Chereads / Her Deadly Secret / Chapter 6 - Chapter Five

Chapter 6 - Chapter Five

As soon as I got out of the hospital, I called that sexy cop, Maddox.

"Detective Garcia" His voice sounded slightly hoarse.

"This is Violet Summers"

"Ms. Summers, what can I do for you?"

"Please, just Violet or Vi"

"Okay Violet."

"I need you to meet me. I think I have some information you'll be interested in. On the corner of 100th and 10th ave. There's a small private diner on the corner, be there in 20 minutes, don't be late." I hung up, and started getting ready. It was about 15 minutes later when I got to the diner, Maddox was waiting for me.

"Hello" I said, approaching him. He was dressed casually, in a pair of jeans and a flannel button-up.

"Hello, what was so urgent that you had to discuss?"

"After our visit in the hospital, I received a very strange visit from a man I did not know. He said that my father had a very big secret. That I was his secret. I guess my father was living a double life. Things are really messed up." I then went on to tell him the rest of the conversation.

"Okay, have you went through your father's things?"

"Not yet. I don't want to do it alone." I confessed.

"I'll help you. Maybe we'll find some answers."

"Okay let's go." We got up from the booth, and started for the door.

It was a 15 minute walk from the dinner, about 3 blocks from my house. My house was built in the 1920's, made of original brick, 2 story house. I walked up to the porch and unlocked the door.

"My father's study is upstairs" I took off up stairs. Maddox went to search the rest of the house. Leanna came over about 30 minutes later, to help us go through all the stuff.

My father's study was a mess. Typical. Beer cans everywhere. I walked over to my father's desk and started looking through all his documents or anything I could get my hands on. I could not find anything that led to my father living a double life. I turned my father's office upside down looking for a safe. I know my parents have a safe, I've seen it. I just don't remember where. I looked in my father's middle drawer and found the key to the safe. Now to only find where it is. Maybe it's behind my father's portrait? It doesn't hurt to look. I took the portrait down and sure enough, the safe was behind it. I put the key and opened it.

Pictures. Of a woman and little boy I've never seen before. Maybe this could be my answer. I started to look through more, when a knock came from downstairs. I ran down to fetch the door.

Instead it was a woman with a boy around my age who looked to be a few years younger. I soon realized, it was the woman and boy from the picture upstairs.

"Can I help you" I asked nicely as possible.

"Yes, is this Jake Adkins house?" The woman inquired strangely.

"There's no one here by that last name"

"Does a Jake live here?"

"Used to, why are you asking?" I asked, rather irritated.

''Because I am his wife and this is my son Tyler"

I was totally stunned. My father did have a whole other life. I have a brother.

"There is only a Jake Summers but come in and I'll see if I can find some photos to see if this is the right person you are looking for" I told them, opening the door wider and stepped aside.

"What's your name?" Asked Tyler

"Violet" I said sticking my hand out for him to shake. Soon Maddox was beside me. Leanne was off in the house packing things.

" This is Maddox, We'll go look in the attic for those pictures for you"

"Okay thank you"

I went to the hallway in the back and opened the top to the attic and climbed up the ladder. I haven't been in the attic for years. I finally found the box with all of our family pictures in it.

"This was the best one I could find" I told her handing over the picture.

It was of him holding me on a swing when I was 5. Those were the good childhood memories I forgot but somehow I remember that one. Who knows why?

When the woman looked at the picture she seemed stunned. As if like he really was her husband. I guess she wasn't aware of my fathers double life.

"excuse me" She said, getting up rather hastily.

"But is he your husband?" I asked.

"Yes he is. Are you his daughter?''

"Yes but I know him as Jake Summers"

The woman basically ignored me and walked right out my front door. My father really did live a double life. How thoughtful of my father to leave me with a mess to clean up. I now know that this must be the big secret that mystery man was talking about.

"I'm sorry about my mother, she can be a little rude sometimes" Tyler, the nice boy spoke up.

"Well now what?" I asked, jokingly.

"I want to get to know you, I mean you are my sister"

"Yeah okay, how old are you anyway?"

"18"

"Awesome. I need to go talk to your mother."

I walked out the door following her. Something about her just didn't feel right to me. I followed her to the warehouse across the street. She rounded a very dark corner. It was almost dark outside so I could barely see. When I did see her, I saw she was with a tall figure dressed in all black. I wonder if it's the man that came and saw me in the hospital. I crossed the street to the warehouse, rounding the corner hoping to get close enough to hear. This is fucking insane, I'm going to get myself killed if I get caught.

"You're being reckless Victoria, You're going to ruin this plan before it's even really begun."

''What the hell am I supposed to do? That girl is the spitting image of him." Victoria said with utter disgust. They must be talking about my father. What other secrets did my father have?

"You need to lay low and wait until I tell you it's time, soon the girl will pay for her families sins." I wanted to vomit. I could not believe what my ears are hearing. I'm going to die, now the question is when? What the hell did my father do?

"What am I supposed to say to Tyler now? That his father fucked a hooker on the job and was a dirty cop? He wants to meet Violet now, why do you still continue this vendetta against Kate and Jake? It's been years, why are you still holding on." The man walked up to Victoria, slapped her across the face, ''Don't ever doubt me bitch or you'll be next. You know why I have my reasons, maybe you need to ask yourself, why are you doing what you're doing. We all have skeletons darlin, we're all doomed for hell." He turned and walked away. I stood there, flabbergasted. This doesn't make sense. Why was my dad a dirty cop? He fucked a hooker? figures. I made my way back across the street to my house. When I got there, everything was a gory gruesome mess.
