"A what now." I had to stop starting conversations in the middle of a battle, I dodged the attacks of mannequins and dolls.
I didn't know Night's ability but he seemed to be handling himself pretty well and Bolt seemed to be having no trouble at all, she fought off multiple dolls at once with her yellow lightning.
"An Astrictum, it means reforged in Latin. They were one of our biggest mistakes. We wanted to create a race of perfect warriors, so we did. We made them unable to be killed in battle, they even became stronger when they got damaged.
The problem was, they figured out that with enough damage, they'd become close to immortal."
I looked up at her. "What's the big deal ... with them becoming immortal?"
"The world has a certain, let's call it a balance, if it tips to the side of too little gods, there's no problem, now if it tips the other way, too many gods, then we have a problem, for one, the torch wouldn't be able to handle the massive amount of energy that's being purified, because that is the purpose of gods, we purify energy for the torch to use.
Once there's too much purified energy, the abilities of people would become too strong too fast, most of the time even destroying the owner. After that, the torch will be overloaded with pure energy and explode, destroying this entire universe, at least that's what Chaos told us and he is probably the only one who knows the torch's origin.
Anyways, back to the Astrictum, they started warring amongst themselves for the sole purpose of ascending, and a lot of them did. In the end, the torch started being overloaded and we did the one thing we had held off from doing, we destroyed most of the race, the rest were turned into a group of people that were given a faith that made them abstain from violence.
My guess, this kid is either aware of his heritage and rejects the faith, which I highly doubt since the Astrictum are regularly checked by Hestia, or he is a bastard child and only knows about the abilities."
It was nice to learn about history when you were fighting off multiple dolls.
Then Ana said something that shocked me even more. "Interesting, so you are a goddess right, I'm guessing Athena from the looks of it."
She could see Athena, that should be impossible, I had checked it multiple times, nobody could see Athena.
That's why my mind started going in overdrive. I linked her strange ability to be able to see my knife and fireball to be possible, seeing the spirit of the dead is only possible when you've formed a link to the soul.
Either that or you had to be dead yourself, since Ana wasn't a zombie I was thinking along the lines of her being a vampire, they had superhuman reflexes and were undead, but then I thought about the daylight, she hadn't seem bothered by it, in fact, she seemed to quite like it, even daywalkers disliked the sun.
Then I thought about what else it could be ... wait a minute. I checked my surroundings and there it was, an eye hidden next to a camera. My hunch was correct.
"You see through the eyes of the dead." She smiled.
"I'm surprised you figured it out so quickly, most go the vampire or zombie route. You know what, Bao, stop attacking him, I want to fight him." She immediately stopped.
Ana got into a fighting position but before she started she said one thing to Last. "DO NOT, interfere, you might be in charge today but you know that I know how to kill you with ease, just like we know how much you fear death."
"C'mon, you fucking bitch." After insulting Ana, he started fighting Night and Bolt.
I also got into a fighting pose and then I moved, I feinted with my left hand while I charged mana in my right but she stopped my feint and used my arm to stop my blow. If I hadn't stopped in time I would've broken my arm.
"Amusing, you really think you can surprise me? I've been collecting eyes for a while now, did you really think I wouldn't look for the eyes of a mage who could see mana?"
I should've expected that. I throw both my knives jump over her whilst she blocks them, she turns around to defend against my blows and I call my knives to me, she's now stuck between me and my lives, she's got nowhere to go, and then she ducked and I hit myself, luckily I could redirect both to my armoured arm.
I try to attack her with speed, hitting as fast as I can, she blocks it all, I try a few more tricks with my knives and each time nearly hit myself, after a while, I saw that nearly an hour had passed and I'd gotten nowhere. And that's when the shock came.
