Chapter 66 - CHAPTER SIXTY SIX

LOGAN'S POV

Cradling Jamie in my arms as she slept, my mind kept running to the conversation she was having with her brother earlier about their finances and their sister.

Jamie got a larger salary than any other photographer contracted to our company and I never wondered about her expenditures before, but for the first time I am now wondering how she spent her money. I already called in a regular PI who works for me to check out their accounts because Jamie seemed concerned about money as she's not employed.

I'm not sure, but I am positive that her salary has been running, so where is it going? During the months that we dated she never asked for anything and always stopped me from overspending on her. Most times we ate at her home and when we ate at my apartment, I order take out, so she spent more time with me and less in the kitchen.

I did observe that when I followed her to a photoshoot in Bali a few months ago. she didn't go shopping like the other crew members. She excused herself, feigning tiredness. There were absolutely no extra spending and she still did private gigs, pulling Jerome along as much as possible.

As my wife, she is privy to everything that I own, so I will draw up the necessary papers tomorrow when I get to the office. She asked mom earlier if there is anything that she can do jobwise in her condition. Mom was surprise but brush it off by telling her that she'll see what she could do.

As Jamie stirs in my arms, I realize that I haven't slept a wink since early this morning and sleep is far from my mind. I have to meet dad in the morning before work and Jamie doesn't want me interacting with her sister.

Grandfather has gotten himself in a tuff war and used me as collateral without notifying me, which cause me to elope with Jamie, behind his back although the last thing I expected was for him to put a hit on her.

Unknown to Jamie, dad and I have set up camp around the perimeters of this compound and we have men scattered around. I know that she will eventually realize what is going on when she sees the traffic of people passing through here.

"You need your beauty sleep" Jamie mutters, pushing her head under my arm.

Wrapping my other arm around her, hugging her. "what do you miss the most as you're pregnant?" I asked, with my chin resting on her head.

Without thinking twice, "alcohol" she responded instantly.

I started laughing uncontrollably, "and here I am thinking it was sex" I continued to laugh at he response.

Lifting her head slightly, "Gosh Logan, I can't wait to sip a beer when my baby is born." Jamie says sadly.

"I'm buying your favourite bottle of wine tomorrow and we're putting it away until our baby is five" I told her and she frowns.

Looking curious, "why five?" she tilts her neck to see me better.

Trying to think about the most sensible answer, "I think that I heard that you can nurse a baby up until she's five" I said confident with my response.

Resting her head back under my arm, "I'm not sure if that will be possible in my case" she says softly.

I never asked how she felt when she heard she was pregnant and decided to keep the baby, "Jamie, what was it like when you awoke in the hospital?" I ask nervously.

"I woke up screaming your name. Jer and Jess were in the room with me and they told me that your were in another ward and that you were resting also. But I was afraid and still cried for you.

"

"It wasn't until your mom came and convince me that you were unconscious but stable that I relax a little because you're her baby and she won't be so calm if you were in danger." her body tensing as she speaks,

She was silent for a while before she continued softly, "it was only when I relax that I started to feel the pain. The doctors told mom that they were giving me medication for the pain but I had a bullet that went under my spine that they need to go back in for because they missed it the first time." she continues, her voice wavering. "You save me that day you know. You saved me" she started crying in my arms, as she remembers and I just did the only thing I could do, comfort her.

Jamie didn't say anything again and I didn't ask but she did have a restless night and I stayed awake because I was worried about her.

Jamie and I had breakfast with the family before I went back to work at the firm before finishing my day at the fashion house with my dad who also returned to the office.

After signing off the documents on the last case I worked on, I went to meet the partners at a board meeting.

We were all seated and I felt as if I'm being interviewed for a job or maybe it's a dismissal from the firm.

Mr. Garrette the senior partner and the scariest of the rest for the first time had a soft emotion in his eyes "So Logan, how are you feeling?" he asks, looking at the other partners as he spoke.

Straightening in my seat, "I've been better" I admitted, chuckling dryly and I wonder what the f**k is going on here.

Sinclair, started tapping his pen of the glass table, "are you ready to come back to work"? he asks.

I know something is up because Sinclair don't beat around with pleasantries.

"What?" I asked

Garrette looked at Sinclair and Lloyd then back to me, "your grandfather wants to retain you as his lawyer in a small custody case"
