???'s Perspective.
"Come on, keep it moving!" One of the nearby guards yelled. Looking below from my location, a line of people were being transported through a military checkpoint.
"Think we'll pull this job off? You know...by what I mean." A voice of concern asked from behind. I wouldn't blame him for the concern in his voice, knowing how these jobs end.
"Don't worry about the job. We're already out here doing it so what's the issue?" My blunt reasoning should snap him out of it. Really, what is this guy thinking for asking an idiotic question?
"Well, it's been what I've heard from-" Cutting through him, I give back my already known answer.
"If you known the risk, then you should've backed out before coming outside. Now shut the hell up and wait for the chaos to start" His reaction was shocking but nothing hard to grasp.
Shaking my head in annoyance, I look back down at the checkpoint. Nothing has happened yet, only a matter of time though...
Looking around the destroyed neighborhood never gotten old. From what I hear from the elders, this place used to be home for a lot of people. Trying to imagine something like that is impossible to me, since I was born under this damn war. Nothing of what the elders say make sense half the time, like what the hell is "coffee"?! The only thing they miss most from this shitty world.
"H-Hey. Should do check out weapons one more time? Just to be sure?" The idiot is speaking again...great.
"No matter how many times you check, it'll always be the same. Now get ready, I've got the feeling it's about to start." I say as I pull up my cloth mask from my neck.
"How do you-" Yelling from below cut through his words. "Hurry it up, we're on a time limit!" I pull up my hood before jumping over the ledge and started climbing down the building.
Looking up, I saw the kid hesitate before following me. His movements were stiff but at least he was quick to copy my movement. Must be a copycat-type...
Jumping off from the building onto the ground, I pull out my pistol as I look to the checkpoint. The civilians were being held at gun point now by two guards, this shouldn't be a bother...
As the kid lands onto the ground, he spoke again. "Which one is it? How can we tell?" This really is his first mission as a Runner, how annoying can this get?
"I'm sure when we say "We're here to save you!" is when they'll get the message. I'll take the guard closest, you'll get the other." I take off before he could respond.
Running towards the guards with high caliber weapons is never the brightest idea. Unless you're like me then it's quite simple really. It looks almost too easy.
The closest guard notices me and takes aim. I quickly grab the front of gun and slammed my right elbow into his face. This causes him to lose his gun as he falls onto the other guard, I toss the gun onto the floor and aimed with my pistol.
"You civilians should head out. It won't be pretty, I can tell you that." My cold tone definitely gave the message across. They quickly, in fear, took off before the guards could act. After all, they are being held at gun point.
The kid catches up and aims his pistol at the guards as well. "Better late than never." I continued with my cold tone. "Not like the plan was very detailed! You took off before I could say anything!"
"Like that matters now. Hold them there, would you?" I put my pistol away before picking up the gun on the floor. "Fetch a decent price, wonder-" The sound of a click was made next to me. Before I could respond, the kid opened fired at the two guards...
"You...damn IDIOT!" I dropped the gun and turned to the kid. "What the hell was that for?!" His face grew with fear, it was plastered all over. "I-I was scared! I didn't-" I cut him off, I was royally pissed.
"You were scared?! Did you have any idea what you just did?! Fucking hell! You just killed two military guards!" He didn't seem to grasp the situation he just made...oh fuck this.
"Let me put this in words you'll understand. Everyone in this section of the city will be shot on sight, they'll search every building for us, they won't stop until they find the shooter!" As if the lightbulb was finally lit above him, he started panicking.
"What do we do now?! We have to warn the group! Oh god, we have to-" His body then dropped dead right in front of me.
With the smoking barrel of my pistol, I sigh before picking up the gun from the floor. "I never did say the shooter had to be alive, now did I? At least it'll buy us time to find a new place." And with that, I take off back into the buildings.
Entering one of the buildings, I reach the second floor and head out through the window. I wrap the gun onto my back before starting my climb on a pipe to reach the roof. From there, it was an easygoing trip from jumping onto building to building.
"Now, time for the reason of this mission. Time to find my target." Slowing down my pace, I stop to check the street below me. The target from the civilians should be nearby still. They would have seen my little act on the kid, probably hiding out so I won't see them.
And as I thought, a man is making his way through buildings from the ground level. He wasn't exactly "sneaking" his way and staying hidden. Another reason he's the target is because a military vehicle just came and aimed their turret at his building.
"God damn it. Making this more difficult than it needs to be military goons." I pull out my pistol and pull the chamber back. Down one bullet, six more to fire.
I slowly back away from the ledge, I take a deep breathe before making a full sprint and jumping off the ledge. Landing on top of the vehicle, the gunner turns around, shocked of my sudden entrance. I aimed my gun and fired a single bullet to his skull, a guard from each side of the vehicle comes out and aims their guns at me.
