Chapter 5 - Boredom at its Finest

The man in front of her was clearly human - a live breathing being. Yet what separated him from the rest of humanity was his outlook on life and the cruelty of his actions. Biologically yes, he's not a monster. Metaphorically?

She didn't want to answer.

Was it cruel for her to base this man off of his image? Was Syrin really a monster? He did treat her like a pawn during their conversation. There was no respect in his tone of voice. Yet, could she really believe that he was, to the depths of his hearts, a monster? With the confusion of her resolve came the simplicity to her answer.

"I don't know." Liliana wasn't sure if this was the answer he wanted to hear, but it was the only one she could muster. "I need to know you better to make my decision."

The look in his eyes shifted. Was it disappointment? Syrin bend his head back against the sofa and looked up to the ceiling. "And here I thought you were fun."

What the hell did that mean? What kind of answer was he expecting?

At that moment, Liliana truly understood that no matter how hard she tried, she would never be able to understand the man in front of her. His way of thinking, even in regular conversation was too abstract for her to comprehend.

It took all her strength to not ask more questions about his comment. After all, if she were to question his thoughts than it may bring his interest down more. It wasn't her goal to keep him entertained, but if she brought some amusement to him, at least he wouldn't treat her terribly. Or that was what she wanted to assume.

He lifted his head again to reveal his regular expression, though more dull than before. "Well," he began. "There is plenty of time for you to know be better Liliana. Maybe then you'll change your mind."

Plenty of time? She wanted to minimize her time interacting with this twisted family. "What do you mean?"

Syrin stood up from his seat. "You'll figure out soon enough."

He glanced over at the door. When Liliana followed his gaze, she could see that the butler was at the door. When did he arrive? She hadn't noticed his presence. But then again, how could she when Syrin was in front of her.

"Hey Winston, is my brother ready?"

Winston bowed slightly. "Yes sir."

Syrin brought his hand out to her. "Let us go."

Although reluctant, she took his hand. It was cold. A shiver went down her spine. She was reminded of winter. How was the man able to endure this temperature of his?

"Thank you," she said.

Syrin let go. "No problem."

The butler started moving and she followed. She could feel Syrin's gaze on her the entire time, but she chose to ignore it. The man was unpredictable. The best she could do was to minimize the amount of interaction she had with him.

----

Syrin observed the young girl a bit more. Her footsteps were light as if she didn't want to be heard, yet her presence stood out amongst the dullness of the mansion.

A beauty to behold but average in excitement at best. She had her moments, but it wasn't quite what Syrin wanted. In his missions, he had met many different women, some more aggressive, others more nervous, but most around her level. All have died. Some by his hands, others by his enemies.

Liliana Grace.

A new girl after a month of staying secluded at home. The prisoners bore him. His brother was always in his office. But with a bit of work, he could mold her into the perfect being he wanted her to be. After all, she was a lot more permanent than the others.

As he thought of all the things he could do to her, his real smile returned back to his face. He was excited to see her face when brother would finally drop the news. He couldn't wait to see the expression on her face shatter.
