Chapter 82 - Chapter 82: The breathing Diamond

My body was stiffened while my mind flashes back on that horrible attack. The blood I witnessed forever painted its image on my memory. Even though the light may have been shining yet darkness kept on surrounding me. By replaying the terror I somehow survived. Regardless, if I was Immortal it still hurt to pass into the lifeless state. Dying into the lifeless sleep was something I had never once faced. The thought of it was scary while my mind kept thinking about that attack.

My thoughts were troubled while staring at the window in complete silence. I could barely handle what I had witnessed. Those poor women and Maria's pregnant friend. All she did at that party was talk about how excited she was to have her first child. If she wakes from being revived. I couldn't imagine the pain she'll be in.

I've always heard mothers grieve hard for three days after losing an unborn. Then I've always known getting pregnant isn't easy. All pregnancies carry on a different term. It's known to be dangerous to carry an unborn during lengthy years or over three months with any term. Compared to a month term or on rare occasions you can have a week term. Since all babies develop at their own rate.

Therefore, I wanted to cry for those ladies. I know a lot of women there were pregnant. There were over millions of hybrid-people getting heartlessly slaughtered... It was heartbreaking.

I've always heard Kings and Barons were so ruthless. Never did I imagine it would be to this extreme.

Scary to think that these men seemed to know who I was. It was even terrifying another man chased after me. Why did they want me? I've never once seen them in my life. I've only just been taken captive by Cory. He's only just proposed to me... Here I am engaged to a man, I don't even know... I paused my thoughts for a second...

And looked at the proposal ring on my finger. Then tried to take it off to get a better look at it. But it wasn't letting up its grip. What the heck! It was like glue on my finger, so I continued to pull but it wouldn't budge. Like it had somehow attached itself around my finger like a tiny serpent.

"That is a truly beautiful engagement ring my son made you." I heard this strongly spoken voice say, as I looked up to notice this tall vast handsome older youthful-looking man took a seat beside me. As he held out his hand asking, "May I?"

I was nervous as ever to realize this was the first time I'd met Çory's father. As I shook my head lightly stretching out my left hand. Being gentle he took my hand and studies the engagement ring for a second.

"There is a reason why it can no longer come off your finger." He said in a soothing voice.

"Why can't I take it off my finger? I asked confused, "I was trying to get a better look at it."

Tony softly explained, "Because it's become a part of you. It's living and breathing with you. These diamonds are unique. Cut out from the ground beneath us. Kingdoms use them for our wives no matter the ranking. It symbolizes you are wedded and claimed since we ever divorce. Unless marital rules are broken. No one can take it off you not even yourself. Only your husband can remove it off your finger. If someone tried to sell you as a slave your husband can always reclaim you."

"How would someone try selling a wedded woman?" Puzzled, I asked.

Tony explained, "Being in the Kingdom or with a Baron. Enemies can capture you and sell you at the black auctions for a good deal. The higher the ranking the higher the price. Royal women and children are the highest priced. It is considered illegal marketing. Our Kingdom does its best to shut them down but corruption always finds a way. So wearing these special diamond bands ensures those illegal marketings can't take your ring from you. Your husband can always claim you back easier."

I sorta nodded and looked back out the window. I wasn't sure how to respond. Things were too much for me. As the sun was widely awake. The rays glistened beautifully across the sky. As it eased my drained mind.

After a moment, Tony said sincerely, "I am truly sorry for what happened. I know none of this is easy being taken out of slavery. Then handed off to my son as his bride. Now you had to go through such trauma being confronted with an attack so great. I know you're not fond of my son and most likely feel hatred for him. Since he did share with me earlier after the proposal that you told him you hated him."

Almost whispering, I said dazedly at the window, "I don't hate him." Shortly I paused. "I don't necessarily like him either. I hate it more because he's pushed this on me. When I don't even know him or much about Kingdoms for that matter. Now I'll be a Primary Queen." I then paused for a moment and slowly looked at Cory's father. "But I am grateful he saved me from that man who was trying to capture me." Yet with a slight head tilt, I asked "I just don't understand how the one man knew my name? I only just got a name. How can someone I don't even know can somehow know me by my new name?"

Tony said gently with a distinctive look on his face and his eyes gaped, "Well never mind that now. You need to rest my dear." He handed me a blanket from his left side on the seat and wrapped it over me. "Lay down. Do try to sleep."

He then got up and walked out of his room. Taking a breather, he quickly called Cory outside his closed door.
