Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 - Nice Hideout

Before they're ten minutes down the road Alex has fallen asleep. She knows she's not in a good situation, but couldn't stop herself from drifting off. The anxiety attack really took it out of her.

Eugene has glanced over a couple of times to check on her. Finally arriving at her house he looks around.

Her house was given to her by her aunt. It was a reasonably sized hunting cabin in the middle of the woods. Three bedrooms, two bathroom cabin. Alex's bedroom was located upstairs, and had a connected bathroom. The two other rooms where downstairs and had to share a restroom.

Eugene got out of the car and strolled on over to the front door. He stops for a moment and examines the door, before attempting to open it. He roles his eyes before lifting up the welcome mat. Just where he assumed it would be, the extra key.

He unlocks the door and allows himself into the house; taking a few minutes to explore. He locates what he assumes to be her room, and then heads back outside to fetch sleeping beauty.

Eugene lays Alex down, on her bed, and covers her with a blanket. Its about 10:50 when Alex finally opens her eyes again.

Alex wakes up in her room thinking that the entire ordeal was just a strange dream. To be honest, with everything that happened, and how it all went down, would you blame her. Alex just assumes that she got to engulfed in one of her fictional novels, and had a healthy does of fantasy while asleep.

Sitting up in her bed, waiting for her eyes to remember that they have twenty/twenty vision, she stairs at the clock. Finally the fogginess clears and she can read the clock. "10:52" she says in a whispering tone. Continuing to think out loud "When in the world did I drift off?" She stretches her arms and runs one hand threw her hair.

'Why did I fall asleep so early?' She thinks to herself. She roles out of bed and walks to her bathroom. Looking in the mirror she's surprised to see herself fully dressed and with some nice raccoon eyes to add.

Alex gets in the shower to clean herself up. After she's all done she dries off and hangs up her towel. Walking out of her bathroom and to her dresser, she hears a crash come from downstairs. Similar to a glass cup breaking into a million pieces, as it hits the polished concrete floor.

Alex is startled but quickly calms down, remembering something similar occred last week. Her cat, Rue, loves to knock things off the counter. She sighs and pinches her brow together, pops on an oversized shirt and some underwear and walks out of her room.

"Rue! Better not have cut your self like last time." She announces expecting no response. She makes it down stairs and circles the corner into the kitchen. Finding the broken glass and thankfully no blood. "Gosh dang it Rue." She says in a whispered tone, while grabbing a brush and dust pan.

"I don't know who Rue is, but that was my bad." A voice coming from behind her claims. Alex drops what's in her hands, turns around quickly, and stands up.

Eugene, standing at 6'4, needs no help being intimidating. Especially sence Alex is only around 5'6 maybe 5'7.

Alex begins to step back, but before she could Eugene grabs Alex's rist and yanks her towards him. Alex crashes face first into Eugene's chest. Then looks up in fear. "Careful now, almost slit your foot on the glass there." Eugene says while staring into Alex's fear filled eyes.

Alex's yanks her risk out of Eugene's hold and pushes him back. Only making him stumble back, two steps, into the counter behind him. "That's not a very nice way to treat your guests. What ever happened to that brave, confident girl in the parking lot?" He smirked.

Alex reaches over to a drawer and pulls out a knife. Pointing it at Eugene she replies "She woke up."

Focused on the knife Eugene stands up straight saying "I can see that." Before launching himself towards Alex. Alex manages to graze his cheek before he has total control of the situation again. Knocking her to the floor and holding her hands be hind her back. "Dang Alice, can't believe you were able to get me." Holding both Alex's hand in his right, Eugene grabs the knife and puts it on the counter.

"Alex." She corrects.

Eugene uses his now free hand to hold her head down while he whispers in her ear. "Sorry didn't catch that."

"My name is Alex, not Alice." Alex says with gritted teeth.

Sill sitting on top of her he straightens up, and places the hand that was on Alex's head on his thigh. "Tomato, Tomoto. Does it really matter what I call you?"

"I'd prefer my name. Eugene." She states.

"Oh good, you where conscious when we were in the car. Now that you brought that up, you know sence your awake and talking. I was wondering what happened to you?"

"Other than being terrified out of my mind and kidnapped nothing much." Alex says with sarcasm.

Ignoring the sarcasm Eugene replies "No, no, not that. And I mean could you really call it kidnapping? We went to your place. I mean your blackout, unresponsive state."

