Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Intelligence in the forest.

Part 1

The night sky looked beautiful as always. The far afar glowing stars illuminated the night sky. It was not a full moon, it was a half-moon. It was green, greener than a goblin's skin, greener than a bush of berries

The green moon illuminated the night sky, creating beautiful scenery.

The forest full of thick trees looked eerily creepy under that light. At the edge of the forest, where trees are few and small, a crimson red crack opened in space. The crimson aperture scorched everything within a meter. Leaving behind black ash.

Out of that opening, out came a tall shadowy figure, wearing a simple gray cloak, a bit torn. As the face of the figure was hidden from sight because of the hood, one had to guess whether the figure was a human or someone of another race.

The figure took out something that looked like a small electronic device and set it up on the ground.

It looked like a blender, a small one. The top of the device emitted a slight humming sound and started spinning at an unimaginable rate.

The figure took out something that can only be described as a holographic projector. Unknown numbers and letters were being projected and they constantly changed. Until it stopped at one point.

Finally, the hooded figure spoke. The voice was a male one.

'Finally, found one. This world matches the most with our world. But the variables are a huge headache.'

``We've got the data, 13. We can't immediately start another portal. The machine needs time to stabilize, we suggest you explore the surroundings, try looking for intelligent life.'

A feminine, yet mechanical voice came out of the headpiece of the man.

'Roger,' the man replied

Part 2

After ending the call using my communication module I take a look at my surroundings.

From the looks of it, I'm on a cliff, at a forest's edge. The dark forest full of dark brown tall trees resides behind me.

'They sure transported me to a weird place, huh,' I mutter while approaching the dark brooding forest.

I can smell the scent of grass and wet wind wafting into my nose and down my throat. It had rained somewhere close to this place.

After I enter the forest, the darkness grows. The minimum amount of light rays coming out from the gaps between leaves only further increases the darkness. Yet it feels beautiful all the same.

It doesn't take long before my eyesight gets used to the darkness. I could sense that the forest was big and also dangerous.

As I keep walking the thick smell of blood attacks my nose.

'Something's not right.'

I follow the smell and it leads me to a small open space, within the forest. A small humanoid creature was hunching upon the corpse of a female.

As if it's sensing my presence, it turns towards me. Only then, I get a clear view of the thing.

The creature in front of me is the height of a ten-year-old kid but had moldy skin with a mix of green and gray.

It has a small skull, bloodshot eyes, as if they are popping out of its sockets, it has a crooked nose, a toothy mouth. It is munching on what seemed to be guts.

It smiles towards me as if trying to assure me that it means no harm. But the bloody mouth and the mangled corpse beside it are more than enough to know the creature's true intentions.

It's hungry.

It was saying something that I could not understand, it's language is a mix of grunts and inaudible words.

'Should I capture it and take it back alive?' I think.

Before, I could visualize my plan anymore the 'Thing' in front of me took out a club from under the corpse and jumped at me, bellowing.

Despite looking small it's fast. Certainly faster than a normal human. The club was aimed at my head.

Before it can hurt me I dodged out of the way.

Right after the dodge, I take a tactical knife out of my belt sheath and slash towards the creature in front of me, the diagonal slash directly cut off the head of the creature in front of me.

A pity. I wanted to capture it alive, but sadly I killed it.

It was already dark at night, and due to the travel, I needed to rest. I pour kerosine on the dead bodies in front of me and started burning them.

I took refuge on the strong branch of the tree, right above the spot of the fire. Keeping my five senses at maximum I drift off to sleep.
