Scott woke up late in the morning and immediately ate some breakfast before heading to Amara's den to check on Mitzi. Jacob wandered out of the den and Scott went in behind him. When he went in, Amara was standing by a conscious Mitzi who looked a bit confused and in pain.
"Mitzi!" Scott cried, and ran over to her.
"Mitzi you're awake!" He said, smiling. Mitzi smiled back weakly and turned back to Amara to answer a question.
"Yeah I feel fine except for my leg. What happened to it? Adrien didn't let me see." Amara froze,
"Well-uh...I-I'll let Scott tell you." She stuttered and went over to her stash of medical supplies. Scott figured she was avoiding telling Mitzi what happened because of what happened last night. He'd heard her scream but went back to sleep. Mitzi was tracing the bandage on her knee with her finger waiting for Scott to explain.
"During the battle some human officers came armed with guns. Those are like, how to explain, sticks that shoot round balls of metal at its target at really fast speeds. Well they hit you in the knee with one and it injured your knee really bad." Scott shook away the thought that she might not be able to walk right again and left the medical stuff to Amara. Mitzi cocked her head in confusion,
"What happened after that? I remember small bits and pieces. You guys stood around me and...and...OH!" Her eyes widened and she blushed. Scott just smiled,
"Yeah I remember now…" She said. Amara came walking back over and smiled a bit at their red faces.
"Mitzi if you're up to it do you think you could stand a little, Scott can help." Amara purred. Mitzi nodded her head and carefully stung her legs over the bed. She yelped when she bent her injured leg so she kept it straight. Scott slid his arm under hers and helped her up. After a few seconds Mitzi was standing upright on her uninjured leg. Testing her other leg by putting it on the ground and putting a little bit of pressure on it looked like it hurt.
"Just what I thought…" Amara muttered to herself and used a bit of healing magic on Mitzi's leg.
"Try again." And Mitzi followed Amara's order, only to wince again at the pain in her knee.
"Help her sit back down Scott." Amara directed. Once Mitzi was sitting back on the makeshift bed Amara told them her findings.
"I don't think my healing magic can heal an injury I have no idea how to treat. I think...I think that you might not be able t-to walk normally anymore." Amara said, slumped down with defeat. Mitzi's tail flicked with nervousness,
"Wait so y-you're saying, I won't be able to walk like I used to. I'll have a limp?!" Amara nodded and stared at the floor,
"I'm sorry Mit. I did all I could." Mitzi nodded in understanding,
"I know I'm not blaming you, it's just…" She looked at her hands folded in her lap,
"...hard to process." She finished. Scott sat next to her on the root and put his arm around her shoulders. Mitzi leaned her head on him and sat in silence.
"I'll let you guys be alone for a bit." Amara said, smiling sadly. The two lovers sat in silence for a few minutes until Mitzi spoke up.
"I can't believe I'll have a limp for the rest of my life…" Mitzi muttered. Scott rubbed her back reassuringly. He tried to think of something to say that would lift her spirits, the only thing that came to mind was a movie that his parents had him and his sister watch a few years back. Scott had memorized the song because he thought it'd been cute. Hey, maybe Mitzi liked to sing too? He took in a breath and started to sing,
"No more talk of darkness, Forget these wide-eyed fears, I'm here, nothing can harm you, My words will warm and calm you…" Mitzi looked up from her hands with a look of confusion which changed when Scott kept singing.
"Let me be your freedom, Let daylight dry your tears, I'm here, with you, beside you, To guard you and to guide you…" He stopped, the next part was the girl's lines but he didn't know if Mitzi knew the song.
"Say you love me every waking moment, Turn my head with talk of summertime, Say you need me with you now and always, Promise me that all you say is true, That's all I ask of you…" Mitzi sang in a beautiful voice. Scott smiled widely and continued the song,
"Let me be your shelter, Let me be your light, You're safe, no one will find you, Your fears are far behind you…" Mitzi was smiling now too,
"All I want is freedom, A world with no more night, And you, always beside me, To hold me and to hide me…" She sang.
"Then say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime, Let me lead you from your solitude, Say you need me with you here, beside you, Anywhere you go, let me go too, Love me, that's all I ask of you…" He waited for Mitzi to sing her line,
"Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime, Say the word and I will follow you, Share each day with me, each night, each morning, Say you love me…" She held the last note and Scott sang his part,
"You know I do…" He looked into her eyes and they finished up the song now singing together,
"Love me, that's all I ask of you, Anywhere you go, let me go too, Love me, that's all I ask of you." Mitzi was smiling as big as her mouth would let her.
"Scott how did you know that was my favorite song?" She asked. Scott shrugged,
"I didn't, I just remembered the song and thought if I sang to you you'd feel better?" He said. Mitzi gave him a big hug,
"Thank you Scott. That means a lot right now." She said, still clinging to him. Scott hugged her back.
"I will help you try and get better, okay. Anything you need just ask." Scott said, chin resting on top of Mitzi's head.
"Okay." She whispered.
