Chereads / My Immortal Lover / Chapter 8 - What we have

Chapter 8 - What we have

"You sure are fast for an old lady!" I teased my mother, who was flying faster than I ever remember.

"I just like to show you up!" She laughed, flying lower so that the clouds covered her from the harsh sun. "Oh yeah- sure!" I flew faster, challenging her to a race back to the house. She accepted.

We both flapped with all our might, only for the race to end as soon as I won, smacking into the side of the house. What can I say? I still haven't perfected my landing... ehehe...

My mother landed gracefully in front of the door and transformed back into a woman in a black dress. I scurried to do the same, and transformed into my taller, more human-like self.

My mind suddenly fluttered to the image of Mikey. I wonder if he's awake yet. Walking inside, I could smell the bitter coffee my dad always made in the mornings. There was another smell too. It smelled like loneliness and heartbreak. Oh...

I quickly marched up the stairs and opened my bedroom door. What I saw next made my heart flutter and shatter at the same time. Odd, I know, but who could resist an adorable omega curled up on your bed with a homemade nest? I sure couldn't.

I walked closer to discover that he was asleep. Not for long though. He sniffed the air and blinked a few times before realizing that I had entered the room. "Donny?" He asked softly.

Alright- he's officially melted my dead heart.

I sat beside him and stroked his chestnut colored hair. "Hey there. Are you ok?" I waited for the little werewolf to answer. "I- I'm fine. I uh...I made this nest. I hate being an omega." He replied in a whimper. He still lay there, curled up in the pillows and blankets which made the nest.

It's usually a thing omegas do when they start their heats, but sometimes they make nests when they're feeling lonely or they're expecting children. It's an heart-warming sight, really. Though...he smells as if he's lonely, which isn't good at all.

"Were you lonely without me?" I asked lowly. Mikey straightened himself out. He looked side-to-side as if someone were watching, then nodded slightly. I smiled and hugged him gently. "I missed you too."

The omega's scent returned to normal as I held him in my arms. He seemed to be calmed by my own scent, and almost allured. "D-Donovan?" "Hm?" I hummed softly. "Can I ask you a question?" The werewolf asked. "Sure, what is it?"

"U-um... do you think- m-maybe.... we'redestinedmates??? The omega blurred his words together. I didn't understand what he said. "Are we, what now?" I asked. "A-are we destinedmates?" His face was filled with a red pigment that tinted his cheeks and the bridge of his nose. I smiled, not fully knowing what he asked.

"I still didn't understand a word of what you just asked." I chuckled. "W-well it's embarrassing!" Mikey shouted. "Shhh- don't yell." I pressed my finger to his lips. They were so soft...

"Now...ask me again, but this time don't blur your words together. Take it slowly." I tried to coax him into getting the words out.

"Ok...," He breathed. "Do you think... that we're u-uhm..." He paused mid-sentence. Now I was anxious to know what he was going to say. "Do you think we're destined mates?" He asked quietly.

My cheeks flushed pink as a wide grin spread onto my face. "I- I dunno..." I answered. Mikey didn't say a word.

Destined mates were largely believed in many hundreds of years ago, ever since the first alpha and omega mated. The supposed 'Luna goddess' was who chose the pairings, and who the vampires and werewolves worshipped. Today, many people don't take that kind of thing very seriously, and it is something used in bedtime stories to keep children's imaginations active.

I didn't know what to think. All of the signs were there, but maybe it was just our imaginations. We definitely shared a bond, and we felt the same emotions most of the time. But...we've only known each other for five days... how can we be sure?

"What do you think?" I asked him. The little werewolf pursed his lips and looked down, red-faced. "I... I think we might be." He mumbled. "I think you might be right..." I muttered back.

"Ever since we....eh- did it, I've felt a really strong bond between us..." I added. Mikey's eyes went wide. "Yeah, me too." His voice was low. "U-um..." The omega paused before scooting over to me. "Do you think...we can test it out?" Mikey inched his face closer to mine. "Yeah." I whispered back.

The brunet boy climbed on top of me and kissed me. His scent smelled of chocolate and marshmallows... I kissed back with vigor as I was forced backward onto my bed. "Mmph-" The noises he made were adorable. I wanted to hear more.

As our kissing grew more passionate, I slipped my hands down, down, down some more until I reached his pants. What can I say- my hands have minds of their own. Mikey's breathed hitched as I slid my hands into his pants. "A-ah!" He swayed my hands, which I immediately pulled away. "You big damn pervert!" He shouted at me.

I laughed and brushed it off as nothing. Just as Mikey was about to climb off of me, I pulled him back down and flipped him over so that he was underneath me. This felt more natural. I pressed light kisses to his neck, right where his scent gland is.

"Ah~" he moaned lowly as I sucked and nibbled on his neck. I only bit lightly, because I didn't want to use my fangs or hurt him. "Please mark me~" Mikey whined. "What? I don't think you want me to do that..." I suggested. "Why? I want you~" He looked at me with those sappy puppy dog eyes.

"It will hurt...a lot." I added. "I don't care. I need you so badly~" he begged. His begging sounded as if he were in heat. "Are you absolutely sure you want this? What about your brother? What about the fact that I'm a vampire?" I asked these questions. They made me query the situation myself.

"I don't care! I- I love you...." The omega had tears in his eyes. Those words... they made me shudder with delight. But I just couldn't bring myself to mark him. There was a long pause before I spoke again. "I can't, Mikey!" I thought I was going to cry as well. "Why not?!" He shouted, hot tears streaming from his golden eyes. "B-because I'm not ready! I don't think you are either! What if we aren't destined mates?! What if we just think we are, and it's not true?!" I shouted.

I didn't want to believe any of it...

"W-why the fuck would you say that?! Donovan, I love you!" He stuttered between sobs and hiccups. "Look, I'm sorry... I- I have to go clear my head for a bit." I stormed out of the room and left the house. I passed my parents on the way out, who looked shell-shocked. They can piss off...

I could almost hear Mikey's sobbing from here. I went further away and walked down the block until I didn't know where I was. Even then, I continued. He was being childish... and I was being a big dickhead. I already knew how this was going to play out...

I walked for a while, until the sun was high in the sky. It must be somewhere after noontime. I'd left in such a hurry that I hadn't grabbed my phone, so I wasn't sure of the time. I finally found myself somewhere I recognized. I was downtown near the park.

The same park where I had taken Mike Miller back to my home. The same park where I started to grow feelings for that same omega. The same park where I realized I needed to go back and apologize...

I'm such a dick. Mikey is gonna think I hate him now. I need to go back... even if we were both in the wrong- I need to apologize.

I transformed into my bat and flew off into the clouds. It would be faster than walking back. I had been gone for at least two hours now, so flying was my only option. Shortly after, I reached my house and stumbled into the grass. I transformed back into a human-like figure and rushed through the door.

My parents weren't home... Mikey's smell was faint. I walked upstairs quietly and knocked on the door to my bedroom. I didn't want to disturb him or make him more upset. "Mikey? It's me... Donovan. I need to tell you something important." I was met with silence.

I opened the door, but I didn't see Mikey anywhere. "Mikey?" I looked around the room, but...he was gone. I searched the rest of the house, but found nothing. He was really gone.

I felt tears build up in my eyes. I had really blown it this time. I should've just done what he asked and marked him then and there. Fuck my life... or rather- non-life.

Dammit! Where is he? He could be anywhere by now... and more importantly, where are my parents? They might know where he is. But- will he want to see me? I highly doubt it... but I can't leave him. I don't care if he doesn't want to see me or not.

I love him.
