Chapter 169 - Ch 169: The Wild Horses

~ I followed Maria right up this ending trail that was at the edge line. The trail leads right out of the woods and into this beautiful meadow. It had short bright green grass and colorful flowers. Also, there was long high golden grain grass patches growing in different areas within the meadow. Up ahead you could see the creek cutting through a different forest, to travel into the forest we left which is behind us.

"This meadow is breathtaking," I said smiling big as my eyes wander around as we walked.

"It is quite a spectacular sight," said Maria. "The creek cuts through the meadows then flows into each divided up forest."

"I can see that," I replied gazing at the creek further up ahead.

Randomly, Maria said in such excitement, "Quickly, let's grab some golden grass." She roamed up to some golden patch of grass that was up to our chest. Some blades might have been slightly higher.

"Maria, what are you going?" I asked while watching her breaking the grass into shorter strands.

"You'll see, Sally," was her replied. "Collect some golden grass."

I giggled and join her, together we broke up a handful of these fine-grain golden grass blades. Once we had more than enough, I thought.

Maria said starting to sprint off, "we need to get closer to the creek."

"What's this about, Maria?" I asked trailing from behind as I giggled. Suddenly, I heard these neighs.

"Look, Sally!" Maria giggled excitedly.

My mouth dropped into an open curved smile. To see this herd of beautiful wild horses coming directly up to us. These beautiful wild horses came in a variety

of colors. Some had painted patches on their coat in unique patterns. Others were solid colors like black, brown, fawn, tan, white, and so on. Also, they had a handful of precious foals with them.

A large group came right up to Maria and me. Others veered off and started to drink the water or they were eating the golden grass that grew between where we stood.

"Come here boy," Maria called out and whistled to this one particular horse.

This large male horse was a light fawn color came to her. He had a white face and the tips of his legs were white too.

"This one I've been bonding with for Some time now," Maria told as she started feeding him the grass. "I am bragging John to let me have him."

"He is beautiful," I said before asking when I started to feed this dark chocolate brown body and white legs female horse. "Won't he miss the herd?"

"It's an open fence he can come and go as he pleases," Maria claimed. "I'd just get him used to riding. Only our Kingdom breed horses are fenced in."

"They're so friendly for being wild horses," I said awestricken.

"This breed of wild horses is very friendly. The males aren't even aggressive with people." Maria declared.

I could only smile and went to this male horse that Maria favored. I pet down his long neck and felt his coat was soft like velvet. Maria kinda went off to her right to grab more grass to feed different horses. But I stood here entertaining Maria's horse. Until he sorta left to get a drink at the creek. I decided to head over towards Maria feeding two small foals.

That is until, I heard something sound like some sorta creature was in distress. I turned around and heard it screaming and squealing just over this golden grass that was above my head. Without time to think, I started to walk in the direction of the noise.

"Sally, stop!" Maria yelled and ran to me asking. "Where are you going?"

"Don't you hear something crying over there?" I told her before walking in. "I think it needs help!'

"I don't hear anything." She tugged my hand stopping me. "Let's head back before the guys come home. John texted me and said they'll be home shortly. He suggested we should get ready. So we can leave once they arrive." Maria said trying to change my mind while I still heard whatever it was crying.

I yanked my wrist from Maria and bolted into the higher grass! "First let me see what is crying!" I shouted hoping Maria heard me.

"Sally! Come back, Sally!" Maria's voice cried out to me but I ignored her and focus on where that sound was coming from.

"Sally, come back it might not be safe!" Maria still called somewhere from behind me but I had just reached the clearing. So I couldn't turn back now and stepped out and started looking about. I was shocked to find this newborn foal trapped in the mud. Without thinking, I went to the baby horse.

All the while I still heard Maria calling my name but I paid no attention to her. I looked at the infant horse to notice this horse creature was a different horse breed. It had tiny-looking wing stubs developing on it's back shoulders. Other than the dirty mud caking its small slender body. The infant was a pure white solid coat color. Upon seeing me the infant horse lifted its neck and started screaming louder. It swam its legs stuck in one spot from the suction of the wet muddy puddle keeping the infant trapped. So I kneel to the ground on the edge side of the mud and touched its snout.

"It's ok, little one," I cooed to soothe the infant horse. "I'm going to help you."

Those big clear round blue gem eyes seemed to twinkle at me. I wasn't sure why but it felt as if the newborn horse understood me. He or she instantly calmed it's puffing snort and cry that would break anybody's heart.

"Sally!" Suddenly Maria scrambled out of the tall golden grass. Her hair was now messy like she lost a fight with a blow-dryer. Then the sheer terror written on her face didn't help that crazy lady vibe she was giving. Her eyes gaped hugely and her lip was even quivering.
