Chapter 1 - 1.The day before New Years Eve

Asonya woke up with a start jumping out of bed, running straight into the joining bathroom. Doing a fast brush Asonya rinse out her mouth with fresh water then dashed out of her room already changed into her running clothes. She didn't take long to be down the stairs, into the kitchen where there were already people sitting around chattering and eating breakfast.

Asonya didn't waste time grabbing a plate but stuffed her mouth with food as she goes taking up a cup of orange juice which wasn't hers downing it in one go. The people at the table didn't bat an eye because they are used to this behavior from Asonya. After all, they are animals but she tends to act more like it when she left the room with a satisfied burp.

Asonya wasn't one of grace, there was nothing ladylike about her but that doesn't mean she doesn't draw attention to herself with her almost snow-white her, piercing blue eyes, and unblemished skin. Asonya is beautiful and not the average beauty but everyone has their drawbacks and that is her own.

A fierce beauty, loyalty built in her cells to her tissues which makes up every part of her body, strong fighter in her pack, and so Asonya is a magnet to the opposite sex wanting to have a strong female by their side and the benefits of mating will only make them stronger. Asonya is looked at like a trophy and there are some that respect and those that are jealous, mostly the female population.

Asonya inhaled deeply, inhaling the fresh krispy morning air. Asonya could still smell the dew on plants near by and the earth. An earth lover, spends more time in the sun more than anyone else. Even though it was cold out it didn't bother her. She only stepped off of the wood and in to the fresh snow that fell last night.

It didn't take long for Asonya to continue her morning routine, the cold breeze blowing against her expose skin giving her a refreshing felling and also cause her to generate more speed.

"Asonya! Asonya wait up!" Draca was coming in her direction from behind shouting and waving Asonya down for her to stop. Meanwhile, up front Asonya groaned and rolled her eyes not stopping or slowing down she only increased her speed.

How annoying?

Asonya wanted to do her morning run on her own with just the sound of nature not with useless noise. Asonya could hear the person behind her already out of breath.

Pathetic.

He's so out of shape so it's a good thing he's got out of the pack house to exercise. How can they be the strongest pack in the world if the pack have losers like him and he haven't even ran a mile yet?

"Asonya!" he called breathlessly but there was no catching up to that girl she was running too fast and she wasn't in her wolf form. would he still be able to see a fur of her if she had decided to take the run in her wolf form.

That girl can really run. No wonder she is the number on female fighter in this pack.

Sweat started to form on her forehead and she could see the sun coming up as it's rays try to peak through the pace between the tree. Asonya smiled, there's nothing that she loves like the sun rising in the morning marking the begining of another day. She increased her speed forgetting that someone was running to catch up with her, too focus on the bright sun light creeping more and more into the forest chasing away all that was before and replacing it with splendid light of the day.

Ignoring the panting male behind her Asonya took off running and if Draca thought that she was running at a speed that he couldn't catch up to he was wrong because now he could not see Asonya on the forest trail anymore.

Slowing down at the edge of the cliff, Asonya look out over the forest before her admiring the beauty of the all green shade and brown. Asonya wasn't panting even after running miles she just stood there like she had took a leisurely walk and not a run.

Asonya hearing was up to par as well and she could hear the forest awaken and if she wanted the pack. Good hearing right.

Panting Draca stopped five feet away from where Asonya was standing interrupting her peace again with his unwanted presence. She pretended not to notice still watching the sun.

"Asonya why didn't you wait for me and instead of waiting you ran faster or you avoiding me?" he asked sweating running down his face, bending in the back with his hands on his knees trying to catch his breath and there she stand not even close to being winded.

"Draca." The sound of his name coming from such a soft voice made him pause looking up with his eyes he stared at Asonya her back still to him.

"Yeah," He said slowly.

"Shut up." she didn't shout or yell it was just softly spoken.

She's just standing there doing nothing. What could she be staring at?

Draca did what she said, standing up straight he walked over to stand by her. He glanced sideways looking at her before returning his view to the green scenery that Asonya was looking at.

Now he got it, the peace and quiet of the forest with only the sound of wild animals, the wind brushing the small hair on your skin and the warmth of the sun as it rise into the sky.

Turning around, Asonya started walking down hill and off of the cliff with Draca still staring out at the scenery too caught up to see that Asonya is leaving. It was when she was halfway down he realized that she was leaving. Draca jogged to catch up with her.

Asonya and Draca walked in silence until Draca decided to talk. "Are you excited about tomorrow night? Well, I'm pumped about it I can't wait to see who my mate it. How about you Asonya are you excited. I know I am."

Asonya thought this morning would be a quiet morning but guess not. After avoiding running with other pack members to avoid getting drawn into a conversation like this about their destined mate and not to forget your enemy. For weeks this was all Asonya could here about "mates" none talk about their enemies that is fated to come. The pack was buzzing with it and since it's just a few hours away from finding out, that buzz has become more electrified.

Non stop talking about mates and what they think their mate would look like or who they want or wish their mate would be.

Honestly, Asonya is sick of it. She doesn't want to get tied to a man so soon or feel the need for a male to protect, care for her or love her. Eighteen, that's too young to get shackled to a overprotective and overbearing, hormonal male. She's strong enough to protect herself, care for herself and no doubt she has enough self love. Asonya is the opposite of all these female in her pack frawning over a mate that they have never met before.

Asonya refuse to be fragile and to be protected by the opposite sex, she can be a hero of her own, save herself and others. A mate now will just slow her down. She doesn't want a mate that dotes over her, thinking that she is helpless and will always be a damsel in distress. No she refuse to be that kind of person. She has an animal inside of her just like her counterparts and she is not weak.

So getting excited for the mate revealing ceremony is not exciting to her but a obstacle, a chain waiting to snap around her wrist trapping her and putting her on the side line to watch a man fight for her. If her mate thinks that he can win her heart easily he got another thing coming. Asonya will not submit easily and so she will fight the bond all the way.
