Chapter 6 - Unexpected

Cassidy's POV:

I leaned my chair back watching him trying to get behind my steering wheel. Moving my seat back to fit his long legs, it was like watching a shrine get in a shrine car. I giggled when his knees were still touching the steering column. "This is why I drive trucks," he says.

"I don't know it kinda suits ya, plus you'll be able ta see if anyone runs out in front," I laugh out.

A smile sprawls across his face an he turns his head ta look out the window. "Yer not gonna let that go, are ya," he asked.

"Hmhm, depends," I say.

"On what," he asks.

"Mmmm, tha company I'm with," I answered.

His smile got bigger an I put a  song on. Hell on heels by Pistol Annies, I sang it with them knowing he loved my voice an all. After today I really didn't care what anyone thought, I was done givin a shit. My mom could shove it, an so could anyone else in town.

He pulled into tha gas station on the outskirts, and parked. "I'll be right back, just grabbin smokes," he said.

"Oh that's a good idea," I said an opened the ashtray.

My dad, I shook my head, two hundred dollar bills, two fifty's, two twenty's, four or five ten's and a hand full of fives. "What do ya smoke," he asked.

"Cigarettellos" I said.

"Yuck," he said.

Before I could give him money, he closed the door. He walked towards the gas station and a tap sounded on my window. I looked over to see Clay standing there, so I rolled the window down. "Hey Clay," I said.

"Hey Cass ya goin somewhere," he asked seeing the stuff in tha back seat.

"Ya, I am, I need time away," I said.

"I see, an, yer goin with someone or, just sitting in the passenger side fer map reading purposes," he asked.

Ryan walked outta the gas station walking ta wards the car. "Huuu, Cassidy he's not the right guy ta be hangin out with," Clay says bending over closer.

I frowned looking over at Ryan, "whys that sheriff, can't be any worse than my ex, by tha way is he still livin," I asked.

"Still in the hospital and stable," he said.

"Hm, he shoulda hit em harder," I said.

Ryan reached the car an stopped seeing Clay leaning against the door on my side. He opened the drivers door and got in as best he could. Setting the smokes down in the centre console and looked over at Clay. "Evenin officer is there a problem," Ryan asked.

I looked at him his face hard and poker faced, then I looked back at Clay who's face went the same way. Talk about pissing match, gees men, why are they all like this. Clay moved his tongue over his top teeth and clicked it, "nope, just havin a conversation with Cassidy," he said.

I frowned and looked back at Ryan, "well, if there's no other reason, will be going now" Ryan said as he put the car in drive

"Cassidy call me if ya need anything ok," Clay stated.

"She'll be fine deputy," Ryan said in a growling manor.

"Cassidy," Clay said, nodding at me.

"Uh huh," I said slowly, confused.

Ryan rolled his eyes and started ta drive off, leaving Clay standing there with his hands on his hip an gun. He was shaking his head which made me wonder even more what happened in the jail. I pulled my seatbelt on and put my feet back on the dash.

"What was that all about," I asked.

"Nothin," Ryan said grumpy.

"Ryan, you two were havin a pissing match back there what the hell," I said.

"Seems the deputy has a bit of a crush on ya, an he threatened me, told me I was on tha wrong side of tha bars," he said.

I raised my eyebrows at him an he peeked over at me. "He don't like me, cause I got yer attention an he didn't" he said.

"Really, did ya" I asked lowering one eyebrow.

He smirked an looked back at the road, "well I did almost kill ya so, ya, I got it" he chuckled.

"Hmhm, you said it not me" I laughed.

"Now it all depends on how long I can keep yer attention" he says.

I smirk grabbing my sunglasses and put them on, "I guess so" I say.

I turn on cowboy take me away by the Dixie Chicks and started ta sing to it. He looked over at me and smiled, that's when I knew this was gonna be exactly what I needed.

Ryan's POV:

That ass hole can go ta hell I thought as we pulled away. Just cause I've been in shit before don't mean ta say I'm gonna do it again. Tha only reason I hit that fuck tard on tha head was cause he was tryin ta rape Cassidy. I did nothin wrong, woulda been no different if I were to have kicked tha shit outta him. But then again I probably woulda killed him.

I looked over at Cassidy who was singing and smiled at her. Hm, take her away huh, alright that's exactly what I plan then. I looked back at tha open highway the wind blowing threw the car her hair all over. Her voice taking me away, thinking about how when I get her home. I could take her riding horses, or take her out on the gator an go fishing, or white water rafting.

We could go swimming, or I could take her ta town an show her where I grew up. Hm, tha possibility's were all there just depended on what she wanted. We could even go hiking up tha mountain, set up camp an watch tha sun set. The more I thought the more I figured that she'd want something slow but wild. Something ta take her mind off everything, an of corse my momma would wanna meet her.

