Chapter 3 - Unspoken Goals And A Book

"Why is it so busy?" Sin cut off the blabbering man.

"Eastern sect is recruiting of course! You should join the fun, you look about the age for recruitment."

Sin tilted his head, how could he possibly look the age? "How old do I look?"

The man turned his way, inspecting him as a chef would to food, "Early twenties." He gruffly exasperated before settling his wagon at the side of the road. "Alright get off now I've taken you to the city as you've wanted."

He made it sound as if he did a favor to Sin.

He left anyway needing to find an inn before their full for the night. As he searched he found several but not within his budget after being practically ripped from his wealth from one merchant swindler. He managed to find one with a view of the wall that surrounded the city with three coppers per night. The place was clearly old and the bed only had a mattress and blanket but it would have to do.

Sin left his stuff and prepared for a day of shopping. He needed a spatial bag for easy travel, today since the sect was here he got a good deal on a decent one. It was about the width of a small tea room and appeared as a small leather satchel, it could be easily hidden on the inside of one's robes.

Sin did have a spatial bag in his last life, in fact, he had much more wealth but upon waking up he didn't have the things he should have had. He was in his late forties but now appeared to be in his early twenties. It was a big difference.

Today he was proven his fears, ribbons and decorations depict 26 years in the past, the start of a new year. But is now the present.

His blue eyes reflected a much wiser man. He had a thin frame, even when he cultivated he still was leaner, he fooled a lot of people with that appearance. In the past he could rip trees from the ground now he could probably pull some grass.

Even though it's frustrating he must start anew on his path in cultivation, with this journey he will grow stronger. Much more than he ever was in the past. Sin carefully tucked the spatial bag into his robes and strolled back to the rotting inn. But something captured him.

A small shop with no name wedged in between two buildings sat in an illusion of calm. Sin felt that shop hadn't been there the last he took the path and with sudden interest peeked inside. A bell dinged and its contents looked antique. A small subtle tug inside had him almost hypnotized and his feet thudded lightly on wooden planks to the very back of the store. A cloud of dust flew with every step. Shelves were stacked with trinkets and pottery but he seemed to be going to one specific location. Finally, his feet stopped and he snapped out of his stupor.

A book, Sin realized. It had not a trace of dust and made an odd appearance. It was thick with pages, the cover was black with a burgundy colored tassel sprawled along the empty cover. Sin swept a hand over it feeling the hardcover that beat a wave of something he could only describe as power.

"Hello," an elder lady kindly welcomed. Sin flinched not noticing the woman and quickly took his hand away from the book. "Hello," he greeted back with a bow.

"Are you interested in that book?" She pointed, her voice so old it was forced in a croak.

Sin looked at the book again and shook his head no, "Not quite..."

"Well I think it's interested in you," she smiled and held both hands to her cane. Sin adorned an oblivious look and after a few moments asked, "How much is it?"

"Free for a new customer!" She waved her hand and chuckled, the sound not pleasant to the ears. Sin frowned and picked the book up, the lady began to suddenly become panicked. She waved her hand more in a shooing motion and before Sin knew it he was outside and in the streets. It was so quiet in the shop he realized she must have a talisman to keep sound out.

He looked down at the book and stuffed it into his spatial bag. Who would say no to free things anyway? He turned around to see if he can find any name he missed on the shop. But what he turned to was an ally with nothing resembling the shop in sight.

Sin doesn't usually become creeped but now he wondered if he had been cursed or somehow scammed again. He thinned his lips and erased the uncomfortable bad premonitions coming his way as this time he didn't get distracted returning to the inn.

At the inn, he gathered his belongings and stuffed them into his spatial bag. His stomach growled with need and he had forgotten he couldn't stifle hunger with how low his cultivation was. He paid for a meal at the inn and at the wooden table couldn't find any peace in the beginning. The people here were rowdy and if not careful could probably become a victim to a thief.

He gently blew on potato broth and sipped the savory meal with a metal spoon. Even if it was loud in the dining room he found his own harmony after a while with the food he was given and created a bubble of apathy for his surroundings.

Having not forgotten the book he took it out of the spatial bag upon his bed after the meal. He noticed now in better lighting there appeared to be a lining of gold at its corners. With no whims Sin opened the hardcover.

Black bold words inked like a twinkling mirage prior to settling down. Sin narrowed his eyes at the words that were shown.

'Spiritual Sense' was the fierce title, below it was a description.

"Spiritual sense allows the user to discern any hostility such as bloodlust and predators at his/her dispense. Attacks targeted and executed at the ability holder could be easily avoided.

Only ones putting themselves in extreme danger for a long period of time will gain this ability."

Appearing as a tiger and leaving as a whisper. That's the feeling Sin got from the pages when he flipped through the others that were void of anything, blank. What he was left with was all he got.

Even though the rest dissatisfied he still somehow liked the promising description that had nerved his blood, he was excited.
