Chapter 3 - 3. Vergil And Damsel In Distress

Eiji had finally left the library and once again wandered the streets.

He passed by a couple of shops, observing the variety of things they had to offer.

He didn't have any money, so everything that was put on display, he couldn't afford. Orphans at his orphanage weren't given an allowance. A few year back, they may have gotten a few bellies, but there had been such an influx of new children that their hands were now tied behind their backs.

Of course for Eiji, this also meant that he will soon have to bunk with another child, regardless of whether they want to or not.

A turn of events he was not looking forward to. They couldn't keep giving him special treatment after all.

Soon enough he reached the orphanage.

It was 12 and a quarter in the afternoon, so still in the middle of the day. Eiji wouldn't usually come this early, but today was one of the days he'd let his body rest. For the most part anyway.

Having an uchihas constitution gave him leverage in this world, even more so as he had a pure bloodline.

Upon birth, all of his senses were already enhanced. Most babies weren't able to see, but he could clearly tell who was holding him and the features that person had.

And as he grew older, he kept getting stronger, faster, and more agile even without training.

Despite that, he hadn't progressed much in height, something he detested. He was rather tall in his old life, so the height difference was definitely something he didn't enjoy.

But he had adjusted to it now, so it didn't bother him as much. 'Just hope I don't stay short forever.'

When the sun decided to clock out for the day, and the smiling moon hung over the skies, Eiji would train like a madman, on most days.

On both of his wrists and ankles were adjustable weights. They weren't large enough to be noticed so he kept them hidden underneath his long sleeved shirt. Of course he didn't want to stunt his growth, so he never made them too heavy. Just heavy enough where he could get a hard workout in.

These items weren't from this world, and were the last thing he haggled from the god that reincarnated him.

He skipped up the dirty stairs that led to his floor, and walked past the matrons office, which was also located on his floor.

In total, the orphanage had four floors. The first was a large cafeteria, and the rest were floors that held rooms to all of the children, and staff in the building.

On the 2-4 floors, were at least a hundred bedrooms. So from this, one could see how large the building as a whole was. However, that also meant it was a drag to clean. Some workers would even laze on their job, so the building collected a bit of dust and dirt over the years.

It didn't help that the children would often come inside with dirty shoes after they played in the rain.

Eiji frowned as he reached his door. With his sensitive ears, he could hear shuffling movements in his room. On top of that, the door had been slightly propped open.

'Please don't let it be what I think it is.'

Entering the room, he spotted a boy, similar size to himself, walking and scanning the room after he had set his belongings.

The mysterious boy also turned his head, and flashed a smile. "Sorry to intrude, but I'm your new roommate!" He was energetic. Great... just the type Eiji disliked the most.

The boy had stark white hair, the kind Eiji's never seen before. And dark blue eyes. He wore black shorts and a white T shirt, and some sandals.

Eiji glanced towards the boy momentarily, shut the door behind him, and hopped onto his bed, then closed his eyes. Completely ignoring the boys outstretched hand.

Awkwardly scratching his head, the boy continued packing his belongings. He didn't have much, besides a few clothes, and posters. He wanted to decorate the room but wasn't sure if Eiji was fine with that.

"Hey, do you mind if I decorate the room a little bit?"

There was no reply, so the boy went ahead and stuck his posters energetically on the wall. Eiji stealthily opened one eye, and involuntarily let out a thought. "...Mihawk?"

The boys head snapped in Eijis direction, as his eyes sparkled with excitement. He ran across the room in what felt like the blink of an eye. Greatly surprising Eiji. "Yeah! Are you a fan as well?! Do y-"

Eiji pushed the boys face back. "Calm down."

Realizing his mistake, the boy collected himself, and cleared his throat.

"Sorry about that," he said. "I tend to get a little over the moon when talking about swordsmen, especially the greatest swordsman in the world, Dracule Mihawk!" He finished as he pointed to the large poster he hung on the wall, looking at it with deep reverence.

Talk about fanboying.

Eiji nodded his head. If the boy hadn't caught his attention before, than he had now. Moving at speeds like that was impressive, especially for someone his age. Bar Eiji, the kid was probably faster than everyone in the orphanage. And Eiji was sure that hadn't even been his top speed.

On top of that, he took notice of the callouses on the boys palms. Putting that together with the posters in the wall, he came to the conclusion that the boy had been sword training.

And although he was childish, he still held a maturity a bit beyond his years.

The only thing he didn't have was size, he was incredibly skinny with slight developed muscles.

He lifted his head and gazed into the boys eyes. "What's your name?"

"Vergil!" He replied. "What about you?"

