Chereads / Love Is All Around / Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

The days began dragging on-again, reflecting the emotional and physical pressures that the three of them have endured. A meeting was placed at the Great Hall that morning for all the students to attend. Everyone sat down quietly and waited in anticipation.

"Good morning, students. Our meeting has been arranged today to discuss several matters, mostly concerning your little, bright-eyed faces and minds." Dumbledore commented.

"Our first matter of discussion is Trelawney's collapse," he continued. Many students began murmuring to one another at the hearing of these words.

"She is doing fine, if you are wondering and is still being treated in St Mungo's. Our wonderful staff are contributing with great effort to cure her. Whilst she is being treated, Divination lessons shall be cancelled."

An eruption of cheers echoed around the hall, mostly coming from the Slytherin students.

"Now, the next events to discuss are the Triwizard Tournament and the Yule Ball." Even more, murmuring occurred now, with many excited and distressed faces. Leta groaned to herself.

"The Triwizard Tournament, for those who don't know, is an annual event that our school participates in, along with other international schools. The schools participating this year are Ilvermorny, the North American wizarding school in Massachusetts and Durmstrang Institute, the European wizarding school."

"Now for the voting situation, you shall elect a student and I repeat, one student to compete in this remarkable tournament. Remember, this is for the school and its pride. As well as 1000 galleons, the Triwizard cup and everlasting, eternal glory." he spoke with great enthusiasm.

"The Yule Ball shall also take place on the 25th of December, the most wonderful time of the year, between the first and second of the Triwizard tasks. Remember, you need to bring a date." he smiled, waiting for a reaction from his audience. Leta groaned even more.

"This is a wonderful time for socialising and taking the time to relax and blend in with the world around you. Now take care! Toodle pip!" he commented, ushering the students to continue with their school schedules.

"Leta." Dumbledore whispered, "My office now."

She nodded, surprised by his sudden action.

"What does he want with me? Have I done something wrong?" she thought.

She followed Dumbledore to his grand office, filled with talking portraits, odd objects and Fawkes the phoenix, who cawed happily at the sight of Dumbledore.

"Now, I watched your reactions to our school meeting this morning. Something wrong?" he questioned her.

"No." she replied meekly, intimidated by the Headmaster's presence.

"Well, the advantage of growing old means I have plenty of insight into how people think and work, and judging by your groaning at this morning's meeting, there is clearly something wrong."

"Ok. You got me." she chuckled.

"What is it then?"

"Oh, just social life," she responded.

"Really? I think you can elaborate!" He did this to test her social skills after all the emotional pressure she has endured.

"Um..." she paused, "L... L..." She couldn't let the word slip off her tongue.

"I knew it. Love!"

"How?"

"Um..." he paused, "Well, the school has been built with many security cameras that I monitor. One of them is placed in the Hufflepuff common room, as well as all the other common rooms. And it just so happened that I saw your little incident between you and the Scamander brothers."

"Schnitzel!" she exclaimed. "DON'T. TELL. A. SINGLE. SOUL. LIVING. OR. DEAD!" she enunciated, pacing his office, similar to what Theseus did when he paced the corridor a few days ago.

"Don't worry. I don't spill secrets. But, I am concerned."

"What about?"

"Well, as I've understood it, your situation is rather complex. You love Theseus and Theseus loves you. Simple?"

"Yes," she replied.

"But then... Newt woke up to see your relationship strengthen immensely and he isn't pleased. I see it for two reasons. One, he didn't know about this connection and two, it's between you and his own brother." he placed specific emphasis on the last three words.

"Yes," she said. "So how do I figure the situation out between us? And how do I ease the tension?" she questioned.

The headmaster wrote down her prescription which read:

Headmaster's advice:

Make sure to not rub it into Newt's face. Newt is a very sensitive and emotional person, easily affected by these kinds of comments and loving affairs.

Don't ruffle Theseus' feathers either. He's the kind of guy that is very calculated and analytical. He still thinks emotionally though and will take notice if you leave him alone for too long of a period of time.

Go back and connect with Newt on a personal interest kind of level. Remembering his favourite things in the world are creatures, he is particularly fascinated by them. Maybe help him record some information on them or something like that, so he forgets the dilemma and strengthens your friendly bond.

For Theseus, just act natural. Talk the small talk and then build up to your true potential.

"Here you go!" he said, handing her his prescription.

"Thanks," she said, quickly scanning the document.

"If you follow my instructions, your next encounters with the Scamander brothers are most likely to go successfully!" he smiled. "Also..."

He quickly wrote another note which read:

If you're struggling with this advice or need some help, come to my office and we can chat.

PS: I like Acid Pops

"Thanks again." She left the office, feeling a little better. Perhaps hope was right at the door.

"I can finally repair our bonds! Me and the Scamander brothers all swell!" she thought.
