Chapter 5 - WAR

There were two kingdoms- the Anatoli kingdom in the east inhabited by humans and the Occiden kingdom in the west occupied by nephilims, silver haired and blue-eyed creatures who despite looking very much like humans in both form and stature are descended from angels. Their immense strength, sharp senses, supernatural powers, long lives and natural ability to control magic at will, made them different from the humans in the east.

For millions of years, they were a proud kingdom and for millions of years, they still had tensions against the humans that lived beside them. Both were enemies for a very long time and despite this friction, they managed to lie low from wars, battles and unnecessary deaths with each other which they managed for long, stable years, now. However, the humans still feared the nephilims, their immense power, unpredictable wit, and seemingly superior abilities while the nephilims abhorred the humans, their greed, cruelty, selfishness and weaknesses. This relationship between their two races created an unspeakable rift between them despite the close proximity of their lands.

However, the Occiden kingdom was at war amongst themselves. Their empire which was once ruled by a just emperor who just died after a million years of rule, is now left with a new ruler, the former emperor's first-born son, the first prince, Ezio. However, Ezio's first few years of rule was filled with tyranny and corruption. Though he took the crown, and by the kingdom's rules is the heir to the throne, the sword of kings, Excalibur didn't choose him. The sword, which can only be wielded by the one true king and emperor chose his third brother, Aisling who was third in line to the throne.

The third prince was beloved by the people of Occiden. Others thought that this admiration was because of his attractive and stunning beauty. After all, he was named the most handsome prince out of the three princes of the empire. But it was more than that. Unlike the cold, stern and conservative royal family which he belonged to, Prince Aisling was more warm, approachable, welcoming and kind to the people. This open and agreeable atmosphere which he exudes made him loved and supported.

When their father, the king and emperor was still alive, Excalibur belonged to him and when that sword, known to choose it's own master was presented to Occiden in a public ceremony, Aisling, along with his two older brothers had no idea, then how such a sword will change their lives.

That day was a glorious ceremony marking the instatement of the first prince, Ezio as the next heir to the throne. The celebrations had lasted for seven days already and as per tradition, the eight and last day of this feasting must end with a royal declaration and presenting of the royal sword that will secure the first prince's destiny as future king and emperor.

His father, taking the sword from his scabbard held it with two hands, showed it to the crowds and soon handed it to his first son but as soon as Ezio's touch landed on the sword, a strong and powerful force pushed him away mightily, flying him to the air as if punching the prince with a hard and emphatic blow. The whole empire fell in silence, in complete, destitute shock.

"The first prince and the first-born son? The supposed to be heir to the throne was rejected?" everyone thought. There was no noise. No such words were spoken but it was written all over their faces and to the first prince, that day marked his humiliation in front of his people. As if to rub salt to his wounds, the magical sword levitated from the emperor's grasps and as it was floating in the air, soon it landed, again another surprise, on the third prince, Aisling's hands, the same prince who had no desire whatsoever to be king and emperor, he who never wanted the glamour of royal life.

Another complete silence befell the land, even the skies and the clouds stopped moving and Occiden was in a state of shock. All the nephilims had their blue eyes wide open, all gaze focused on the third prince, the sword of kings and emperors in his hands as Excalibur shone in it's bright and golden fiery blaze, shooting it's light above the skies, as if declaring to the whole world it's chosen master, the one true king and emperor of Occiden.

This display only made the first prince jealous, angered and in resentment of his younger brother who, in just a second stole the spotlight from him. His tyranny was born that day. His poisonous jealousy consumed him in darkness.

Days later, Ezio was still crowned king and emperor since by the rules of the kingdom, he is still the first born son and the rightful heir to the throne. However, he never gained the people's support. He was only a king in the papers for even though the crown landed on his head, the people recognized another king and emperor and it was not him but another person who happened to be his brother.

Back then, during the past seven days of celebration for the kingdom's successor, the people never knew that history would be created on the eighth and last day of their festivities. For ironically, that festival marked the beginning of Occiden's ten years of war, a war between the first and the third prince.
