Chapter 13 - Chapter Thirteen

The white fog snaked its way through the camp, slipping into tents. Although the fog was able to render most soldiers defenseless, the few Master and Grandmaster class Wizards among the group of travelers were able to defend themselves against it to some extent.

They rushed out of their tents to meet the hidden foe, some of them branching off to help their weaker comrades while the others checked on the villagers that had gotten through the Selection test.

A large clump of white fog gathered at Kai's feet. He stared at it with wariness. The fog swirled and swayed, giving it the illusion of being alive. Try as it might, the Divine Mage System was unable to glean any information from it. Every line of information was filled with question marks.

Suddenly, the mass of white fog shot up to a height of nearly 2 meters, taking on the vague outline of a human physique, although it was a bit too tall for that of a human. That figure then morphed, from a white fog to a robed figure. The unknown figure wore a hood to obscure their face. The darkness beneath the hood seemed to swallow all the light that sought to peer into it.

After the fog had transformed into what it currently was, the Divine Mage System could finally get a reading off it.

Even with the partial transformation of the being in front of him, the Divine Mage System was still unable to run a deep scan of it.

Law looked around the tent slowly, as though scanning through all the people currently shivering in fear. His eyes then stopped as it ran over Kai, noticing the higher fluctuations of magical energy flowing through him.

Before Law could make a move, a frightening presence erupted in the middle of the encampment. That presence seemed to disappear and reappear right outside the tent, too fast for ordinary minds to comprehend.

Law sunk back into the fog, slipping out of the tent. He slithered his way to the area where Fay had hidden herself.

'We have a problem, Gonzuk. There's a Lord class combatant.' Law relayed the message calmly while the restraint spell he had used on the soldiers faded away.

'Hmm. Fay, use a teleport rune to get me there faster.' The Titan's voice remained indifferent as he replied, as though the problem Law and Fay had encountered was barely anything that could phase him.

With a low hum, Fay did as she was told, pulling out a sack that contained some scrolls. She spread a couple of the scrolls out, placing a few rune stones around them. They shone with a dim purple glow, pulsating in the darkness. A few inches above the scrolls, a tear in the fabric of space appeared. With each pulse of magical energy from the rune stones, it grew in size. Within the span of a few seconds, it had managed to reach the height of three meters. From within it, the Titan, Gonzuk, stepped out.

On his back hung a greatsword. From within his robe, his outstretched hand gripped onto the handle, ready for battle.

"Where is it?" Gonzuk got straight to the point. Just as he finished his sentence, a flash of bright light caught the corner of his eye. He turned his head the other way, just barely dodging a passing of a clawed hand.

Behind that clawed hand was High General Rudolf. With a roar, he swung his other gauntlet clad fist at Gonzuk. He could feel the waves of magical energy radiating off his foes, and he knew he had no time to spare in dealing with them.

Gonzuk spared no time either. With a speed too fast for his hulking body, he drew his sword, parrying Rudolf's strike. With sparks and sounds of metal clashing, their blows struck each other's weapons repeatedly, unable to get past their defenses. Unlike what their frames suggested, they were very agile beings.

The earth was split and torn asunder, casting soil and dust in the air. Trees were uprooted and rocks were thrown around. The soldiers that had regained their consciousness were hurriedly packing up their essentials, rushing the villagers into the wagons. The few Master and Grandmaster Mages and Martial Artists rushed to the scene of the battle to try and assist Rudolf in whatever way they could.

Law and Fay weren't sitting idle either. Although their abilities weren't intended for battle, they were excellent at support.

White fog clouded the visions of everyone below Lord class. Those at the Grandmaster class were barely able to see twenty feet ahead of them. Soft wind whispered in the ears of every Imperial soldier, twisting their minds and making them see all sorts of horrors.

With a brutal tug, Law drew the dazed soldiers into the depths of his fog, which seemed to lead to an endless abyss of suffering.

The villagers could only watch from the camp as clashes of battle and screams of soldiers rang out, drowning out the night.
