Chapter 5 - The Man Who - Just wanted Sleep

I watched him adjust in his seat, he was staring at me, mentally willing me to go on with my story.  I smirked. He wanted me to spill my guts and tell him everything?

He wouldn't be able to comprehend it though, I stared at him with a sad smile as I reminisced.  I let out a little chuckle at the thought of his tiny brain imploding from the unbelievable tale that was the life I'd led previous to my arrival on Lilene.

"What exactly do you want me to tell you?" I asked, He looked at me, sharp eyes boring into mine. "Everything, Tell me everything. Might as well start at the very beginning while you're at it and explain why you look the way you do".

Staring right back at him I slowly melted into my seat, took my hands off the table, and sighed. "I don't think that would be possible. At least not right now, There's somewhere I have to be, Something is wrong with Quila".

That probably wasn't what he wanted to hear seeing as how he slammed his large hands on the table and bellowed at me. "Who the bloody hell is Quila?! You are under arrest! don't you understand? You aren't going anywhere until I'm convinced you've told me everything you know about the dome! What is wrong with you even?!

Outside the room, through the looking glass, the junior inspector was furiously scribbling away in absolute awe of his superior's technique. There was no way this guy wouldn't tell his darkest secrets now.

As the thought crossed his mind he swallowed and adjusted the collar on his uniform, He knew he would.

Back in the room, Finny sat in his seat, not in the least beat flustered by the inspector's display of force meant to intimidate him.

His mind was elsewhere, his coffee was still nowhere to be found and he was being deprived of his much-needed sleep.

He had a feeling things were about to get a lot more hectic suddenly, he would miss his lazy and gentle life back in Lune. As his thoughts trailed on Finny lifted a lazy gaze from his gloved fingers and glanced pointedly at the inspector. " In case you haven't noticed, I have nothing more to say. I've told you more than enough for now. My name is Finny and I've been a traveler for a long time now."

Saying those words, he realized just how tired he was from all of that snd that his travels were not over yet.

The universe had no plans of letting him retire into the obscurity and peaceful life he craved.

"I'll be leaving soon, but for now, I just want to rest". After saying that, he put his head on the table and drifted off to sleep. Something he prided himself on doing at will after eons of practice.  A storm was coming and he had to be ready.

This was an interrogation room! People didn't sleep in interrogation rooms! They screamed, begged, confessed all their evil crimes, and told him everything he wanted to know.  This particular session was not going how he imagined it would.

Tempted to shove Finny off the table for daring to sleep in the middle of their conversation, he got up suddenly but then saw the spiral markings on Finny's dark brown skin glow in a steady throb. Flashes of light from white to amber pulsed from Finny's skin and suddenly he thought better of it.

Grabbing the files on the table instead, he spun and headed for the door to the room, slamming it on his way out. This was pure and utter bullshit.

He wanted to talk to the arresting officer, he needed to know where and how they had caught this guy.  On his way, he noticed the junior officer staring at him in awe.

"What are you looking at?!" The officer started fidgeting and stuttering trying to speak but failing miserably.

"That's what I thought... You! What is your name? No, don't even bother. Run to the palace this instance and summon the palace historian, tell her to meet me in my office".

Turning away from his shivering junior, he continued his walk down the III hallway. He was still intimidating, there was just something fundamentally wrong with that guy in the room he had left.

He would get to the bottom of this, he just had to.