I looked over at her again as she sang the next song. Wide open spaces, hm, that I can do, I'll take er up on tha mountain. Perfect, I thought lookin back at tha road. Hmmm I can do that, I can be romantic, I think lookin back at tha road. That's the plan anyway, maybe she'll open up ta me.

She looked over at me an I looked back at her, "so, why would, Clay say that yer not tha right guy ta be hangin out with" she asks.

I smirk an look back at the road, "he don't like me" I said.

"Come on Ryan answer my question, I know there's more, Clay's been a cop fer over 7 years now, a good one" she said.

"Huuu, I have a couple priers, not overly huge jus, they figured I was ta blame fer my dads death an I beat tha shit outta tha guy that actually did it, plus I mean, disturbing tha peace, speeding tickets stuff like that" I explained.

She sat quietly for a bit after that, pondering what I just shared with her. I looked over at her, an she was starting out the window. She then reached over with her hand an took mine that was sitting on my thigh. Leaning over on my shoulder. "Thank ya, fer bein truthful with me," she said squeezing my hand.

I wasn't sure what ta say to her, I was surprised she wasn't tellin me ta take her home. Which is what I woulda done. She wasn't seeming ta mind at all, she was ok with it. Which was weird, really weird, most girls run when they find out.

We reached the junction of the highway to Belgrade or turn to the ranch I grew up on. Her fingers running over the veins of my hand making me shiver as I slow the car to turn. She leaned up her head looking around, taking in her surroundings. The sine says Brixton Ranch 5 miles south, an she lays her head back on my arm.

My nerves playing on me as we turn off feeling anxious about her meeting my mom. "Hey Cassidy," I say

"Hmm," she says still rubbing my hand.

"When ya meet my mom, um," I start and she looks up at me.

"Huuuu, she's in a wheelchair so," I sort of finish.

"I don't judge Ryan," she says.

"She used to uh, barrel race, till one day the horse fell an rolled over her," I explained.

"Mmm, crap," she says, leaning her head back down.

"Huuu, ya," I breath out.

The road turns and winds over hills, an I finally see the big sine saying Brixton Ranch next left, Home of 4 time barrel race champ Darlene and 6 time gold buckle bull rider Grant Brixton, sons Jason and Ryan, welcome you, home of peace and tranquility.

I start slowing down and she sits up reading the sine most likely. Her eyes glaze over as the faded board reflects in her eyes. I move my hand and hold hers squeezing it. Turn the corner pull onta the lane.

She sits up still holding my hand watching through the trees as the yard comes into view in tha valley. "Huuuu, my god Ryan, it's breath takin," she breaths out.

She watches every detail of land as we drive down to tha gate. I stop just in front of them and the speaker comes on with mommas voice. "Hey y'all welcome ta tha ranch state yer business," she says.

"Ma, it's me let me in," I say with a smile.

"Ryan, yer back early," she says.

"Ma, open tha gate please," I say.

A buzzing noise sounds and tha gates open, I drive the car threw an it try's ta close. I look over at Cassidy who's smirking ear ta ear. Roll my eyes an stop the car, putting it in park. Jump out and walk back to tha box an kick it. It still don't wanna close so I look over at the tires on the gate an shake my head. "Huuuuuuu, fer god sake," I breath out.

I walk over to the one and start pushing the flat tire bumping along, then the same with the other till there closed. Walk to tha car and get in as Cassidy sits giggling at me. "Flat tires, think they may need air," she says.

"I'll give you air," I groan at her.

"Hmhmhm, oh that's a good idea put yer lips on em, hot air shouldn't hurt," she laughs out.

"Oh you," I say.

Poking her side with my finger an she bursts out giggling so I continue. Tears from laughing so hard run down her cheeks an she swats at my hands. "S, S, Stop RYAN," she yells.

"Haha," I laugh.

She reaches over going to poke me but my hand makes her hand fly in my lap. Her belt undone she's close enough so I kiss her, and she falls over into my lap. Her arms fly up around my neck and mine grip her side and hip.

I trail my hand up her back under her shirt, and she groans. I take that as enjoyment and move farther up, but she backs away. "Uh, huuuuuu, yer mom, she's waiting fer us," she says.

I take a deep breath feeling the heat of her touch, and her sitting in my lap. "Huuuuuuuuuu, yeah," I say.

I help her back into her seat and calm my breathing and heart beat. I look over at her and her tongue runs over her bottom lip pulling it in. She looks at me pulling it out, "what," she says.

She looks out the window again, "nothin," I say.

She looks back at me and nods her head sideways to the yard and I smile at her shaking my head. Put the car in drive and continued down the lane
