The lantern that I picked turned out to be one with a snowman. Why snowman? I wasn't sure either, but I had just given Xia Xing Yue a snowflake-shaped hairclip, so I probably thought this was the most appropriate.
Or I could have picked a lantern with a moon on it, but I didn't know if she would like it. Why moon? Because Xia Xing Yue's name had the character moon in it. However, the lantern festival was held on a night with a full moon, its signature snack was mooncakes, and there were a lot of guys already picking lanterns with moon motifs anyway, so I didn't want to do the same thing as them. It wasn't that I wanted to stand out, but it might be difficult for Xia Xing Yue to find my lantern if it was the same as everyone else's.
