Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: An Odd Family Dynamic

Once Evan had reached the last step, he searched for the kitchen. Evan planned to slowly allow "his" past timid nature to fade away over time, simply in order to prevent his family from being suspicious.

As he reached the kitchen, he spotted his mother, Noel, who was just as stunning as before. He could honestly stare at her eyes forever, but that would be weird because she was his mother. She was currently chopping up some odd root like vegetable. Evan had thought dinner would have already been done, as that was why he was told to come down but, it didn't matter.

As he took in the kitchen, he noticed there was white fur in various areas and instantly recognized it as his mothers. That obviously meant his father was the human or so he hoped. He did NOT want to find out he's not even human in the least. Evan slowly made his way to the round wooden kitchen table and sat down in probably one of the most uncomfortable chairs to ever exist. It felt as though his ass was sitting on sand paper and god, the texture felt awful whenever he moved around.

"Ev hun, would you mind venturing into the forest for me? We've run out of golden nuts which is a staple in my stew. Remember, they can be found near sources of water," she began to elaborate before suddenly cutting herself off. "Oh! I almost forgot, your father said he had wonderful news for you, though he refused to share it with me," she pouted, as though she were a child in an adult's body.

Evan was about to leave the chair, glad for the reminder as to where these supposed golden nuts were, before the front door slammed open. Evan's ears and tail both popped into existence, which he had somehow put away, and he hit his knee under the table. While Evan was holding his knee as though it were the worst pain in existence, a loud voice boomed throughout the house.

"I'm back and better than ever!" The voice was somewhat raspy, yet powerful all at the same time. Evan took in the man's appearance, who he realized was his father and well damn, was everyone just attractive? His father stood at 6'4", a literal giant compared to both his wife and himself, and had short red hair that could be described as a bird's nest. He had muscles for days, looking like someone from a body building championship. His eyes were a cerulean blue and he wore the most gleeful smile. The one odd thing that Evan noticed was that his father had the strangest tattoo on his left bicep. It was a rapier of some sort with a very odd looking flower right in the middle. It was a type of mix of some sort, maybe a rose and tulip? Normally, Evan would have just ignored but his fox-like instincts were screaming at him.

Deciding to just think about it another time, he stared back again at his father, Torres. A real hunk of a man. The only thing that really bothered Evan was that he was only 5'2" and yet, his father was 6'4". Where are his tall genes?!?

"Dear, you've been out for," his mother casually checks the watch on her wrist before sighing, "2 hours. A record time." His mother just dismissed her husband and went back to finishing up the stew. "Ev, hun, go get those golden nuts please. You know that if the stew cooks for too long, it'll be all soggy and taste awful." She badgered on, attempting to push her son outside, despite the fact that he was now slightly limping.

"Noe, wait a second. I have amazing news for our very, very special son. Your stew can wait." He huffed, wanting to share joyful news with his son. It took only a second for his mother to walk over to his father and hit him right where it hurts. "Your great news can wait, my stew absolutely cannot and you very well know this. For that, you're on the couch tonight. Ev, sweetie, go on." She pushed him completely out the door while Evan just gapped at this odd family dynamic. In the background, he could hear his father groan and fall to the ground, regretting his life decisions.

Evan stared at the beautiful forest surrounding him, before allowing his memories to bring him towards his goal. He just hoped he didn't run into anything.

That'd be a drag.
