Lija POV
"It has been a bit of struggle lately. Besides her adorable ears being extremely sensitive to noise, she tends to sleep on a reverse schedule. She sleeps nearly all day unless she is hungry, and at night she wiggles around making the cutest little yipping and cooing noises." I say with the biggest grin on my face thinking how precious she is.
"Well she sounds like most other babies minus the fact she doesn't cry a lot." Inari says back then drinking some tea
This is the first time I have had the opportunity to get to see her since she got back. First there where the changes learning how to cope with Ylfa, not to mention the fact that we were trying to figure out what to do now that Fannar lost a leg essentially.
"Well she has her own problems. It took us 2 weeks before we figured out how to deal with her nails, and While they cant hurt us they can still hurt her. I really was just hoping I could treat them like mine but she hates sensing any kind of energy. Every time I would try she starts screaming and thrashing about like crazy. The first couple of times I tried her reaction scared the crap out of me." I sigh out remembering these events.
"Why are her nails so dangerous, doesn't she have a stone sage body. I mean I do remember right after you yelled at fanner she ripped her blanket apart."
"Sigh. Well after Fannar got his tools out we found that her finger nails are as strong as mid rank 2 materials."
"That is ridiculous wouldn't all of her clothes and bedding need to be grade 3 or higher materials at this rate." Inari says with a shocked look on her face.
"It is true, her clothes bedding and toys are all grade 3 or 4 materials. He even made a full set of grade 5 bone steel implements to trim and file her nails in full Fannar fashion. He did a luxury set and engraved scenes of fighting giants and beasts on all of them. I am absolutely sure If I had not refused his request he would have used grade 7 frost bone steel."
"what a dotting father. Speaking of the father, why hasn't he grown a new leg yet?" Inari asks puzzled
"That FOOL!" I shout slamming my hand into the table. So angry for him once again acting like a prideful oaf. This is of course immediately followed by a screaming baby. Guess I might as well go show off my precious since she is awake.
"Come on auntie Ini. I am positive you want to hold her. Right." I poke her seeing her blush a bit at being called an aunt. The girl is four months old now and starting to show signs of wanting to crawl around. She is definitely strong enough, she just lacks coordination and balance. I loop my arm through hers and drag her to the back of the house where she was sleeping.
Upon seeing us peer over the edge of the crib she stops yelling and smiles at us while holding her feet. Her ears were straight up like she was alert listening for something, seeing us they turned slightly to the sides like she was searching for something before they relaxed. The one on the left always looks slightly floppy when she does this just making the cuteness rating break the gauge.
"The gods really favor this one. Every heart will melt at the site of her and I'm sure earth clan would break the heavens and sunder the earth if anyone dare hurt her." Inari says with a grin from ear to ear and eyes wide in astonishment.
"Sure hearts will melt and every boy in the realm will want to marry the lass but how many can get her father to agree." I say while picking her up and handing her to Inari. After she gets to hold her and feels the girls hair she shows even more surprise.
"yep her hair even now that it reaches her shoulders is as soft as puppy fur. Just be careful of her ears so she doesn't bite you." I say hoping to save my friend from irritating the girl. But just as the words had left my mouth it stays open in shock as she is already scratching around her ears to the sheer contentment of the girl in question.
"My family use to raise demon beasts there is a trick to it otherwise how could we possible form bonds with them at an early age. Look just do it like this" she says showing me the trick.
After learning the new method I proceed to scratch around her ears followed by rubbing and massaging them and back to scratching. Next thing you know she is asleep and drooling.
"so what was Fannar's deal again?" Inari asks.
"he is adamant about not fixing it for the foreseeable future." I say gritting my teeth trying not to go rage mode again. "he says that with his leg gone they cant make him leave until it is healed, so why would he do something like that." I say with both frustration and a trace caring in my tone.
Sure he is an idiot for not taking care of himself but at the same time admirable that he would go so far just to stay with the two of us. Speaking of the two of us, I give an evil grin the poor girl holding a baby unable to flee.
"It has been a few years how is your boyfriend?" I ask smirking at knowing she was always single in the first place. Watching the shocked look come over her face as she stutters to make up some excuse.
"Its ok you can just say no. I'm sure you much prefer auntie to mommy anyways ha ha ha." I have been trying to bring this girl into the family for more than twenty years. I Know she has a crush on me, she is also like a sister. In a world of immortality where you either spend your years in solitude or find people to share it with, who wants to be alone.
"Besides I can still adopt you into the family as a blood sister, you just never make up your mind." Seeing her full on face flush. I never really understood the restrictions other realms have on relationships. Yeah even in our realm most relationships have men in charge but the powerful always set their own rules. The big thing the clans care for is reproduction as with all the wars we have on all fronts the loss of life is staggering. If not for those with shorter lifespans having more children I'm sure the realm would be near empty at this point. Seeing I have no plans to let off this time she lets out a sigh.
"You win. I surrender to your exception ability to trap your prey. Ill agree to whatever you decide its not like I am a child under a hundred anymore. I pretty much figured you want your girl to have a sibling anyways." She says resigned in defeat.
"Perfect! We can finally raise your status in the clans." I only cared that she had better protection and wasn't alone anymore. The girl pretty much lives in the forest. While she had elevated her position in our bear clan in the over all position of earth clan, many still see her as an outsider. It was time that she had a status befitting everything she has done for the clan.
Looking back at Ylfa I only hope she stays kind, but I know the world is not a kind place.
