Kasuyi was on a rampage. After the two initial blasts of fireballs, he had begun casting a flurry of other spells, bombarding the fortress, and filling the dark night with a brilliant display of light.
The mages taking refuge within the fortress weren't vegetables at all. For each of them to have been able to get stationed at this fort, then that meant they must surely be competent at the least.
Spells of all kinds, ice spears, fireballs, boulders of earth, whips of lightning and wind, and so many other kinds of spells lashed out at the mountain that Kasuyi was situated on top, only to just bounce off or be dispelled without any results when met with the solid barrier that was wrapped around Kasuyi.
The mages within the fortress watched this display of might, despair already forming into a thick feeling at the bottom of their bellies. Just as their morale was beginning to drop, a massive flare of magical energy erupted from behind their stations.
"Lord Quint!" The mages' morale was immediately boosted as the only Lord Class mage that was assigned to this fortress made his presence known. The powerful mage immediately took off from the defensive line of the fort, riding on the back of some flying beast. Even the aura that was being released from the beast was enough to give anyone a fright. It constantly gave off an almost tangible aura, showing off its strength that was in the Pseudo-Lord Class stage.
The two of them rocketed forward in a wild charge to meet Kasuyi in a battle of might and magic.
"Humph! A weak Grandmaster Class mage? How dare such an ant try to attack Fort Wildermont?! Relying on some strong artifacts won't be enough to save you from my wrath!" He spoke to himself as he began charging an attack.
Bright yellow lightning danced over his body and that of his mount, seeming to also be the elemental affinity of the beast.
"Taste my thunder!" Quint roared as he sent dazzling bolts of lightning crashing down at Kasuyi. The lightning surged forwards, striking the mountain and exploding in a cacophony of light and fire. Indeed, h he was a Lord Class mage. Every single attack of his was overwhelmingly powerful.
When the light died down, Quint was shocked to see that the barrier still stood firm, not even showing the slightest hint of a crack on its transparent surface. Instead, the mage behind it erupted into laughter.
"Powerful, powerful indeed! It seems the Imperial Army has truly raised up some exceptional individuals during my absence. As expected of my dearest disciples!" Kasuyi laughed, tapping the butt of his staff onto the hard ground, and causing himself to levitate. He let himself float up to the level where Quint and his mount hovered above the ground, tendrils of lightning dancing all around their bodies.
"What?!" Quint couldn't believe his eyes. Normally, the power an artifact released was scaled according to how strong the current user was. This applied to every artifact, no matter how strong it was, or who crafted it. Under normal circumstances, that full powered attack from him should have been enough to wipe out the mage's shield entirely, at least leaving him on the brink of death if he was lucky enough. A mere Grandmaster Class mage shouldn't have been able to come out of that unscathed.
Unable to accept the fact that his attack failed, he channeled his mana for another attack.
"Lightning Spear!" All the lightning around him condensed into an extremely concentrated spear of light that was wrapped in tendrils of lightning. The spear spun and shot forward, reaching Kasuyi in the blink of an eye.
With a smile, Kasuyi simply lifted his hand, a dark, dense fog of magical energy wrapping around it.
BOOM!
Light spread with a deafening explosion, temporarily blinding everyone who was gazing upon the scene. The light was so bright that it the night looked as though it was broad daylight!
When the light died down, the scene before Quint shocked him greatly. Kasuyi remained in place, levitating with a calm smile. In his right had was a spear, but instead of the bright spear of light, this one was pitch black, almost melding seamlessly with the backdrop of night.
"Dark Corruption." Kasuyi called out calmly. This spell was able to entirely corrupt anything, turning its affinity, or energy dark. It was a high level Dark Magic spell that one could only learn at the King Class when one had gained complete understanding of Dark Magic.
"K-King Class?! Impossible!" Quint immediately charged up another attack. Just before he could concentrate his magic into a proper spell, his eyes suddenly lost their focus, his eyes falling to his sides limply, and the mana he had gathered dispersing into their surrounding air.
His body slumped weakly onto the back of his mount, which cried out in concern for its master's health. It had suddenly felt the mental bond they shared going silent, letting it know that something was wrong.
"Mind Seal." Yet another spell was cast by Kasuyi. The spell was quite direct, doing exactly what its name clued people on in. It sealed off Quint's mind in a mental maze, leaving his body entirely defenseless.
Now that the Lord Class mage was taken care of, Kasuyi once again turned his attention to the fortress in the distance. His eyes gleamed darkly.
As all this was happening, Rajaa just silently sat on Kasuyi's shoulder and observed the whole situation. Truth be told, he was bored. For the past century, he had been left with nothing to do. What he wanted right now was to go on a rampage somewhere, letting the world know of his power once again. Sadly, that wasn't going to be happening any time soon, as Kasuyi wanted a travelling companion as he went about on his conquest for revenge.
"Let's end this, shall we?"
Kasuyi propped up the spear of darkness in his hand. The ambient mana levels in the surrounding air immediately spike, the space around him twisting visibly to the naked eye.
"Goodbye." He let the spear rocket through the air, spiraling toward the dark fortress in the distance.
With an impossibly large explosion of flames and darkness, Fort Wildermont was no more.
