Chapter 34 - Chapter Thirty Four

Spots of light appeared in the darkness enveloping Kai's mind. As he slowly regained his consciousness, the first thing he became aware of was the constant dull pain pounding through his skull.

"...What happened...?" He didn't dare open his eyes just in case the place he was in was to bright. From what he could last recall, he had been in the middle of... Lord Kasuyi's revival! Kai jumped up from his bed, staggering slightly as a wave of pain assaulted him. He held his head and tried to get his bearings as he looked around. He was in a fairly luxurious room. A large king sized bed was right behind him, situated by the wall, just opposite a pair of huge double doors. To the left was a massive floor-to-ceiling window, with a pair of small wooden double doors in the center of it. The doors led to a balcony that looked down below. To his right was a small wooden door that was the same dark brown as the rest of the room.

He hesitantly walked out to the balcony through the open doors while massaging his aching head. When he stepped outside, a crisp, cool breeze blew by, chilling his face. In the corner, he noticed a dark haired man sitting down on a small lawn chair while sipping on a cup of some brew.

"I see you're finally awake." The man brought his hand holding the cup down. A small stool made of stone suddenly grew out from the balcony. He placed the cup on it before standing up gingerly and turning around. "It's nice to see you from a different perspective, Kai." He smiled warmly.

As Kai stared at the man, he could feel a vague connection to him. Unconsciously, he brought his hand up to rub his chest, just over where his heart was.

"You feel it too?" The man asked, turning to look at the starry sky. Kai nodded absently as he also turned his head upwards to look at the sky.

"Who are you?" Kai asked, turning to look back at the dark haired man with curious eyes. The man just smiled once again before shaking his head.

"You will find out soon enough..." With that said, a swirl of darkness appeared at the man's feet, swallowing him whole in a moment. Before Kai could react, he was already gone.

Kai just stared dumbfounded for a few moments before walking up to the railing of the balcony to take a look below. He could hear the faint sounds of activity from up on the balcony. He carefully peered over the edge, looking down below.

A burst of light was what greeted his sights. Countless bright lights lit up the streets down below. People could be seen in the distance, moving through the slightly crowded walkways. Stalls lined both sides of the walkway, their owners were shouting into the night air and interested customers were stopping by whatever stall caught their eye.

"A beautiful sight, eh?" A voice sounded behind him.

"W-what?!" Kai stumbled, almost falling off the balcony. A strong hand gripped the back of his shirt and tugged him back. He turned back to meet the cool gaze of Liothaire. The Dark Magic user stood silently behind the younger boy, staring off into the distance.

"Oh... uh, yeah. It is kind of beautiful." Kai turned his gaze back out into the bustling city.

"Your friends were worried. I suppose I didn't think of how they would react when I took you. I was just too eager to revive Lord Kasuyi." Liothaire closed his eyes, an apologetic look plastered across his face.

"How are they? Suzy and Ryan?"

"The two love birds are okay. They were quite worried about you, but I came up with a plausible excuse to your disappearance. After a bit of convincing, they finally let me go. Suzan is quite the nagger." A small smirk could be seen on Liothaire's lips.

Kai nodded before turning back out to look at the scenery. His eyes strayed towards the starry night, only to meet a dark, rocky ceiling. His eyes widened in surprise. He had clearly seen stars back when the dark haired man was here.

'That's right! That man!' A light bulb went off in Kai's head. He turned to Liothaire who had walked over to take a seat on the small lawn chair in the corner. The Mage was holding up the cup to take a sip of what was inside it.

"Liothaire, there was a man here a few minutes before you came in. Dark hair, blue eyes..." Kai began to describe the man's appearance as best as he could to Liothaire. The Dark Magic user nodded along for a few beats before abruptly freezing.

"You're saying he drank from this cup, and he sat in this chair..." Liothaire's face paled rapidly as Kai nodded with each sentence. His head dropped and he gently dropped the cup back on the stone stool. He then got up and walked out of the room, an Aura of glumness oozing from him. Kai could only watch, dumbfounded at what was happening.
