Chapter 9 - 200 years later...

"I will meet you in the next life."

Two teenagers were riding on their bicycles, the school was out and they had a small task ahead of them. The teacher said they should take a historical building and make a presentation of it.

They were excited about this, they had googled a few places that might help with the project and there was one building that stood out to them.

It was an abandoned church, the town could never tear it down and the rumours began spreading that a vampire was sleeping there.

"Are you sure we should go there then, Neo?" Nathaniel asked in a hushed voice as they approached the church.

Neo was already off his bike with his hand on the small door leading up to the church.

"Yes, this will be the best presentation. I mean a vampire who is sleeping in a church building." Neo answered and pushed the gate open, "Don't tell me you are afraid?"

Nathaniel was afraid, he didn't like the supernatural mojo but Neo had been his best friend since childhood and he would always drag him along.

"I am not afraid!" Nathaniel blurted while he thumped his chest.

Neo let out a smirk, "Then after you", he gestured to the church.

Nathaniel should have known that Neo would have pulled this type of shit on him just to prove that he was a complete coward.

He turned his gaze to the church, the windows were boarded up and the door was hanging on its hinges, it wasn't very inviting at all.

He took in a small breath and walked past Neo to the church, the steps creaked as he stepped on them and he could feel his heart sitting in his throat. 'Why do I always find myself in these situations?'

Nathaniel hoped that the rumours were wrong, vampires didn't exist did they?

He stopped before the door, one was banging slightly because of the draft, he gulped and placed his hand on the doorknob.

"Is this going to take all day?" Neo asked, and Nathaniel jumped.

"Would you stop doing that?" Nathaniel replied in a hushed voice.

"Or what?" Neo smirked, "Do you think I will wake the dead?"

Nathaniel didn't reply and he pulled on the doorknob, the door creaked and he stepped inside.

This was something out of a horror movie, his mind was screaming at him to turn and run but he kept moving forward.

Neo touched his shoulder and he let out a shrill scream, "Neo! How many times have I told you, you should not sneak up on me!"

Neo began chuckling, "Come on. I know where we should start looking."

Neo moved in front of him, beckoning him to follow up the church stairs, Nathaniel's eyes darted all over the place.

He was waiting for that dramatic music you could hear when you knew something bad was going to happen, "Neo, can we like get out of here?"

Neo shook his head, "No. We are going to take a picture of this vampire and win the school assignment."

"He is a vampire and will not reflect in a picture," Nathaniel said as a matter of fact, "Everyone knows that."

"So you admit that you believe the rumours that are going around?" Neo asked bemusedly.

"I have not said that it is just common knowledge that vampires have no reflections." Nathaniel moved closer to Neo's back as they climbed the stairs one by one.

The stairs creaked with every step and they stood before a door which was surprisingly intact as if age had not touched it.

"Are you sure that you want to open that door?" Nathaniel asked in a low whisper.

"You are being afraid again," Neo replied as his hand reached for the handle to the door.

Markus's eyes fluttered inside his coffin as his ears picked up on noise, his eyes opened and his nostrils flared.

"Humans," he said with a dried throat, how long has he been sleeping?

His hand pushed against his coffin's lid until it fell off, he rose slowly and tried to lick his lips but his throat was dry...

His head turned in the direction of the door which was slowly opening, 'Foolish mortals entering a predators lair who hasn't had a drink,' he lost his train of thought, he didn't know how many years he had been sleeping.

He slowly stepped forward, 'If they have come to see a predator then I will give them one.'

When the door opened wider and his eyes fell on the two boys, in strange clothes he had to add... He sprung on the first one and hit him against the wall.

A small 'oof' escaped his lips, Markus rounded to the other one who gave him one look and screamed.

Markus prowled closer to him as he backed away from him and when he got closer to him, he paused.

"Mathias?" he whispered and lowered his hands.

"Stay away from me you monster!" the boy screamed at him, his hand had lowered to his shirt and he pulled out across.

Markus's eyes had softened, this boy was wearing Mathias's face but it didn't seem like he recognised him at all.

"I will meet you in the next life."

Mathias's words ring through his mind, was this the next life? Had his lover finally returned to his side?

"Mathias," Markus began and took another step forward, "It is me, Markus."

"I don't know who you are!" The new Mathias screamed at him, shaking the cross before him, "You- you hurt my friend! You are-"

Markus closed the distance between them and pushed the new Mathias against the wall, "That toy can not hurt me, Mathias."

"My name is not Mathias!"

Markus inhaled his scent, he smelled the same and his canines began growing longer and pressed on his bottom lip.

"What are you doing?" The new Mathias asked in surprise.

"I am going to taste you," Markus answered and parted his lips.
