" Oh. Then I'll head to the guest room." He walk towards the door behind me. I lean on the door, crossing my arms, causing my muscles to flex. " Um, excuse me?"
" Alex."
" Yes?"
" What's our relationship?"
" Partners." He answers right away. How cute.
" As in?"
" System and host."
I chuckle. " And?"
He blinks for a second in confusion. " Ah." Finally, he gets it.
" What's your answer?"
" ... Lovers." Blushing, he says quietly.
I walk closer to him, ruffling his hair. " Good boy." He gets dazed for a minute, staring at my abs.
" Eyes up here when I'm talking to you, sweetheart." I tap his chin, breaking him out of his daze. I chuckle for the nth time today because of him.
" Then don't walk around half naked." He lightly swats my hand away.
" You're lucky I'm even wearing a pants. I like to sleep naked."
He coughs, turning his head away from me.
" Come on, time to sleep. I have work and you have college tomorrow." I pull him by the hand to bed.
Once I stuff him in and tuck him in he asks, " Ah, wait a minute!" He huffs, pulling the blanket off his face.
" What?"
" You said I have class tomorrow?"
" Yeah, at ten."
" Not that. I meant since when? I fished around Alex's bedroom at that house, but I never found any text books or anything indicating he had school. How'd you find out?"
" From Blake's memories that I received. You also received Alex's memories, didn't you?" I raise an eyebrow.
" I did, but it's kind of vague. It was mainly about his happy childhood with his mom, then his dad neglects him for more than ten years, and his abuse from his older step brother and step mother. I don't think that lady knows if Alex goes college, otherwise she wouldn't want to lock me up for three days."
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell him that in the first couple times he enters a new body, the body's memories would be vague or even completely missing.
" He was doing online class. He told Blake, a week ago I think, because they were picking a time to go on a date."
" Oh. Makes sense. But how do I do access what I need without knowing the websites or passwords?"
" I'll get you all the information you need tomorrow morning." I poke his head to push him back on the pillow. " For now, sleep." I say sternly. I head to the other side of bed and settle in.
" Fine. But are you sure you want to sleep next to me? I have some bad sleeping habits." He grins, turning over to his side facing me.
" Good night, Alex." I ignore what he said. As an actual human now, I need my sleep, so bug off host.
" Night."
