2006 - Metropolis, Kansas - Oliver Queen's apartment
I phase through the balcony door and walk in. I look around when a cascade of arrows is sent my way, I catch them all. Then, more arrows are sent my way, but then they shock me. When that doesn't work, more arrows are sent, but this time they explode when I catch them.
Oliver comes running at me and starts fighting me, and I just lightly deflect all of the attacks to avoid injuring him. This goes on for a while before I put him in a bear hug and say, "I just came here to talk."
Oliver gulps and looks scared, "Ok. Looks like I have no choice, but to listen." He then grabs a hidden knife and stabs me with it and it shatters.
"Damn it. And I liked that knife." Oliver said.
"I certainly hope that you're done testing my defenses and we can have an actual conversation. Or do you have more tricks up your sleeve. The last guy I talked to was relentless. But something tells me you're more amenable to conversation." I simultaneously complimented him and chastised him.
"Ok, fine. Looks like I can't even put a dent in you. What do you want, and who are you? How can you do that? I've heard rumors of someone like you, but I didn't believe it. I thought it was just some exaggerated freakiness that came out of that hick town with the meteor rock infections. Mayberry, was it?" Oliver said.
I smirked and answered, "Answering your questions in reverse chronological order: it's called Smallville not the fictional town from the Andy Griffith Show. My name is Superman. And I've come to invite you to the Justice League."
"Superman? The Justice League? You're making a joke, right? This sounds like something out of that Warrior Angel comic book. Why would you even want me?" He asked.
"This isn't a joke. The Justice League is a new organization I've started. It gathers people with special abilities or talents who use them for the betterment of mankind. The ultimate goal is to organize our efforts in the event something happens wherein the threat is so big, we can't help but band together out of necessity. We also want to coordinate efforts. A kind of 'you scratch our back, we scratch yours' deal. If you get in over your head, you can contact other members." I explained.
"Why would I need something like that? I'm small time. If you're here, something tells me you know about my activities. I just rob from white collar criminals and thugs and reappropriate it where it belongs." Oliver said.
I made eye contact with him and said, "You can do so much more. Be so much more. All that time you spent on an island changed your perspective on your life, didn't it? You no longer want to be a billionaire playboy. You want to make a difference. You thought sticking it to corrupt officials was sufficient, but it's not. Join us and see for yourself what you're capable of and what we can do for this world."
Oliver's eyes lit up, "Well, I'll give you this: you certainly can make a good speech. Ok, color me interested. Do you have a secret decoder ring?"
"No, the ring thing is more for the Legion of Superheroes from the 31st century," I answered. "Here. Wear this watch. It's connected to my AI and can also monitor your health and alert me or the team if you're in trouble. Please don't dissect it in attempts to reverse engineer the technology. It can lead to...explosive results. If you're worried about me snooping on you, just know that if I wanted to monitor you, it'd be easier just to listen to you with my super hearing or have my AI hack your company remotely. I respect my members' privacy."
Oliver still looked reluctant, but said, "Okay. I'm going out on a limb here, but there's something about you. You could obviously have killed me already if you wanted to, so I'll take a leap of faith and give this a chance."
I smiled and said, "Good. Here's my card. Come to Watchtower when you get a chance and check out the place. It's our headquarters. Feel free to offer any extra goodies or give access to your personal or company's satellites if you wish to enhance our capabilities. The more we collaborate, the more effective our team will be. And if you think I'm just hitting you up for money, you should know that we already have finances for the team, but more money never hurt anyone." I winked.
"See ya, Oliver." Then, I vanished.
