Chapter 2 - An Amusing First Day

March 2015,

I walked out of the JFK airport with a huge smile plastered on my face, this is the new beginning for me. As Carrie Bradshaw said in Sex and the city 'Women come to New York to find two L' s: Love and Label' that is what I am here to find. As the cab drove me towards my new apartment to the upper west side, I gazed at the streets in admiration realising how happy I feel. The apartment was exactly how I had seen in the pictures, I dropped my bag and dropped a text to my mom informing her of my arrival and thanking her for sending my stuff. After few hours of unpacking I got bored and felt lonely so I decided to go out for drinks. It was Saturday today and I didn't have any job interview until Monday so I have still got a lot of time to decorate the house. I took a shower and wore a short red dress which is not provocative yet comfortable enough to stay out late. I googled the best pub in town and called a cab to go there. I reached the pub and walked inside scanning the crowd, I let out a breath of relief seeing decent amount of crowd. I took a seat at the high chair by the bar counter. After waiting for couple of mins and looking around, a bartender in his late twenties walked over to me, "New here?" my lips curled up in a smile with surprise, "Yes, how do you know?" he chuckled softly and leaned on the counter towards, "After working as a bartender for two years you can tell that by just looking at the person." I chuckled "You are quite right, I just moved to NY". He smiled "Welcome to New York, what I can get for you today?" I replied with a smile plastered on my face, "A Balcones' on the rocks please!" He smiled and pulled a glass, poured me the drink and slid it towards me. I pulled out a 20 dollar bill but he refused saying 'this one's on the house'. I thanked him and took a sip of the drink, the burning sensation made me feel better. I turned my chair towards the crowd and observed people in the pub, I noticed two couples on the corner table. I observed them for awhile. Judging by their body language on their faces I can tell that the two women were best friends and one of them was shy and the other one had a loud personality, she was the only one chatting on the table. After I finished my drink I turned towards the cute bartender I was talking to earlier asking for another drink and he handed me the drink right aways, turns out the other drink was from a guy sitting on one of the table with a group of hot guys. My eyes landed on the double date table and one of the guy had a really weird expression on his face, he was checking out a girl on other table from the corner of his eye. The girls excused the table and went towards the ladies' room, the moment those two girls disappeared the guy got up from his seat and made his move towards the girl he was checking out. My lips curled up in a devilish smirk 'Now this just got interesting', I called for one of the women waiting the tables and handed her a note written on paper napkin and asked it to deliver to a woman in the washroom to which she politely left with a nod. I continued my focus on him, the man's hands were roaming on the blondie's waist, his tongue was down her throat, moments passed and there was a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see the intruder just then she raised her hand and slapped him hard. I watched them with amusement as the woman slapped the man-hoe repeatedly screaming and crying. I bursted in to laughter diverting all the attention to me, that was the time I realised the music had stopped. Bitting the inside of my cheek. I turned to the bartender who was looking at me with amusement as I asked, "Does this happen everyday?" He nodded to my question and then I said, "I should have ordered popcorn, that was quit a show!" he gave me a kind look, "I saw you sending the note, you are nice." I don't let anyone see my kindness, the last time people saw my kindness I was dumped and the ones whom I assumed where my friends, betrayed me. I turned around to see the show and I saw the 'damsel' running out of the pub with tears streaming down her face, her worried friend tailed behind her. The 'man hoe' ignored what happened slipping his hand inside his jacket fishing out his card and gave it to the girl he kissed earlier. I saw him leave the pub while the other guy just stood there still processing the show. I felt bad for the girl so I finished my drink, paid for it and went out to find the woman still crying. I stood behind them while the girl sobbed and rambled about how she was not perfect and blamed herself for the cheating guy. I cleared my throat and both women turned to look towards me, her tears instantly dried up and now she was fuming with anger, "You! you are the one who planned all this, aren't you? It all happened because of you. You-" before she could ramble on more the other woman came forward and pulled her back trying to calm her down. I felt sorry for her, "I don't know him, I was just sitting at bar and I noticed your boyfriend-ex wasn't paying attention to you and eye fucking that woman" they froze on the spot and listened to me intently so I took that as my cue to continue, "the moment you both left the table, the guy started hitting on the girl so I sent you the note so that you could see it for yourself." They both looked at me in surprise and their face had a visible question 'why would you do that?' so I explained "I have been in your end in the past and look no woman deserves to be treated that way. I felt bad and that man really needed to learn a lesson and most importantly you deserve someone who is far more better, don't let a man treat you anything less than what you deserve." The sobbing woman gave me a half smile and before I could process she gave me a tight hug.

The other girl wrapped her arms around us and I covered my shock with a smile. They pulled apart, the girl who just broke up wiped her tears and extended her arm, "I am Patricia, you can call me Patsy." She gestured me towards the other woman, "This is Beth, my best friend". I shook her hand and introduced myself and then next thing I know they're dragging me to bar jump with them. We spent next few hours hopping from one bar to another until we got tired and decided to crash at my new home. While hanging out with them I instantly got a feeling that they're going to be my best friends or maybe not! I am excited to find out.
