The light from the outside hit Evan's body in a way that made him ethereal. Had anyone else been in the room at the time, they'd have most likely been too stunned to speak. His soft snores and cute face simply added onto the effect. Evan didn't really view himself as extremely cute, just relatively cute, but if the humans disregarded the color of his hair, maybe the old Evan's life would've been far more different. Maybe Jacob would've woken up in another's body but, here they are.
As Evan's eyes fluttered open, his gently rubbed his eyes before using his arms to push himself up. He stretched himself a bit, wanting to not feel so stiff in the morning. He threw off the blanket and found himself walking towards his closet, wanting to find something nice to wear after his shower.
He then quickly remembered it was the Light month, meaning the hottest month of the cycle. It didn't cross his mind yesterday as he was already wearing clothing that suited the weather. It was just another aspect of his new life that correlated with his old one.
There were 12 months in this world, but each month was named after a specific magic. The order goes as follows:
Ice
Charm
Earth
Water
Floral
Light
Metal
Gravity
Fire
Dark
Air
Elemental
There were other types of magic, such as time, celestial, chaos, etc, but those were far rarer and information about them was taught at the academy.
Shuffling around his closet, looking for something comfy but wearable during this awful heat, Evan finally found exactly what he wanted. It was a black tank top with the academy crest, something the old Evan had purchased long before he knew he was rejected. He paired it with some black shorts and chose some bright red boxers. With his outfit decided, excluding accessories of any sort, Evan made his way to the bathroom.
Once he was inside, he searched through the cabinet for another type of body wash, as the current one was favored by the old Evan, yet it's a scent the current him cannot stand: orange. He'd always disliked the scent and taste of oranges, even as a child. If he could avoid it, he damn well would. In the corner of the cabinet, he spotted an unopened bar of soap that smelled like peaches. He was so glad this world had food that he recognized, otherwise it'd be far harder to assimilate to.
His ears and tail popped out as he turned on the shower head, preparing to completely clean himself. He opened the floral shower curtain and hopped right in, moaning at how nice the water felt on not just his skin, but on his ears. The warmth made him feel relaxed, as if all his stress had flown away and just left blissful ignorance in its wake. He hummed a bit, having been used to singing in his past life in the shower.
He pumped the shampoo bottle head before stepping out of the water. He threw both his hands on top of his head and washed his hair, feeling such bliss. It was really nice to take a relaxing shower after a stressful past few days. Once he finished his hair, he stepped right back into the water, not wanting to go back out again despite knowing he had to. What followed was him redoing his hair with conditioner instead, leaving it in, and then using the peach scented soap bar to bathe his body. He learned that both his ears and tail were sensitive spots on his body, aside from the well-known sensitive parts. While bathing his body, he also noticed something that bothered him. He was...smaller down there. He pouted, feeling as though it just added onto the fact that he was much smaller than he was before.
He grabbed a towel that hung from the rails, wrapping it around his body. As he wiped himself down, he slowly placed his hand on top of his head, feeling static and fluff all in one. With a sigh, he threw on his clothing and left the bathroom, feeling a slight chill encompass his body. He really did not like the cold but unsurprisingly, the fox within him thought otherwise. It was like having two forces fight for control, just at weirder times. He had no fox form, so the fox dwelling within him could never really seek its own life and instead was stuck with him.
He quickly shuffled back to his room, grabbed a beige backpack and hurried downstairs. His mother was eating some form of porridge at the table and once she heard him, she looked up.
"Hi hun, did you sleep well? If you're going out today, please bring back some groceries, we seem to be running low and I have other tasks to do. If you're hungry, there's extra porridge." She mentioned, before taking another bite of her meal.
"Alright, I can do that. Could I-i have a list?" He asked, having no idea what he was supposed to actually buy because the old Evan didn't go out often in the first place.
"Hm? A list? Alright hun, I can do that. Make sure your fox traits are hidden, the humans in Alba have been a bit more restless lately so do be careful," she explained, grabbing a piece of paper and a pen so she could write out exactly what he needed.
He nodded towards her and grabbed a bowl of porridge. He was somewhat surprised by the sweetness and taste of it, having expected something much plainer. He uttered a soft moan, enjoying the food far more than he anticipated.
Noel chuckled as she watched her son, glad to see he was enjoying the food. She wasn't really blind, she had noticed that her son was sad often but he would just get so closed off that she struggled to communicate with him. She did want to help him and she's glad that he seems happier the last few days. The only thing she truly blamed herself for was for ignoring the tiny pale red lines on her baby's arms. It hurt to see them and if she just didn't acknowledge them, then she could pretend they didn't exist. Maybe it wasn't the right thing to do but, sometimes it was just hard to help, someone even if it was her son, especially if they refuse to take it.
She finally finished the list and gently handed it to him. She quickly took his face in her hands and placed the sweetest of kisses on his forehead. Her son was flustered and it was so cute to see. She realized that Ev never really accepted physical affection and tended to shy away from it, but maybe it because he was shy about it.
Evan could feel his face heating up from the softness of his mother's affection, relishing in it. "T-thanks mom. I'll b-be on my way." He quickly put his bowl in the sink, grabbed his bag, and rushed outside, hearing his mother's laugh coming from behind the door.
As he made his way towards the town, he could recall how his parents made money through selling herbs, nuts, and other items from the forest. With that in mind, he would pick up whatever he could recall had value or might have value along the way, filling his backpack to the brim.
He could feel the weight from the now filled backpack as some of the items he picked up were heavier in nature, such as pretty crystalized rocks that sold for a pretty penny. The only thing he should've remembered is why his dad was the only one selling items.
His white hair would make it extremely difficult for anyone to purchase from him and as that thought passed his mind, he cursed himself for forgetting that little tidbit that would make all the difference.
He groaned, noticing how close the town, Alba was. He wanted to smack his head on the closest tree trunk. The town was only 20 minutes from where he lived so he could go back, but he was already here.
With a sigh, he sprinted back towards his home, knowing that he'd be unable to purchase anything if he didn't wear a hoodie of sorts.
He opened up the door to his home, rushed upstairs and grabbed a sleeveless hoodie, before sprinting right back out.
His mother, who noticed the whole scene, just wistfully sighed and went back to fixing up her fridge which had been behaving oddly.
Evan could feel the burn in his legs from all the running he had just done but, on the bright side, he was back again at the edge of the forest, spotting the entrance to the town directly in front of him. He slipped on the hoodie and calmly walked towards the entrance, hoping everything would be fine.
Oh, he should really stop jinxing himself.