"Eiji."

Vergil beamed, and outstretched his hand. "Nice to meet you?"

"Likewise," Eiji said. This time grasping Vergil's hand firmly. "So, are you an aspiring swordsman Vergil?"

"Mhmm, I am." Vergil nodded enthusiastically. "I want to surpass Dracule Mihawk as the strongest swordsman. And... I want to slay a dragon!"

Tilting his head, Eiji thought about Vergil's words. 'Surpassing mihawk... he's got quite the dream.'

"How about you Eiji?" Vergil asked, with clear curiosity.

He didn't know much about Eiji, as it was his first day here. But he did speak with some of the kids before hand, and they had not said very nice things.

He created the image of a large muscular bully in his mind, and presumed that was how Eiji was like.

But seeing the real thing was different, Eiji wasn't scary, at least not to him anyway. He was just really reserved.

"Me?"

"Yep!"

What did Eiji want to do? What were his dreams? That was simple, become strong! But outside of that, there was nothing he looked forward to.

'Maybe I should develop a hobby. Hmm, how about learning the piano, I've always liked the sound the keys make when they are hit.' He thought to himself.

"I don't know..." He stated. It was a simple question to ask, but he hadn't thought about it so deeply before.

"Really? Well, what do you like to do?" Vergil asked, in hopes that Eiji might realize there had been something he overlooked.

"To be strong... ?"

Vergil wasn't too satisfied with Eijis vague answer. People could be strong in different ways. "That's it? Isn't there, like, something more specific?"

"No."

"Well, that's fine too," Vergil sighed. "We're still young so you have time to figure it out. I'm 12 years old by the way, even though I may not look like it, how old are you?"

'He's...12?'

Eiji looked on skeptically as Vergil smiled. "Seven."

"Wow, really? You're really mature for your age. Hey, y-"

-5 hours later-

Eiji sat on the rails of a roof as he let the winds play their tunes. He watched as the streets were still flooded with people who desperately tried to sell their items.

Families who enjoyed each other's company.

Who would think that this would nearly come to an end because of a single mans selfish dreams in the future.

Eiji had gotten to know Vergil a little more. They shared some similarities such as the amount of time they dedicated to their craft, and pushing beyond limits. However, their differences were clear, especially in regards to personality.

Vergil seemed to be the type who drew people in, the aura of a protagonist if you will. He was able to make people feel relaxed in his presence, the complete opposite of Eiji.

He was extremely trusting as well, whether that was a good trait or not, only time will tell.

News of crocodiles "great" feats also reached his ears. There was talk about there being a new hero in Alabasta, crocodile had begun to put his plans into action.

Eiji lightly chuckled to himself. 'If only these people knew he would be the reason for a lot of shit they would go through.'

Speaking of news, another rumor was going around town. Apparently a serial killer had decided to grace the streets of Nanohana.

They say he would sink his fangs into the skin of his victim like a vampire, and then leave them as just skin and bones when he finished.

Others say he was a large man who magically appeared whenever young girls were alone, and kill them after he had his "fun".

These ridiculous claims were the reason it was branded just a rumor. But there was no denying that there had been a slight decrease in the female population.

Fear was evident in the people of Nanohana. They moved more cautiously, and made sure they were never alone.

Even if it was a rumor, one couldn't be too sure.

Eiji eyes turned scarlet. The sharingan.

Even if he didn't do any physical work today, he would at least do this. He could increase the amount of time he used his sharingan through either increasing his stamina, or just using it a lot more, obviously.

After two hours, a little sweat accumulated on his forehead. But besides that he felt great. No stress on his eyes or body.

This was progress from three years ago when he could only keep it active for 15 minutes.

He spent another hour just admiring the sky, and left as it turned dark.

'Hm?'

As he took his time to the orphanage, he noticed a familiar figure. It hadn't even been a whole day, yet he ran into her again.

This time around, she wasn't by herself. She was with another-much larger man that gave off a dangerous aura.

Eiji neared the two, and could tell the girl wasn't in the right state of mind. She looked almost.... entranced. A bad feeling crept into his heart.

As they turned into a corner, the feeling got worse, and he was practically sure. That she was under a form of mind control by the bearded man.

To others it may have looked like a father and daughter, but seeing the lecherous expression on the mans face just before he turned the corner, gave Eiji other thought.

He could feel a headache coming.

'What kind of trash guards does she have?!'

Eiji followed close behind stealthily. He followed them through a series of turns, memorizing the directions they took in the process.

There was not a soul in sight in the dark alleyway.

"Kyaaaaa!! Help!!!!"

"Keekekeke, no one will be able to hear you."
