Chereads / Murder At Dark / Chapter 5 - ABEL

Chapter 5 - ABEL

Jason and Sera drove back to the dock brainstorming on their session with Mr. Grey. He may have been the murderer but something fishy is going on, he might be their lead to whoever took that young lady's life, Sera thought.

"What do you make out of Daniels meeting with Don's wife, outside town?" Sera asked Jason.

"Pretty fishy, I mean both reside here in Tampa, why go all the way to Citrus Park to meet?" Jason replied confused too.

"Come on Jason, do they call you the Lion's Den for nothing?" Sera teased him.

She had always been a great judge of character, she knew the right way to relate with colleagues even on a first day. She had been very official with Cynthia the snob, she barely talked about anything outside the job with Joe and with frank if was a bestie kind of interaction even though it took a long time to build that bond. But with the tall handsome guy beside her, she was already teasing and betting with him. She had reminded herself a few times to tuck it in a little, but she just loosened up out of reflex afterwards.

"Why are you smiling?" Jason asked and distracted her thoughts. "No way, you think they are hitting it off?" Jason realized where Sera was leading him to.

"It's a hunch but it couldn't be wrong too." She answered smiling at him as she pulled over at the same spot they had driving out from.

"Let me guess, they found an ID." Jason said before reaching for the door lock.

"Are you trying to bag free lunch for the rest of the week Mr. Den? Sera replied with an official tone and a straight face.

"Would that be too much for you to handle." Jason ask and got of the car. He waited for Sera to come over before they both walked towards the crime scene with the inscription on the yellow tape, 'Police. Keep Off!

Don listened as Rahim brought him up to speed, he liked to take in details so he doesn't miss a thing. He sipped from his glass of Vodka and kept his eyes pin on nothing in particular as he held the phone to his ear.

"What you are trying to say is that, we don't need to follow her because she would tell us where she is by herself?" Don asked bewildered.

"Yes. He already copied the encoding that synchronizes with the OS of her device, so once you give me the go ahead we know her location via GPS and we hear all her conversations." Rahim explained.

"Do it." Don gave his permission and gulped what was left of vodka in his glass.

"Copy that Boss." Rahim said

"I don't want any slip ups this time, I want to know where she is and what she is doing. Locate the bastard!" Don ordered and dropped the call.

Rita was a thorn is his flesh, he has given her everything she desired but she had returned his benevolence to unfaithfulness. He was too kind to her, maybe because he wanted to give to her all he could not give his Cleo. How could she, he thought. He never believed it at first, he wanted to give her a benefit of doubt but after the incident of last night he was sure.

If only he has gotten a lead to where his daughter was hiding and living like a common person, he wouldn't have bordered this much. He needs to find her and talk her into accepting all that he has as documented in his will.

Don poured himself more vodka and downed it with one gulp, he stared at the empty glass in his hand. "If you don't kill me, nothing will." He said to the empty glass.

Abel stare at his phone wondering what else to do. He could walk down to Ocean View Restaurant to find out why Dora wasn't taking his call. He could apologize if he had offended her unknowingly, he thought.

He wasn't sure he wanted to do that, she might have forgotten her phone at home and could not go back to get it, but why did she not say hi to him?

Last night he had gone to get drugs for his sick mother and missed seeing her walk pass, could it be the reason she was angry? She could be feeling a thing for him too, he thought.

Abel began to hurry up with arranging the stalk of books on his desk and returning them back to their rightful places on the shelf. He was determined to make that walk to Ocean View Restaurant, he would have to tell her what he feels for her.

"Someone called the line that is how we where we were able to locate it." Inspector Fin explained.

"This is quite far from the crime scene, it couldn't have fallen from her grip when she was hit." Sera added.

"Yes, you are right from the angle she fell and the location of the phone it is obvious someone was trying to throw it into the water." Jason said turning to look at other wider range. "Have you searched the surrounding outside the initial scope?" Jason asked spreading his hands to emphasize.

"Yes we have, the phone is also clean. We had forensic dust it for prints, there was none." Inspector Fin added.

"Premeditated, what do you think?" Sera asked Jason.

"Obviously, whoever killed her knew what he was doing. From the sight of murder to the careful elimination of evidence. We need to search the water for anything that could have been used as a weapon to hit her?" Jason briefed Inspector Fin who nodded and walked away.

Jason stared at the phone inside the evidence bag, it was showing a red signal meaning the battery was almost out.

"Let's find out who called her, this is our chance to know our dead." Jason said and got the phone out and clicked on the recent calls he saw a registered number 'AB'.

"This is even easier than I thought." Jason said out loud.

"What is wrong?" Sera asked coming close to see what made Jason say that.

"She saved a number with AB, doesn't it make it easier?" Jason said sarcastically

"Abigail?" Sera asked smiling.

"We will know if the phone doesn't die on us." Jason said

Jason first dialed his own number, he memorized the number on his screen then he used his own phone to call IT.

"Hi, Josh I need your help, I want to make a call with this number help trace the location of the receiver."

He called out the dead girl phone number and ended the call. He then used the dead girl's phone to call AB and turned on the speaker. The phone only rang once and a very excited voice sounded from the other end.

"Hi Dora, I have trying to reach you. I didn't see you pass by this morning on your way to work and I got worried. I was supposed to come check you out at work to know you are ok, but I had to finish up placing the new books that came in this morning." The voice from the other end just kept talking and not even Jason or Sera interrupted.

They need a few seconds for Josh to triangulate the call and pin the location where the call was received. Jason received text and when he checked it he nodded at Sera.

"Hi AB, this is Detective Sera." She interrupted the excited guy. "Your friend met with an accident and we are trying to contact her family. Could you remain at Samson Book Store we are on our way to ask you a few questions about Dora?" Sera said and there was a long pause before the voice responded again.

"Oh Shit! An accident?" AB asked.

"Yes AB we need your help and we are just around the corner stay put, ok?" Sera said and Jason punched the end button.