"Ever heard of a panic attack? Like I said, I was terrified."

Not quite satisfied with that answer but willing to roll with it Eugene keeps talking. "Huh. Nice Hideout by the way." He says while looking around.

"Yah, welcome. Could you get off me." Alex says fed up.

"There's the girl I met in the parking lot!" Eugene says with excitement. Then lowers his mouth down, close to her ear again, and with a lower tone utters "Why would I want to get off you, I rather like the position."

Alex quickly knocks her head back and manages to bust his lip. He leans back in shock, and this gives Alex just enough time to wiggle out and stand up. By the time she's on her feet again Eugene already has the knife pointed her throat. She looks at the knife and back at Eugene, who is now wiping his bloody lip with his white sleeve.

Alex's steps forward into the knife, to were her throat is now touching the tip of the blade. Alex smiles and Eugene's eyes widen. Taking the knife away and placing it by his side.

"I should bring this up in therapy." Alex mentions to herself.

Eugene slightly tilts his head "That you helped a mental patient escape, and it went horribly wrong?"

She waves her hand and shakes her head "No, not that." Then gestures at the knife in Eugene hand. "The fact I was unfazed by a knife being shoved in my face."

Looking Alex up and down "Or maybe bring up the fact your so comfortable showing so much skin. Especially when we've just met." Eugene smirks.

Alex looks down. "Ah, shi..." Looking back at Eugene. "F*ck you, move." Pushing by him and heading back to her room. She's stopped suddenly by Eugene's hand wrapped around her wrist once more. "I don't mind, you don't need to change." Eugene says with a smile and eyes wondering.

Alex's narrows her eyes "Let go." In a very low and serious tone. Eugene releases his grip "okay, okay, calm down sweetheart. Just having some fun."

Alex walks up the stairs, showing him no fear. Then slams the door to her room once inside. "Why couldn't this door come with a lock" she whispers to herself. It probably doesn't help that the door also opens outwards, so barricades would be useless.

Alex then puts on a bra and some pajama pants. Then heads back to the door. Placeing her hand on the knob, she stops. Putting her left hand on the wall and head there near after. "What am I doing?" She thinks aloud.

Alex walks down the stairs and back into the kitchen. She noticed that the broken glass was now cleaned up. Going through the kitchen and into the main living area, Eugene is sitting near the glowing fireplace.

"Thanks for picking up the mess." Alex says breaking the silence.

"It was mine to begin with. Only right I picked it up." Eugene says keeping his eyes on the fire.

"Do you need some other clothes, yah know, before you leave? I think it may help you keep a lower profile." Alex asks looking at Eugene's long white sleeved shirt and light grey sweatpants.

"I'm not leaving, but new clothes would be nice. What you got?" He says while turning his head to look at Alex.

"Your not leaving? Ha! That's funny. Cuz I know your not staying here."

Eugene stands up and walks toward Alex, making her back meet the wall. Eugene's hands are on the wall, trapping Alex between them. She turns her head to the side as he leans in.

Eugene, just a centimeter from Alex's ear growls. "I think I'll stay here as long as I like." Eugene backs off and plops down on the coach.

Alex ignores what just happened and heads into one of the spare rooms. Eugene glances at her as she leaves, then directs his gaze back at the fire.

Eugene is startled out of his fireplace trance when a stack of folded clothes land on his lap. He looks up to see Alex looking back at him. "There's more in that room." Pointing at the door she just came out off. "Take a shower, im assuming you already know where it is. You smell like a hospital." She starts to leave the room, but stops to look back right before she's out of sight. "And if your going to stay. At least promise me you won't go upstairs. That's my space, you don't have any business being there."

Eugene with a shocked expression on his face, from Alex's mannerisms, responds "Yah. Sure."

"Promise me."

"I promise you princess." He says while turning back to the fireplace.

"Thanks." Alex utters, turning around and going upstairs.

Alex now laying on her bed, stairs up at the ceiling. She picks up the novel off her nightstand, the one she so desperately needed to finish, and opens it. Letting the bookmark fall out she begins reading. Alex finds herself reading the same line over and over again before processing it. Giving up completely when the sound of water, rushing through pipes in the wall, fill the room.

The sound is caused when the downstairs shower has been turned on. Alex places the book back on her nightstand, and wiggles her way under the covers. Waiting for the pipes to stop their crying, before calling it quits for the night. Alex looks up one more time, when the sound stops. She records the time in her head. '12:38. Night Eugene.' is the last thought that runs through her mind, before closing her eyes.

