Chereads / Twice the Alpha / Chapter 18 - Masters of Deception

Chapter 18 - Masters of Deception

Scarlett wasn't surprised her son manage to retrieve a piece of DNA from their target, what was most important was how she was going to use it. Appearing in her hand— an ancient map of the Great Continent —Scarlett hovered southeast over the map towards the continent Durandal before placing the strand of hair above it. She mumbled a few indiscernible locutions when the stand of hair began moving back and forth on Durandals' continent then stopped— it stopped at a very remote location on the map. Generally speaking the location has never been touched for centuries. This uprose the question, "What's out there?" They were soon to find there answer.

Scarlett and Freidich began preparing for a trip to the location in which the old man decide he'd stay back and watch over the fort, who knows what might happen. The idea was safe so Freidich and Scarlett went with it. The next problem was how to get there where Freidich would immediately suggest taking them there in wolf form.

Traveling northwest there were a few places Scarlett and Freidich had to maneuver before making it to their destination. Places such as 'The Wild Woods' and 'Abroracom Tomb' had to be avoided due to the mass of supernatural entities within the area. To make the trip faster Freidich took a reroute through Timmy Turns where they were faced with the unseen danger— Skin-walkers. It took little time for Freidich to savagely discard of their foes meantime Scarlett read the map for further directions. She noticed their journey's end was a mile away when she told Freidich 'hurry it up'.

At the end of the trail they exited a forest that opened up to this massive abandon ruin, kind of like ancient times. Looking around it was obvious no one was in the clear. Scarlett got off Freidich who maintained his wolf form. And before she could take a step towards the stone tiles ahead a telepathic message said 'Wait, someone's here'.

EXT. Cabin

Back at the cabin the old man sat at the table with a newspaper in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other.

"Werewolves, werewolves, werewolves, every DAMN page is about werewolves. What about the witches or the vampires? With everything that's happening you'd think they'd be active but they're oddly quiet. Something tells me from here on out it's gonna get noisy.'

— The Old Man to himself

And just when the old man finished he heads the spud of approaching footsteps before they made it to the door. Setting aside the newspaper and coffee the old man anxiously walked over to the door. When he opened it he was met with an unfamiliar face— Heller — but he didn't know who he was.

"Are you lost son? Do you need directions?"

— The Old Man to Heller

"(Smiles) Heller greets the Old King's right hand man."

— Heller to The Old Man

"(Shocked) you...who are you?"

— The Old Man to Heller

"(Eyes flashes) let me in, we have much to discuss."

— Heller to The Old Man

"Come in and take a seat. I'm intrigued as to whom knows of my identity.

— The Old Man to Heller

"(Takes a seat at the table) come on, (gestures) sit down. I promise I won't bite."

— Heller to The Old Man

"(I'll be the judge of that) so Heller is it? (The old man acts dumbfounded) What brings you here...to my domain."

— The Old Man to Heller

"Straight to the point...I like you. I'm actually here to speak with you, right-hand of the Old King."

— Heller to The Old Man

"Hm, it seems you know more than you should. Mind telling me what business you have...with me."

— The Old Man to Heller

"If only it were that simple. But let me start with a question, how does taking the position of The Old King sounds to you?"

— Heller to The Old Man

"(What is this...position of the Old King) if you are who you truly are we both know that's impossible. The Old Wold we once knew who rules this continent is long gone."

— The Old Man to Heller

"You're as dumb as they come of thats what you think. Don't you see it! That boy is the Old Wolf and the person behind these 'coincidently' events knows this all too well."

— Heller to The Old Man

"(What...did I hear that correctly?) So you're telling me either one of two things: the Old Wolf somehow is alive and lives through the boy and that you know the perpetrator/s that decimated HIS pack. Don't fuck with me young man."

— The Old Man to Heller

"(Shrugs) I kid you not. What is said is a fact. Honestly, I'll say this, 'Basilisk' that's who you should really be looking for."

— Heller to The Old Man

"(Basilisk! Does he mean...oh I see. Then that means they're active again and that explains how he knows of me) But what of the position...how does that fold into play?"

— The Old Man to himself then Heller

"Simply because that boys potential is far greater that either of us can imagine; his goal is beyond our reach. A trivial position such as 'Old King' is just a stepping-stone in his milestone. He won't take it."

— Heller to The Old Man

"(If this is true...I've been homing a monster under my roof this entire time. But at least my hunch was right, he brought good fortune) I'm sure an offer such as this doesn't come without a price."

— The Old Man to Heller

Heller smiled.

EXT. Fargoth Ruins

At the ruins, Freidich and Scarlett were on edge, patiently waiting for the perpetrator to reveal themselves. Off in the far distance, behind this large runic-stone with ineligible inscriptions—another wolf appeared. But behind it's facade transformation, Freidich's trained-eyes picked up on a familiar face. He pounced off ahead of his mother after telepathically telling her to 'stay back, I know this wolf.'

Ian? But what is he doing here? And where's Heller? Do the two know each other? All questions, no answers.

I walked up on the wolf and we had a stare down before we both began circling each other.

"(Telepathically) Ian (I noticed his Grimcrest insignia above his front paw) I never expected to see you here? And to be a member of Grimcrest."

— I to Ian

"(Telepathically) Grimcrest was my only family, they took me in when I just a lost cause. But you didn't know that did you...when you erased them from this world."

— Ian to I

What!?

"Grimcrest was more to me than you can imagine. Don't assume you know what your talking about when you don't. I didn't kill Grimcrest, someone else did."

— I to Ian

Goddammit Ian. After everything we've been through now's the time you decide to distrust me?

"(Ian stopped) I beg your pardon? Rumor has it that an alpha of enormous power decimated a pack. I only know one Alpha."

— Ian to I

"Bullshit! You just going around believing anything and anyone. Why don't you do some digging on your own evidence before coming to a conclusion. That's what I'm trying to do now."

— I to Ian

"(What's he trying to say? That he truly didn't do it. Then was this my mistake for believing misinformation?) Now you got me confused, (cold stare) who killed them?"

— Ian to I

"(Snarls) be a wolf and help me find that out instead of running around on someone's terms like a lost sheep."

— I to Ian

As I turned away from Ian to my mother, who think that short moment he attacked. When I tell you I sit him down, I sit his ass down; my fangs burrowed around his neck, basically saying—

Know your place.

After recognizing submission, I released him and pounced over to mother.

"(Sniff) Let's go, there's nothing here."

— I to Mother

"(Looks to Ian) and him?"

— Mother to I

"Don't worry, we're taking him back with us. The situation isn't sorted out yet. I also wonder how the old man's holding up."

— I to Mother

"I guess you're right. Let's go shall we?"

EXT. Cabin

Arriving at the cabin after experiencing the longest journey-back ever, was the old man at the edge of the porch. He was seemingly unmoved by their presence, expecting them to come back empty-handed but when he saw mother body he knew there was more to the story. When they all gathered at the porch, they informed the old man that Heller wasn't there and the old mana response.

"...Because he was here."

— The Old Man to Freidich and Scarlett

"What!!?"
