Chereads / Rewrite the Stars [Oikawa Tooru × Reader] / Chapter 4 - New School and Disappointment

Chapter 4 - New School and Disappointment

"First day of school, smile!" Your mother chirped, taking a picture of you and your brother.  Your plain face sat the same. Your lips etched into a straight line. You didn't want to smile. "Fine, (Y/N), fine. Just go," you mother angrily said, shooing you away. You left, beginning to walk towards your new school, trying to not think about it. "(Y/N)-chan~! Wait up!" You heard a voice call out from behind you. You turned around to see your best friends. "Kawa! Haji!" You screamed in excitement, running back towards them, jumping into their arms. "What are you doing here? Aren't you going to Seijoh?" You questioned. "Yeah... but we wanted to say goodbye to you... since you'll be living in the dorms...and we won-" "Shut it Kawa. I'll sneak out if I have to. We always watch the stars. Always. And if we can't, there's video call!" You exclaimed. You didn't mean to be rude to him, but you didn't feel like crying. You three walked to your school, trying to avoid the topic of you leaving.

When you reached the gates, you turned to the boys. You ran, and hugged them. "I'm going to miss you guys..." you muttered into their shoulders. "I'm going to miss you too... I'll let you two say goodbye properly. I don't want to be late on the first day," Iwaizumi said, excusing himself from the two of you. You tried to leave Oikawa's grip, but he wouldn't budge. "Stay for a bit longer? Please?" He asked. You held back the tears. "So this is it huh?" You asked, hugging him tighter. "Yeah... The great school. Shiratorizawa-" Oikawa mocked. "I don't want to go," you said. "Y-you have to... I don't want you to go either, but... you have to," Oikawa said. You nodded, tears filing your eyes. "Oikawa?" You heard a voice question. "Leave us alone, Ushiwaka," Oikawa said. You looked up, seeing the boy. "H-hi Ushiwaka," you muttered. "Why are you here? I thought you two wanted nothing to do with this school other than a rivalry?" Ushiwaka asked. "Um.. well... I was scouted for my grades and volleyball playing... and my... my p-parents accepted it," you explained, trying not to cry. "Oh. Well, in any case, welcome to Shiratorizawa. I can walk you in if you'd like?" Ushijima offered. You looked back at Oikawa, who had a look of anger and sadness written on his face. "Bye Tooru... I'll call you later, yeah?" You said. He nodded, a sad smile on his face, and he walked off. "Let us be off then," Ushijima said, extending an arm to you. You looked at it in confusion. "My apologies. I just didn't want you to get lost," he apologizes. "Oh, no I'm sorry," you apologized, taking his hand. He nodded, taking you into the school. "So what do you guys usually do on the first day?" You questioned, wanting to know what to expect. "Well, we usually head to the office to find out where our dorms are, and who our roommates are. The day is then spent just unpacking and cleaning your dorm, along with getting to know the school. You also pick up your schedule, so if you would like to walk around to find your clases, you can," Ushijima explained. You nodded, understanding the process. You both started walking to the office, when you heard a commotion. You turned your head to see a group of people picking on one kid with red hair. "Ushiwaka, umm... can I go help him?" You asked, alerting him of the situation. He nodded, jogging over with you. "Oi, cut it out!" You yelled. "And what's a girl going to do about it?" One of the boys in the group questioned. "Kick your ass," you responded. The guy finally turned around to face you. He was about a foot shorter, and you probably looked really intimidating. He also noticed Ushijima next to you, making him even more nervous and scared. "So, why don't you leave him alone?" You asked in a sickly sweet tone. The group of people rushed away from the kid, leaving the red haired boy to give a sigh of relief. "Thanks!" He chirped, acting like he wasn't getting pushed around a few second earlier. "Are you ok?" You asked, rushing over to check on him. He shifted away from your hand that was reaching for him. You took notice, and apologized. "It's fine... Say, do you play volleyball?" He asked. "Yep! I'm a middle blocker!" You stated proudly. "Really? Me too!" The boy exclaimed. You cheered. "One of us! One of us! One of us!" You chanted, laughing. He laughed along with you. Ushijima cleared his throat. "Oh... sorry. Shall we start going to the office again?" You asked. He nodded. "Hey, you want to come with us?" You offered to the boy. He nodded his head rapidly, and started walking with you guys.

On the way to the office, you learned that the boy's name was Tendou Satori. You reached the office with the boys, seeing how full it was. "Oh god..." you muttered. The boys rolled their eyes, not really wanting to wait. "Oh, Ushijima! How wonderful to see you again!" One of the office ladies said, heading over to you guys. "Oh? Are these your friends? Come with me you three, I can get you your room keys and schedules," the lady said, leading us to the other side of the office. "Alright, Ushijima, here are your keys and schedule. The volleyball team already has you signed up, so no need to worry about that. Ok, and your name?" She asked, looking over at Tendou. "Tendou Satori," he introduced. The lady nodded, looking through all the papers. "Oh, how lucky of you. You get to room with Ushijima," she said, chuckling. He smiled. "Yeah... lucky." She then looked at you. "And your name, hun?" She questioned. "Kageyama (Y/N)," you said. "Kageyama? Oh... You're the girl who's parents came here to sign you up. They were so insistent. We had scouted you, but they hadn't even received the news yet. But they really wanted you to come here," she explained. Your eyes widened. Your hands started shaking, and tears welled in your eyes. 'Don't cry. Not here, not now damn it!' "And here's your key and schedule, your room is actually right next to theirs. Your parents picked the option of you not having any other roommates, so you'll be in there by yourself," she explained. You bit your lip, uttering a thank you.

