Chapter 170 - Ch 170: Exhausted Infant

"S-sally, we n-need to go," Maria scarcely stutters. "This species of a horse is dangerous."

"Not until I free this baby horse," I was quite adamant.

But Maria said adamantly too, "the baby's mother will get him. We need to leave before she comes."

"No, Maria," I gave her a dirty look and said sternly. "I don't see his mother, after I help him will leave."

Maria only nods to see I wasn't going anywhere. She stares off in different directions like she was waiting for the mother to come, was my guessing.

So I gazed into the baby's clear blue eyes and then pushed him out of the mud by sorta rolling his body. My shorts and hands were getting covered in mud. After some pushing the baby was free but he collapse on the ground from exhaustion.

"Ok, he's good! Maria said nervously. "Let's go before his herd comes."

But I couldn't leave the poor exhausted infant alone and pet his neck asking. "Are you sure he's a boy? He's so pretty for a boy."

"From his wings, "Maria explained trying to control her fright. "These species of horses the males have wings and some of them will have a horn on their head. We call the males Pegasuses. The females don't grow wings. They only have a horn on their head so we call them unicorns. But the males are very aggressive and their wingspan is powerful. They can't fly but they can knock you down from the wind created when they flutter their wings. So we need to leave before the herd and his parents come to get him."

Still rubbing his coat I said smiling at this baby Pegasus. "I wonder how he got stuck."

"He must have gotten trapped in the mud without the h-herd realizing he's m-missing." Maria shuddered.

"Ok, Maria will go," I tried easing her stress. "Just let me say goodbye."

Maria shook her head trembling horribly.

So I touched the baby's head saying goodbye by looking into his eyes. I wasn't sure why but I felt like he was somehow mentally connected to me. I gave him a last warm smile.

Then I looked at Maria to say something but I saw her face is in sheer terror. I followed where her eyes were looking in the direction straight ahead of us. Now my eyes gaped when I saw this beautiful pure white female horse called a unicorn approaching. She had one single spiral horn on her head. The baby cried to her as the mother replied to his call by squealing back in a low pitch.

Before I even had a chance to move. This large herd of huge horses comes in from behind the mother unicorn. The male horses called Pegasuses were large and had such beautifully feathered wings on them. Just like Maria has said some of these magnificent males had a horn on their heads while others didn't. Then all the female horses only had horns on their heads. This interesting horse breed was either a solid black, pure white, or sliver color, I noticed.

The one pure white male who had a horn on his head stared at Maria and me. I didn't stall and got up from the ground, very cautiously, and backed off slowly towards Maria somewhere behind me. Never did I take my eyes off of this bull Pegasus and I walked back forwards. Once I reached Maria, I found

she was frozen scared. I stood next to Maria still not taking my eyes off this unhappy male when he passed the muddy puddle. This male Pegasus kept his frightful eyes fixed on us.

"Maria step lightly into the golden tall grass." I merely whispered. "Will hide inside it."

Suddenly, this male started to expand his wings. He bucks up his front hooves in the air. Just before stomping his hooves to the ground. Maria and I jumped unevenly balance with fear. The ground slightly shook from underneath our feet. A line of other very angered male horses joins beside this more aggressive male. I got the hint he was the alpha and it was pretty apparent that the infant was his offspring.

Coming from the distance, we heard this loud howling. Which causes these horses to squeal out louder. The male scaped his right hoof across the ground. He was about ready to charge us!

Unexpectedly, Luna and a lot of she-wolves leaped out of the golden grass guarding Maria and me. The horse didn't like it. He begins to withdraw his wingspan in full. Then flaps his wings which causes a heavy wind knocking the wolves, Maria, and myself to the ground.

The horse stomped again as it aggressively snorts. The wolves got up growling, showing their white sharp teeth. Then the baby horse cried as three male stomped their hooves and stepped forward to attack the she-wolves. But Beast came charging in with male wolves that stood taller than their females. They growled aggressively making the horses more hostile.

Some of the wolf pack leaped forward attacking three pegasuses by snapping their teeth at the horses. The wolves merely missed an aimed bite on their chest or hooves. They growled loudly and a few she-wolves continuously howled.

This one sliver female unicorn screams out. When a reddish-grey wolf went around these males and bit down on her one knee. The horse ended up kicking the wolf. And the poor wolf was thrown across the ground! Causing bad injuries making him yelp in pain.

A black pegasus almost ended up crushing a red wolf with his hooves. But that wolf moved out of the way in time. A fawn wolf was bucked over the golden grass while yelping. From attacking a pegasus on its back.

Again Maria and I fall to the ground from standing. I could feel the ground shaking under me. The powerful vibrations created by these horses were unbelievable.

The powerful stomping caused the wolves to back off but they still growled. They started cycling around us for protection. Those sharp canines showed as they cycled us like prowlers.

Cory's men came bolting out of the tall golden grass. Which makes the horses scream louder upon seeing the men. The males formed another protective line. Daniel and Zig went between the wolves grabbing Maria and me off the ground. Daniel had me and Zig had Maria and they pulled us behind their bodies for protection. I also saw Ash and Mason were here same with that other man (Hunter) I had seen that day Cory killed my master.

"We need to back up into the golden tall grass," Mason instructed, standing off to the side.

Slowly, we did as Mason said but as we were leaving. I looked at the baby again now standing up by his mother when he cried out loudly. Suddenly all the male horses backed away and started to turn around with their females and offspring. The mud-covered baby Pegasus followed his mother. Before taking its last look at me like he was saying goodbye. Then the herd walked gracefully back into the woods.

"That was unusual," Zig said in front of Maria.

"No, that was lucky," Daniel said vastly in front of me. "That could have ended badly."
