Chereads / A Time for Redemption / Chapter 10 - God of Judgement

Chapter 10 - God of Judgement

He paced in his office, the old governor, trying to decide what he had seen. It wasn't even morning yet he could not sleep. His mind raced with the vision of two beams of light, one from the north, the other from the east. The angel spoke of a light but two, it had to mean something. He hesitated at first, and then again, finally deciding against it. Instead opening his book and reading the story of Michael, and Lucifer, written just as the angel recounted it. Two beings caught in an eternal struggle, one made of ice, the other fire. Both were judged for their infighting and strife it caused, the war between themselves and their followers. Each had chosen a side, and received judgement for it. When Lucifer fell from the heavens, a bright light shone in the sky, until he plummeted and fell through the earth. He was told he would see a similar light when it was time, not two. He could try and lie to the angel, or perhaps the angel was wrong. He continued to read story after story of Michael's struggle and eventual redemption of Lucifer. He didn't realize the time until the sun began to shine in his face. Looking up he realized he had to make a decision, delay could mean what the angel promised. With resolve he stood up from the desk and walked out of the door and summoned his driver. He wouldn't have to go far, and yet he couldn't help feeling nervous. He clenched and released his hand a few times, it didn't seem to help. Until he looked at his palm and saw the marks the rose that sat upon his son's grave, gave him. It gave him comfort, and strengthened his resolve, yes it was time. To find another god, and judge them guilty.

He stood before the giant stone door, that led to the angel's lair. He could not open, not as he was, so he reached out with the power in his hand and called forth the power of his god. A massive ghostly hand was laid on the door, and the whole thing began to shake as he struggled to open it. Finally the door gave way and opened. The path was dark so he grabbed a torch from an ancient pot near the door and lit it with a word and a wave of his hand. It was nearly an hour of walking before he reached the central chamber, and couldn't find the angel. He called out "Festus, I have seen a light to the north, and so I have come for council". His words echoed and he stood in silence before his torch went out. A bright light shone from the ceiling as the angel descended. The light dimmed but, didn't go out, All Isaiah Coburn, Governor of Haeven could see were three sets of wings surrounding a bright light. "Speak, and tell me what you have seen, right hand of the father."

"A light to the north, A beam from the heavens to the ground...and to the east, the same light." "It is as you say for I have seen the same light. Take your army and go east, bear this standard and we shall go before you. There are others there that must be judged." " There is more that one?" "Yes, more than two you have found. A great widow and a white wolf, as I have spied for your prophet. However, the sons of the raven and the wolf must come first. Now go right hand of the father, through the disputed land and do not set foot into the waste land just yet." With that, the light faded and his torch reignited and before him a guidon, with a blank red cloth. He pulled it from the ground and started his hour long walk out of the cave.

His convoy had sped throughout the night, since he had seen the beam of light. Or rather two, however the young general decided to push his men toward the closer one. Not so close, they had driven at nearly maximum speed but, he had an idea of where it was. His mind lingered on what it could be. Perhaps it was a weapon of some kind, maybe the Heaven government was ready for another war. It didn't really matter, whatever it was he would find and return to the capital. Maybe it could help against the elves. The small village came into view off in the distance, Evan radioed to the rest of his convoy. They would surround the entire village, he felt a little excited as his vehicle began to slow and others sped past. His vehicle stopped short of the village, and all his men dismounted. He waited for all his men to be in position before he entered the town. Once he got the radio call, he walked in with his six guards. Three on the left and three on the right, looking for snipers on rooftops and peering into windows as they passed. As he walked down the road people going about their day would stop and stare as they passed. Or slowly continue what they where doing, so they could watch as the soldiers passed. The group stopped several times so the general could question the people about the beam of light, no one would answer. It was as if last night's events had never happened. He continued on, this had to be the place. Dust began to kick up, and the day began to grow very hot. A they passed a dank look bar he ordered his men to wait outside. Inside was much cooler, and the presence of less light made it easier on the eyes. He started with the bartender, he knew nothing, a couple of the patrons, they knew nothing. He was on his way out of the door when someone grabbed his arm and twirled him around. She was a rather muscular woman, tall and blonde with a rather strong face. "I'll take you to what you want to see....General. You look a bit young to be a general don't you?" "And you are rather tall and brutish to be a woman, aren't you." The woman only laughed and motioned for him to follow.