"Now guys. It's never nice to point things at a stranger. Granted, I just did to your now deceased comrade but c'mon, his face looked so shootable I just had to!" As reasonably I tried, they wouldn't listen and kept their aim on me.
"Fine, guess words aren't enough for you two." I quickly dropped and rolled onto the guy on my left. The other opened fire but missed completely, as for this poor guy, his gun jammed as I hit the ground. I spun my leg around, dropping the guard on his ass then turned around as the other guard came around the vehicle. I forced his gun up as he fired again, I pull the gun hard which forced his arm out to me. I pull it down onto my knee and crushed it with my right elbow, he screamed in pain which was perfect for me as I pushed my pistol into his mouth and fired a shot.
Without skipping a beat, I grab the dead guard's vest and pulled him around me to block the shots from the other guard. Pushing forward with the meat shield, I toss it aside as the guard's gun goes dry. He turns the gun around to hit me, I quickly move to my left and jumped to the side of the vehicle with my left leg only before landing a midair roundhouse kick to the guard's head. Falling hard onto the ground, the guard tries to crawl away until I placed my foot on his back.
"Sorry about all of this. If only the kid didn't kill those two guards earlier, I would've only knocked you out." And just after saying that, I shot the back of his head. Now then, time for my target.
As I make my way to the building, a guard walks outside with my target cuffed. "Ah, perfect! Thanks for bringing me my target, saved me a lot of trouble there" I say in glee.
"And you think I'll give him away? You also killed my men! Powers or not, you'll be executed here and now!" The guard aims his pistol at me, I return the gesture with my pistol.
"They weren't exactly the talking type. But I'm sure you're smarter than this, give me the guy and I'll let you go to live another day." I extend my open hand forward but the guard only pulls the target closer to him.
"I'll rather die than give you this man!" If he says so, who am I to say no? "If that's what you really want, then so be it. Not everyone challenges their bad luck charm after all." I lower my gun and started walking towards the guard.
"One more step and I'll shoot! Don't come any closer!" The guard screams his demands. "Giving me orders? You should know that's not how luck works here." As I take another step, he pulls the trigger but the gun doesn't go off. Confused with some hint of fear, he starts pulling the trigger over and over as I slowly make my way to him.
"Tsk, tsk. Luck isn't on your side here. It's as if a black cat crossed your path." His fear continues to grow with each step, then just as expected, he aims the gun at my target.
"Y-You want this suspect right?! Take another step and he's dead!" Never surprising to see the dirty tactics from a desperate man. "Oh nooo, what am I to do?" I sarcastically say for amusement.
"Drop your weapons! Then kick them towards me!" His orders was annoying but I'll play a little longer. I drop my pistol and the military gun from my back onto the floor, kicking them away.
"There, I did as you asked. Now will you give me the guy? Kind of on a tight schedule here" I say while tapping my feet, showing some of my impatience to him. "You know, since this guy is important to the both of us, I'll make the collective decision to turn him in at camp."
Seeing the annoyance in my face, the guard laughs at it. "You're really making this a game. Even after I killed your squad without even a scratch." I took a step forward but was met with the guard pressing the barrel on the target's head. "Lastly, you'll let me and the guy go without moving from that spot. I'll kill him if I see one more step." As I stared the guard down, my target gives a barely noticeable nod to me...
In my silent acceptance, he slowly pushes the guy around me back to their vehicle, making sure I don't move with the gun still next to the guy's head. As he reaches the vehicle, he opens the rear door and shoves the guy in.
Keeping his gun pointed at the guy, the guard turns to me. "Thank you for understanding, with him in our hands, we'll finally end you freaks for good." Before I could even react to what he said, his gun arm was kicked up, shooting a bullet into the sky. With my instincts kicking in, I rolled to my gun and quickly shot the guard twice, one to his chest and one to his gun arm.
The target jumps off from the vehicle and falls onto the ground as the guard grabs his leg with his remaining arm. As the target kicks the guard's face, I shot another bullet to the side of the guard's neck. In the last few seconds he had, he choked on his blood, trying to keep the target from getting.
As I made my way, I watch as the guard finally die, losing his grip on the target's leg. He kicks the arm away and tries to push away from me. "I've had a long day, I'm not going to chase you while you're on the ground. Stop fucking around-" I was cut off from a radio static inside the vehicle. Me and the target only stared at each other before I slowly opened the front door, hearing what was said.
"Failure to respond to this, we will send all district units to your location in one minute. Respond immediately"
"Oh shit..." Were the only words to escape from my mouth.
