Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"Dominique if you don't get your ass down here right now I'm leaving!" My sister screams from downstairs, she has anger issues, I swear. Regardless of her vain threat, I'm taking my time tying my hair. Fayola and I have lived together for 4 years now, since our mom left, she's been like a mom to me, almost. Dad's an alcoholic, he drinks way too much for his own good, and he only comes home once a week at most.

"I'm waiting for Devante to pick his shit up off the floor this stupid boy" I respond, deciding on tying my hair into a high puff and dusting my bed off for the last time. Devante is our little brother, he's six so I can't really say shit about him. I head downstairs and grab my backpack, racing Fayola to the car. She drives a 2013 Corolla, boring, I know.

My family isn't exactly rich, we just make the most of what we have I guess. She pulls up to the school, public school, or as I like to call it, the trenches.

"Dominique close my door and remember to clock into work on time today" Fayola says. I work at McDonald's, and I have a night job too, something 'exotic'.

I slam Fayola's door closed and head for the school hallway, ah yes, the beauty that is public school, the ghetto.

"Hey, Pierre!" Toby shouts from behind me, I swear he's always trying to find new ways to piss me the fuck off. I don't answer him, instead I pick up my pace in the slightest bit, and walk towards my registration class. "Wait up Pierre I have something important to ask you" Toby shouts from behind me, he's breathing heavily, running, even. "Yes, Tobias?" I don't other turning around, I barely even look over my shoulder to look at him from behind me. He runs in front of me, breathing heavily, and he puts his hand up, gesturing for me to stop, "Don't call me Tobias, that's weird, and there's a party at my place, wanna come?" He's giving me those puppy eyes of his, which in as much as I can't resist, I have work tonight. "Can't, I'm busy." I open the door to my registration class and talk to my friends.

While he stands there, looking like a lost helpless puppy.
