To learn about the present and future, you first must know the past. Luminara takes up half of the entire world, and it has two divisions. First is the House of Light. This group of people all study magics that refer to the light side of the world. The second division is the Manor of Shadows. They are the opposites of the House of Light; they study the ways of shadow and dark magic. Even though they are opposites, however, they both have a good bond with each other. At first, the two divisions had kept to themselves, and they had what was called "pure magic". This "pure magic" was the untainted magic unique to their own respective divisions.
As time passed by, more people from other divisions traded secrets or fell in love with someone from its opposite. The "pure magic" grew more diluted, and therefore children known as the "demi-mages" were born. They had immense power, with the ability to be able to use both magics. Now that you're all caught up, let's get back to the story.
March 15, 2041
In the middle of the world, The Academy of Luminara splits the two Divisions in half, dividing the House of Light as 1/4 of the world and the Manor of Shadows as another 1/4. Each year, children at the age of 10 would enter the school, while being followed by the rest of their respective family; the Light Family or the Shadow Family. In the various thousands of Academy Halls, the two Families filed in, and the 8 Family Heads all stood in front of each other, shook hands, and returned to their seats.
Suddenly, three stunningly beautiful ladies walked out of a spatial tear and onto a triangle platform. The platform rose up, attracting the attention of both the children as well as the adults.
"Family Heads! If your attention isn't already up here, it should be now. We will now begin the 'Entrance Exam'.", the lady in the middle said.
The lady on the left jumped down from the 3-meter-high platform and called, "Come on, kids, let's go do something fun!"
Immediately, the kids jumped up and ran towards the lady, following her until they reached a black orb. As soon as the lady touched it, however, a stream of colors spread from her hand to the orb, changing the orb into a vibrantly colored sphere of light.
"Now, all you have to do is hold your hand above the orb and swing it down right on the top. You can do that, right kiddos?", the lady instructed. The kids nodded vigorously. Each kid stepped up and swung their hands downward.
"Rank 100, Shadow Tier!" the orb said for each of the children from the Shadow Family while the orb said, "Rank 100, Light Tier!" for all the Light Family. Finally, a child with black and white hair stepped up onto the podium, after being pulled there.
The child glared at the two ladies who pulled him up there and threw their hands off of him.
The lady on the right, the shortest, said, "This child was found in the Death Plains. According to the Law of the Lord, one of the Factions may inherit this child."
This "child" was Alex, after being Reincarnated. I lifted my head up and looked straight into the eyes of the 1st Family Head of the Shadow Family. There was recognition in Alex's gaze as the two stared at each other for a time. Before I looked away, there was a wild grin on my face. The First Family Head shouted, "The Shadow Family will take him!"
A multitude of heads turned towards the First Family Head's direction with gazes of shock, but it was too late.
"Then, the child shall join the Shadow Family. " The lady answered. "What's your name kid?" she murmured to Alex.
"My name's Alex. Alex Cyatri," I replied. I winked at the lady and walked backward off the 50-meter-tall platform. Suddenly, the audience below gasped. Sprouting from Alex's back were two magnificent wings, one black, and one white wing. He hurtled towards the 1st Family Head and came to an abrupt stop right in front of him, landing on his feet in front of the Family Head. "Thanks for choosing me, old man. I won't disappoint." I said. My wings abruptly disappeared as he walked to the back of the crowd in the Shadow Family.
The 1st Head looked at me curiously before returning his attention to the ladies. They smiled knowingly and waved their hands at the space in front of them. Immediately, a large spatial tear appeared stretching down to hover just above the floor where the two Families were standing.
"Inside this spatial tear, there is equipment for you to use during the second part of the Entrance Exam. Depending on the Rating that you get for completing the Exam, rewards and punishment will be distributed accordingly. Please line up in two lines and walk through one at a time. Give the person in front of you 5 seconds before you step into the spatial rift.", said the lady in the middle.
Suddenly, they faded away into a grey mist. The adults also faded away, leaving only the new students in the Academy. Immediately, the kids all shot wary looks at Alex, trying to gauge his abilities and determine whether or not they should be friends with him.
Alex, however, was already used to this. In his previous life, this kind of situation had happened. However, back then, he was a timid, weak child. This time, he intended to change this fact. Alex also gauged all of the kids and walked through the crowd casually. Suddenly, he made a hard left and dashed at a specific kid, who was using a Rank 98 ability, Ranger's Scout to see Alex's capabilities.
This kid's name was Augustus, and he was in the Light Family. His eyes widened in shock, and he tried to run away, but it was too late. Alex grabbed him by his collar and smirked. He lifted Augustus into the air effortlessly and murmured, "If I detect, even a HINT, of you using your ability on me one more time, you'll be the first one dead in the trials. I'm not scared of any consequences. The reputation of the Academy precedes itself; the only rule is survival of the fittest. And all you have to do is prove your strength. Your deaths mean nothing to them. Understand?"
Alex dropped him and left him on his knees looking at his domineering figure. Although I was still a kid, they all knew that I would be our grade's leader. I strode towards the spatial tear. Unconsciously, all of the students made way for me, as if I were a king walking towards my throne. As I made my way toward the spatial tear, students started walking toward the spatial tear as well. I looked back and noticed a lot of familiar faces. I resolved myself as these were my closest friends from the past. This time, I wouldn't be letting them die any time soon.
'Well, this should be interesting.' Alex thought as he walked through the spatial tear.
