Chereads / Chaos Incarnate: Homer's Pen / Chapter 20 - Powers

Chapter 20 - Powers

I wanted to know something really badly so I asked. "Hey Homer, why don't you move your arm."

He hadn't moved his arm even after it had been healed. "I can't, I don't know what I did but I can't move it."

"Does it hurt?" That would suck. "Nah, I can feel everything, it's like my arm is changing into a better version."

We walked to the tower, they had to go to the HQ of the order and I needed to find a place to live.

"Hey, you." The clerk looked at Homer. "Do you know what we can do for this little girl."

"If she has strong enough powers and wants you to, you can take her to the orphanage at HQ, it's a gathering of talented young … well, orphans."

"Nora, do you have powers?" He was obviously curious. "I don't know, I was tested when I was a baby but everybody knows that those tests aren't always right when you are a baby. Before you ask, yes I would like to take the test and if it's possible go to the 'HQ'."

I had my mission to complete after all. Dollmaker, I won't disappoint.

The clerk took out a basic test set and started. When he saw the results he was confused.

"I need to ask my superiors something." Then he started calling someone, talking about the test not being sufficient or something.

After 10 minutes a balding man came out of the elevator and walked towards us with excitement in his eyes.

"Hallo, mijn naam is Henk, oh ja wacht, jullie spreken engels. Hi, my name is Hank, I'm the supervisor of the tower." The guy had started out in this weird nonsensical language and then he switched to the language we were familiar with.

"I am here to take you to a testing room." Homer was surprised. "Aren't those for extremely powerful abilities?"

"Yes, but we also use them when we have no idea what we're dealing with. Some abilities are triggered not by the normal mutation but by something else. I have seen people get powers because of an ancient curse, a lab experiment gone wrong, a lab experiment goon right and let's see here, ah, right, being swallowed by a whale."

I was so confused at that moment. "You're joking about the whale, right?"

"No,I'm one hundred percent serious."

"What powers did the guy get?" I was really curious right now.

"He got something interesting, at first we thought that the only power he got was to talk to whales but then he comforted a kid by singing and it sent waves of soothing out. everyone who walked by him reported that their stress had been relieved after hearing it and it even cured depression."

"Ok, not the power I would want to have myself but that's awesome." I started to see a twinkle in his eyes. "You love this part of the job, don't you?"

"Yes, it's amazing. I can discover new abilities, did you know that I'm the top expert when it comes to discovering new abilities?"

"I did not." Whilst my very fun and interesting conversation with Hank was going on Homer and Bolt rudely interrupted us.

"We have to go collect our reward and get our stuff, we'll meet you in the testing room."

We entered an elevator that could only be used by employees, it was decorated with coral and other things I didn't know.

Bolt and Homer on the other hand entered the normal elevator which was just made of metal.

When the elevator opened I saw a really big room. "Have you ever watched Doctor Who?"

I shook my head, I had heard about it, it had been this pre age of powers popular tv series. "Why does nobody ever watch old shows or movies, it's really sad. Well it doesn't matter. Stand there and place your hand on that orb."

The moment I did the orb started cracking and Hank yelled for me to immediately take it off.

"Well at least we know that you have a ridiculous amount of power,"

The orb had been to test my 'power level', this was another reference that went way over my head.

Kirby who had been silent the entire time was looking at me like I was some kind of monster.

"Ok, so your blood has been tested and your DNA gives us … nothing. It's a mess, your genetic ability marker makes no sense."

"Have you seen something like this before?"

Hank nodded. "I have seen reports and I know of one person who has something similar. We're actually really lucky about who it is. It's Homer. I know for a fact that Homer can give himself abilities using his artefact since he had to register the uses of it in the database and he stated that he had no abilities prior to bonding with the artifact."

My mind was blown, I mean, to be able to give yourself any power you want, that's OP. Ok, I guess I saw that sometimes a boody just can't handle the ability like what happened to his arm but still, that's just too strong.

"What are you talking about?"

At that moment Homer entered.
