Chapter 5 - Memories

His mind reached out, calling to Adum, as he stared at the fire and the young boy just across the flames. Apparently sleeping in peace. Do you wish to know more my friend? The voice asked in Adum's head. "Only if you feel like speaking of such things", he answered back.

A man lit by the moon's light walks with a dagger made of stone approaches a bundle made of what appears as silk and wool. He grabs it from the top and begins to cut, nearly a quarter of the way down a black and shiny spike touches his shoulder and he hears a hiss. " How many times have I done this my love?" The hiss grows louder then softer, "exactly, so I know what I'm doing". He drops the knife to face the Hiss behind him, A massive Black Spider stands before him with one of her eight legs on his shoulder . "If you please my love, our children would like to meet you", He heard one more short hiss and began his cutting again. His stone blade was slow in it's cut however he caught all the eggs that fell from it. eventually he reached the bottom, not entirely cutting all the way through.. The eggs begin to vibrate then break, tiny little spiders black as the moon lit night began to cover his mortal body. Mortal Flesh gave way to fur and he was The Red Wolf , and all the black spots began to retreat to the dark figure beside him when his howl to the shining silvery moon began.

'I would give you another' Adum heard in his head. 'Of the time I killed a god, and conquered eternity'. His eyes once again returned to the boy sleeping across the flames. How they fought to escape him, and he was only there to help. He was quick but, bullets were faster. How they fired and yelled, he could only save one, and so he grabbed Mykel by the collar and tossed him over his shoulder. And now a few miles outside of Porttown by a fire he lays asleep. Such a small boy, he still does not know the power in him yet. Not privy to such things, 'probably for the best' Adum's mind told him. "Go back, tell me about that time", his mind showed him. The red wolf howled until he finished the black spider behind him growled and then she was a beautiful woman with raven black hair and pale skin. Her eyes where dark brown and her lips a pale red the small spiders covering her skin made her happy and she smiled as she approached the still howling red wolf. "My love it is done, only one this time" the red wolf became a young man, a short red beard upon his face, nearly as red as his flesh. A bundle of red hair tied behind his head and a spider nearly up to his knee, with one leg upon his foot and another on his thigh, as if she was begging to know. The sack lay empty, save for a single broken egg, its liquid drained, and his face grew pale as the blood drained from it. He fell to his knees and reached for the broken egg with both hands. A tear fell from his eye as he stared at the egg, for he loved all his children. It began to vibrate and crack in his hands, and he began to smile. The shell broke and a small spider stood on its remains, black and green where its colors. His red beard parted and his teeth shone as he smiled, "Lucus, that is your name. Do you like it?" The small spider began to move in his hands and it reached out for his face. His lips kissed the small thing and it was content, he brought his hands to the lips of his wife and she did the same. "Here meet your sister she is Selene" the tiny thing scurried onto the larger spiders' back before she scurried away in a similar manner. "None" he said when he stood and looked down at her face, before leaning in for a kiss. "You love them then, I will help you to reunite with them".

His mind continued to drift through the thoughts as he stared at the young boy asleep, just across the dancing flames. He struggled with a ram skull, punched and slashed with his blade. He chanced a glance and saw his raven haired beauty shooting arrows across the battlefield and it drove him forward. There behind the host of his army stood the god. In Front of him Selene dashed forward lashing out with her spear and bashing with her shield. Next to her Lucus slashed with his blade and punched ram skulls to dust. He continued to move forward, punching, slashing, and the occasional choking. Ram and Deer skulls fell before him and his children. Behind them a mass of smoke, skulls and dark blue tattered robes remained. It filled him with pride to know his love and children fought beside him, and forward he moved until he reached the end and faced down the god himself. " I've come to kill you....Thul. My father demands glory, then I will give him your head." The god lowered his eyes in knowing, its' writhing mass of tentacles and dark green flesh lashed out and nearly grabbed him. A spear pierced its massive black eye and Lucus dashed forward and buried his blade in its skull. He approached with confidence another son Axiom cutting down tentacles as they dared to lash against his shield and sword. He approached the dying god and placed one hand on his face and the other gripped the hilt of his blade. 'They will avenge me' the mind of the dying god told him "Then we will defeat them as well" was his response before striking the neck of a dying god, flesh and bone and blood parted for his blade. And the head of a dying god fell from his body.

His dark skinned fist clenched even as he continued his sermon. sweat poured from his brow of salt and pepper hair, as he continued to speak and yell his sermon. "For the love of Christ is upon us brothers and sisters, repent and be saved" still his fist remained clenched. He continued speaking of false gods and the one true god of his faith. His speech continued and his fist grew tired, but he would not relinquish his clenched fist. His brown eyes fell to the face of his beloved wife. Her light blonde hair spotted with grey, deep blue eyes and tan skin. He loves her, and that brought a smile to his face as his sermon continued. Soon the sermon was over and the service was as well. "Governor you are needed below", a young man told him. Light brown hair and pale blue eyes with his pale skin, in sharp contrast to his brown suit as he led the Governor down a hall and stairs into a dark room. A sheet of one way glass and on the other side stood a figure with a dark blue tattered robe and the skull of a buck. "Has it said anything else?" "No Governor". "You will all die" it uttered in its soft yet bone chilling voice. His fist gripped tighter and the figure shrank as if a giant hand was around it. "The gods demand it, and I will see it so, you are nothing but invaders". "There is only one god" he responded clenching his fist as tight as he could and the robe and skull fell to the ground in a puff of black smoke. "What is was that thing sir?" "Just a fading memory" he said releasing his hand and watching as it gained color once more. "Burn the robe and smash the skull into powder, toss it into the wind, if we don't it will come back." The memories of the now dead creature still in his mind as he left the room, of what the elves once were before their pact with the gods of death. "No, there is only one god, and I am his right hand".