"So, what was that about?" Tendou asked as you walked out of the office, heading to your dorms. "What?" You questioned. "You were about to cry, and your hand were shaking. What was that about?" He asked once more. "Oh... I... My parents. I didn't know that they came here to enroll me. They just said that I got scouted and that they si-signed the papers," you explained. "Ok, but that doesn't explain anything," he said, trying to keep his voice low. "Because I wanted to go to Seijoh with my best friend. And they knew this. Yet they still made me come here and I can't stand the fact that I won't get to see him everyday," you explained, your voice cracking. Tendou looked at you, sensing that this friend of yours meant a lot. "I'm sorry," was all he said, before Ushijima stood still. "I am not saying this because of his talent, or the fact that his amazing abilities would have benefited our school, but Oikawa really should have come to Shiratorizawa. As I said before, not because of his talent, but for you," Ushijima stated. You stared back. "It was his choice. At least he got a choice. And I'll be fine... I think," you muttered. You three kept on your way, finally finding your dorms.

"So this is ours, and yours is next door (N/N)-Chan!" Tendou exclaimed, excitedly jumping up and down. You nodded, placing the key in the key hole, unlocking the door. You turned the handle, pushing the door open to reveal your new room. The walls were painted a bright white, a singular bed on one side, pressed against the wall without any sheets. There was a small, wooden desk in one corner, a window besides it, looking out and down onto the campus. There was also a small dresser next to the bed. You walked in, placing your backpack on the bed. You looked around. "Nothing to special. I like it. That way I can decorate how I want," you said to yourself. You walked back out into the hallway, to see Tendou and Ushijima gone. You knocked on their door, and it was immediately opened. "Oh, hi!" Tendou said as he opened the door. "Hi... um... Ushiwaka, can I ask you another question?" You asked. The stoic boy nodded. "Can we call our parents to bring us clothes and things from home, or..." you questioned, trailing off. "Yes, you may. But most parents usually bring their children's belongings a week before school starts. If you would like, you can call them, and they can bring things to you?" He suggested. "Thank you. I'll see you later," you said, leaving the dorm, shutting the door as you left. You went back into your own dorm, closing the door. You sighed, leaning your head back on the door. "I guess I have to call her, don't I?" You asked aloud. You took a big breath, grabbing your phone from your backpack, dialing your mother's number quickly. "Hello mother. I was wondering if you could bring over some of my stuff to the school? Since we stay in dorms and all that," you explained to your mother. "Mhm. I'll bring it in a couple minutes. Anything in particular you want?" She asked. "Just my clothes, the fairy lights, and shoes. Oh, and the Polaroids I have on my desk of Tooru, Iwaizumi, and I, please," you requested. "Really? Those dumb pictures? Alright, whatever you say. I'll see you in a bit," she responded, hanging up. You dropped the phone in your lap. Why had she made you come to Shiratorizawa in the first place? Both your parents knew that you wanted to go to AobaJohsai, so why did they make you come here?

About half an hour later, your mom showed up. "Here's your clothes, shoes, and the pictures. The lights and things to decorate are in this bag," she said, wheeling in a suitcase, and holding a backback.  She had two big zip block bags filled with poloroid pictures in her hands as well. "Thank you mother," you thanked, taking the backpack and pictures from her hand. You placed them on the bed before walking over to her, and wheeling the suitcase further into the room. "So, who are your neighbors?" She questioned, trying to make small talk. "Ushiwaka and Tendou Satori," you said simply, wanting her to leave. "Ushiwaka? Maybe you'll end up dating him and forget Oikawa," she said. Your eyes widened. "Mother, he's my best friend. I'd never forget him. And Ushiwaka has always been a rival until today," you snapped. She walked up to you, and smacked you across the face. The sound echoed throughout the room, feeling a sting on your face. "Mother I think it's best you leave," you said calmly. "(Y/N), darling, I'm sorry-" she tried to apologize. "I said leave," you repeated firmly, holding your face where she hit. She left, slamming the door as she did. You bit your tongue in order to not cry. You grabbed the zip block bags, looking through all the pictures. A lot of them were of you and Oikawa. There was one when you went out at sunset on a Cliffside side watch the stars. He was giving the camera a peace sign, smiling brightly, the sun shining perfectly, as the colors of the sky melded down into a dark blue from the pinks and oranges that dances across the sky. There were more pictures, but that was one of your favorites. You picked up another one, seeing it was the picture you had your brother take. It was the last first game of middle school. Oikawa and Iwaizumi had you sitting up on their shoulders, which was kind of hard, as Oikawa was taller than Iwaizumi. The next one after that had you on the ground, with Oikawa having a scared face, and Iwaizumi a shocked one. The picture after that had Oikawa by your body, Iwaizumi hitting him, and you laughing. You smiled fondly at the memory. And you began to decorate your room.

When you finished, you took a step back, and admired the work you had done. You strung up your fairy lights on the wall in front of the desk, the pictures hung up on the lights. It was a cliché thing, but it looked cute. You had a black and white bed sheets on your bed, and your drawers had your clothes in them. Your shoes were neatly lined up next to the small dresser, and you had all your school uniforms hung from a bar that was attached to the wall. There was a knock at the door, and you snapped out of your daze. You headed to the door, and opened it. You were met by Tendou's fiery hair. "Hey, Y/N! Ushiwaka and I are going to get ice cream, wanna come with?" Tendou asked. You smiled and nodded excitedly. "Sounds fun!" you said. And so, the first day went with a few hiccups, but many good things.