Around 4:26 in the morning, Alex is scared awake by a noise. She checks the time and realizes it's just Rue scratching at her door for his morning rounds. Rue, Alex's cat, doesn't mean to wake Alex. Every night around 4:30 Rue sneaks into the bedroom and sleeps next to Alex. Acting as if he was there all night. Rue normally would go unnoticed untill Alex wakes up, but she had the door shut this time.

Alex fips the covers back and walks toward the door. Cracking it open just enough for Rue to enter. He does and Alex closes it once more. Picking up Rue and snuggling back in bed.

Eugene awakes at 7:00, the time they always awoke him in the ward. For a short few seconds he was disoriented, not knowing where in the world he was. Eugene's memories come back quickly and he starts thinking about breakfast. Getting up from the couch he walks into the kitchen. He stretches out his arms and yawns, before opening the fridge. Nothing, absolutely nothing is in the fridge. "Why does she even have a fridge?" He whispers to himself.

Looking in the pantry he finds one cereal box and a shelf full of instant noodles. "She doesn't even have milk, why does she have... aahhhh." He sighs in frustration, while dragging his hand down his face.

Eugene leaves the cabin with Alex's car keys, and drives himself to the nearest place with food. Which happened to be another cabin, just a few miles from Alex's.

Fast forward an hour, Alex wakes up to the smell of bacon. She's excited at first until she remembers that she hasn't gone shopping in a week or two. Still sitting in bed she palms her face and sighs "Eugene, where did you get bacon?"

Flipping back the covers, then wondering over to her sink. Alex brushes her teeth and takes care of a other normal hygiene tasks. She then changes into some black sweatpants and a white crop top. Looking into the mirror above her dresser, Alex places her hair into a messy bun. In the reflection she can see her door slightly open. "Tha fuc.." she says in a volume below a whisper.

She looks around the room and notices Rue was gone. Alex had several theories as to why her door was open. Jumping to one specific one though. She thinks that Eugene had opened the door, for what reason she doesn't know.

That or Rue did, but he's an eight year old cat. Why would he be able to open doors now.

Stomping down the stairs and ready to share some words with Eugene. Alex turns into the kitchen and locks eyes on Eugene. Who is now pulling bacon out of the oven.

Eugene notices that Alex is in the room and wishes her a good morning then adds "I made bacon." With a smile.

"Did you go in my room?" Alex asks not quite loud enough to be heard.

Eugene has placed the pan one the counter, and is now moving one sizzling slice at a time to a plate with paper towel on it. "Huh?"

Raising her tone "Did you go in my room?"

"No. Why?"

"My door was open, and im pretty sure my cat didn't let himself out."

"Strange. I'm pretty sure I shut it when I left." He smirks while biting down on a piece of bacon. Alex walks towards him and pushes him. "You said you didn't go in my room! And on top of that you promised."

Eugene laughs at Alex's childish push. "Hakuna your tatas. I didn't go in your room I just let your cat out..." pausing for a slight moment then continuing the sentence, but slightly quieter. "While I was checking in on you."

Alex shoves him again a little harder, accidentally knocking the bacon from his had. "Ahwww my bacon." He childishly pouts.

"You don't need to 'check in on me' you creep, and where did you get bacon? I know I didn't have any."

"And eggs, I got eggs too. To clear up my motives of checking in on you, I was simply making sure you didn't escape."

"Escape? This is my house I will leave whenever I want to. Plus I got work Monday, im going to have to leave eventually." Before Eugene could get a world in Alex pipes up again. "Stop changing the subject! Where did you get the food?"

"The cabin up the road." Eugene says while grabbing another peice.

"The Shamrock's house? You didn't kill anyone did you?"

Eugene stops smiling and straightens up. Placing the slice back on the plate before pushing Alex against the fridge. "Let's get one thing straight, I don't kill at random. Wouldn't you think, if I was as bad as they say, I would have done something with your pretty little body already?"

Im hoping in this story to stay focused. I want to be able to release a new character ever two days. That is not a promise though. But at max it should only take me a week.

If you see a spelling error, or anything like that go ahead and point it out. I will go and fix it. Sometimes I'm blind to my own mistakes.

Also comment! I would love to hear what you guys think about the story thus far. Don't forget to leave a like either. :)