A great white light, then nothingness, ADUM's mind couldn't comprehend what had happened. All he saw was nothingness, standing by himself in his hat and trenchcoat. Then he heard a voice, the one he normally heard, except not in his head this time. "Weston", His trenchcoat changed to a uniform, dark blue with polished black boots. He felt his head and his hat was gone, and could only assume ADUM's brown hair and brown eyes and changed to Weston's black hair and green eyes. He heard the voice again, "Weston, can you see me?" " No, its a little bright". " The bright white dimmed to a more manageable tone, and there in front of him was a man with a red beard and hair, clothed in dull steel armour. A greatsword strapped to his left side and a pink cloak attached at his shoulders. "Are we dead?" the man gave a great laugh at this and answered "No". "What is your name? I can't seem to read your thoughts like you can mine". " Erikk, I am the red wolf inside your mind, that is why." "You don't look like much of a wolf." Erikk smiled and an instant later a wolf with red fur large enough to bit him in two stood before him. "This is as I truly am, though I am not the only red wolf" " who is the other?" " My twin sister Erikha". An instant later the giant red wolf was gone, and the ginger man stood before him again. "Why is your cloak pink and not blue or red, maybe white?" " It is the skin of my beloveds mother, a sign of my kill." "why didn't you have it when you showed me the vision of when you killed Thul?" "The death of Thul is why her mother killed her father and threatened everything I love. Nero and Shubb gave her power, thinking they would have revenge, they were mistaken." "And they are?" "Gods" "aren't you a god?" Erikk let out another laugh and answered "No, or rather not as you understand it. We have existed alongside the Gods since the beginning of time. They are immortal, and we are not, just as my father and mother and theirs before them." "Oh, well you will have to tell me all about it but, now we need to figure out what we are doing here, in this place." " In 200 years you have never asked me about home, or my family." "Well having a voice appear inside your head one day....well sorry." "All is good my friend, I even know why we are here. Your body...our body has been badly damaged, I'm try to repair it as best I can." "So I brought us here". Erikk nodded in agreement " The street, the explosion." "Yes some ne'er do wells have currently hid us, and my brother. Though I fear for not much longer, your people have a strange fascination with....currency rather than loyalty." Weston looked down at his hands, he felt the contempt for his people Erikk spoke of. He looked up but, Erikk had already begun to fade away, "Ah, there it is, we will wake up in a moment."

Everything grew dark, then a bit of light and his eyes stared at the ceiling. " The eyes are functional, however the body isn't fully functional. We will not be at full fighting capacity for some time. Now wake my brother and lets get out of here." ADUM sat up slowly, his body had been dragged and left on the floor. He could see the boy sleeping on the bed, he tried to stand and noticed many parts where missing. Mainly chunks of his legs and some of his right hand, he walked over to the mirror and noticed most of the skin on his face and hair had burned off. Touching the exposed metal, the red wolf spoke again in a more anxious tone "get my brother and lets go." A he turned to wake the boy up, he heard a knock at the door. There was not a second, the door exploded inwards knocking him to the ground and soldiers flooded the small room from either side. Before he knew what had happened Ten rifle barrels where pointed at him and Mykel had been tackled and being tied up. "Well, well, well" he heard from the open door. " At Least I now have one of the targets I missed that night, and the traitor." He couldn't see the owner of the voice for the bodies in the way but, he knew who it was. The bodies parted and there stood Evan Rigne, smiling and looking down at him.
