Chapter 31 - You smell funny, son

The only clue that led to the 10th system's host, in order words, Patrick, the big bro had was at Diluculum High School. But he knew that the Taoists were still there in case he came back, so he stayed in his room in the hotel all days since that fight with the Taoists. He practiced his Blood Demon Art in the meantime.

("I must avenge my brothers...and find that host bastard who put us through this.") the big bro thought in his head, revenge thought filled his mind.

Meanwhile, Patrick also did not go to school, but switched to study online, because he did not want to face the Taoists, who could know right away that he was a human-demon hybrid and would chase him down; he also did not want to meet or face the demon that was sent to chase him.

But that did not mean he was ignorant at the actions of the Taoists and the big bro. Everyday, he sent Saber to watch over the areas around the school. It was very hard to detect Saber, as long as he hid carefully, for he was a cyborg and it was hard to detect any intention from a machine.

In the meantime, Patrick continued learning his skills with Dyrroth. He became even more willing to learn after he was given the task by the System.

"I know the black throne that Dyrroth sits on but what's about the crystal? Patrick asked.

<> replied the System while showing a model of Dyrroth on its screen, and a blue arrow pointing at Dyrroth's chest.

"I want to know its uses."

<>

"Who...wait..." Patrick realized who the System was talking about.

<>

"Ugh, so curious...open the Shop." Patrick remembered that he could not only gain Heroes from leveling up, but also from the Shop.

<>

Patrick looked through the prices. He saw that most Heroes need 32,000 BP to purchase, Alice was one of the few that costed 15,000 BP.

"Why are they so expensive?" Patrick asked.

<> the System replied.

("Ugh, I thought they would not be too expensive seeing how Dyrroth purchased the items!") Patrick lamented in his heart. He was a Prince, a rich kid so in real life, he spent money and successfully purchased all Heroes and skins in the game. He had never thought that one day, he would be lamenting over the lack of money.

"5,000 more...5,000 more...not knowing the use of your reward is not good" Patrick mumbled.

Patrick did not notice that Dyrroth was standing behind him and he seemed to worry about something.

At the café/casino,

It was after sunset, so the place reverted back to a casino plus nightclub.

Kai was in his suit, more precisely it was his night uniform, and he was serving as a croupier (dealer) for the Roulette Wheel.

"35!" shouted a man with French mustache.

"21!" shouted a man with gold rings on all his 10 fingers said.

"18!" a middle age woman shouted before she took out a cigarette.

"Sorry, Madame! No smoking here!" said Kai while pointing at the NO SMOKING sign.

The woman showed displeasure on her face, she intended to argue with him. But a muscular man walked over, standing beside Kai. He asked:

"Have you gotten used to here, Kai?"

"Yes, manager." Kai turned around and answered the man.

"Good!" the man patted Kai's shoulder, and before he left, he glared at the woman, who felt a shiver ran down her spine.

"Alright, let's begin!" said Kai.

And the roulette began to spin.

SPIN...SPIN...SPIN

Everyone tried to breathe in and breathe out, even Kai did that, he could feel the pressure.

And the ball fell on a black hole.

"It is..." Kai prepared to declare.

Everybody else breathed in.

"35!" Kai shouted.

"Muahahahahaha...I win!" the man with French mustache laughed and began to dance.

("This job has so much pressure!") thought Kai, wiping the sweats on his forehead.

At dinner,

Patrick with others had been waiting for some minutes and the food hadn't been brought up, even the appetizer.

"Where is the food?" Vincent asked angrily.

"Who are you asking?" King Frederik VII glared at him.

"Uh...erm...I'm sorry, grandfather!"

"Grandfather, when will the food be brought up?" Patrick asked the King, then looked at Vincent and smiled.

("Spoiled brat!") he thought.

"Oh, just a while ago, I received a sudden message from the Archbishop's residence, that's why I did not have time to tell you all. Archbishop McKenna will be joining us for dinner. As he is a little busy, we will wait for him."

Everyone was surprised but no one shouted and kept their composure.

But inside Patrick's head was panic, he knew that the Taoists fought against demon and ghost, but isn't the Church the same with their exorcist role? Furthermore, Archbishop McKenna was his godfather and a distant relative of his mother, what was he going to tell the Archbishop?

"Erm...grandfather...I think I'm still a little tired from the sickness not long ago. I will go back to my room."

Without saying anything, King Frederik nodded.

---

Patrick was walking in the East Hall toward his room when he saw two men walking toward him. One was old, the other one was young; one had nearly bald head, while the other's head was full of black hair; one was wearing a Roman purple robe for bishop, while the other one was wearing black robe for priest.

("Crap, it's the Archbishop and his assisting priest.") Patrick realized the two men immediately.

He wanted to hide but it was already too late. The Archbishop already stood in front of him.

"Greetings, Your Lordship!" Patrick greeted Archbishop McKenna.

"You are my godson, so no need to be so formal!" replied the Archbishop.

Patrick looked up and his eyes met the Archbishop's eyes. He felt like those eyes saw through his body and soul, and knew all his secrets, including the system and his hybrid nature.

"Where are you going? I remember the dining hall is the opposite way." asked the Archbishop.

"I...erm...feel a little sick...so I'm going back to my room." said Patrick.

"...God bless you!" said the Archbishop, raising his hand and gave blessing to Patrick.

And Patrick made the sign of the Cross just like any other believer.

When he thought the Archbishop was leaving, the Archbishop whispered to his ear:

"You smell...funny, son!"
