Chapter 41 - CHAPTER FORTY ONE

LOGAN'S POV

How much have they kept from me. I need to know what happened to Jamie. I need to get my ass of this f***ing chair and go upstairs to see my wife.

But .... As weak as I am, there's some where else that I need to be.

I got up angrily, tilting the chair backwards, moving to go pass my mother, who grabs my arm, tightly.

"Don't son, please" my mother pleads, I didn't meet her eyes, as I kept my eyes straight ahead.

Justin stood at the side entrance of the dining room, watching on with a dark questioning look. I raised my eyebrows and he nods in understanding, walking out waiting for me to follow after him.

Taking my other hand, I held the hand my mother had on me, without looking at her, I removed her hand, pushing it away as gently as I could and continued, walking out the dining room to meet Justin.

"Logan, Jamie's waiting upstairs for you" she says following me.

I couldn't answer because I had one thing on my mind right now and visiting Jamie would weaken me. She's my only weakness and I have a duty to fulfill, to Tony, Chris and my mentor and friend, Stanley.

"Logan sweetheart, she hasn't had her breakfast yet and it's already after lunch. Don't leave yet, please" my mother pleads turn into cries.

I stopped in my tracks for a moment, but only for a moment, before continuing out the door, into the passenger seat of my waiting vehicle.

As Justin sped away, I see my mother crumpled on the driveway and my father, attempting to lift her up with both their eyes on my SUV, as I stared at them through the passenger side mirror.

The physical pain in my back and neck seems insignificant compared to the pain in my chest. Everything that I have learnt in the hours since I awoke from my coma didn't prepare me for Jamie's injuries, making me more determine to eliminate the traitors and the threats.

"What happened to her?" I asked Justin, staring straight ahead.

Without looking at me he changes gears, "that's a conversation you need to have with her" Justin replied in a firm, no nonsense tone.

It was only then that I turn to look at him, Justin my best friend from kindergarten days. He cried openly when he returned with his coffee and saw me awake in the hospital.

It was the first time I saw my friend cry as I drank his coffee .He relayed everything that he knew about my accident and what he didn't say is what he didn't know.

I turned my attention back to the road, recalling the accident.

It was definitely an ambush, but all of the gunmen were on the right side of the road, the side where Jamie and Stanley sat. The same side where the two drivers of the vehicles in the back and front of us sat.

Jamie survived because I pushed her aside, throwing my body over hers, but I wasn't fast enough, they still got her

My past is back and it is evident that someone brought it back on my doorstep, but I have absolutely no intention of opening the door to entertain it.

Leaning my head back, closing my eyes. Jamie. I remember her cries and screams at the accident but I couldn't console her. I stretched out my arms but couldn't touch her.

She screamed for the paramedics to help me and to help Stanley first, the memories from that eventful day returns like a tsunami wave crashing into me, bringing death and destruction in it's path.

"F**k, she was hit but she made the paramedics attend to Stanley and I first." I cry, covering my face with my hands.

Nodding, "what she didn't know, is that Stanley was already dead" Justin's voice sounded void of emotion.

I couldn't stop the tears from flowing silently as I remember the minutes before I slipped into unconsciousness, hearing the paramedics say she's been hit, was the last thing I remember hearing.

"Tell me Justin, how bad is it?" I ask again.

Turning to look at me for the first time since we got back on the road.

"It really isn't my place to discuss this with you." He said, looking back to the road,, "start what you need to start today and we'll return to finish it after attending to your wife.

I can't wait, I have to start it today in order for it to be meaningful, otherwise they will not trust me and their trust is what I need to break every single one of them.

I didn't respond to Justin's suggestion because he is right and I look around as we draw near to where the ambush took place.

Justin said that it was already cleaned before my grandfather's men came on the scene.

They had everyone in place for their plan to be successful, but Jamie is still alive, which means another attack is eminent. This time I'll be ready!

I have to make another decision that will break my heart but I have no choice right now.

" We have to bring in Jerome" I tell Justin.

"Your grandfather already recruited him" Justin informed me and I'm honestly not surprise.

"This is not a bridge I wanted to cross again but here we go" I say as the eagle's iron gates leading to my wife's castle opened before us.

"What's your first move?" Justin asks, as he manoeuvres through the spiral driveway of the estate.

I look as he skillfully handles the twist and turns on the driveway.

"One thing I definitely know, it doesn't matter how bad it gets, the law is not to be involved" I instructed him.

Taking his eyes off the road for a split second, "you need to tell Jamie what's going on" he advises me.

Nodding, "I know, when we get back home."
