Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

"Alright, I'm all ears." Logan stood in front of the Atlanta camp group, wanting to see what they were going to say.

"Hershel locked walkers in the barn." Rick simply said, Logan was mildly surprised, but after a minute of thinking about it he realized that the situation is not really that dire.

"The barn is locked?" Logan asked, which Rick confirmed.

"What did Hershel says?" Logan asked another question.

"He told Rick that no one is to go near the barn." Dale said from the side. Rick nodded and continued. "Apparently his Wife and Step-Son were bitten and became walkers, he's adamant that they're only sick, and can be cured."

"We should deal with those things in the barn! They are a danger to us all." Logan looked at Shane who seemed to be a bit agitated.

"No, they aren't." Logan shook his head which surprised everyone.

"Hold on and let me finish first. From what you told me so far, Hershel kept a relatively small number of walkers in that barn, and locked it right?" Logan said before everyone nodded at the end, some were about to argue, but Logan held a hand stopping them.

"Are we weak that few locked walkers would be considered a danger to us?" Logan asked, everyone thought about it, are those locked walkers really a danger to them?

"See? It's not a really big problem, but still a problem that can be solved by being patient. From what I know, Hershel kindly let us stay here, and even bent his rules for us. We can try to convince him and show him the truth, instead of going there, breaking the lock and maybe traumatizing him or probably one of his daughters?" Logan's voice was loud and clear to all of them. His words carry authority behind them.

"Now, I already said this before, but I will repeat it again, I don't want problems among us, we're in this together, united we stand, and divided we fall." Everyone of them heard him, even Shane's previous anger subsided.

"Now let's talk about more pressing matters. The Vatos gang which you guys know about, were attacked sometimes after Rick and the others left, some of them died, others wounded. We managed to help them evacuate yesterday, and they're going to join us." Logan said in his authoritative tone,

"Whoever attacked them, and whoever attacked Me and Maggie last time were survivors with ill-intentions, all the more reason for us to unite and get along, cuz all we have is each other to depend on!" Logan looked at everyone.

No one interjected or argued since everyone was informed about this. They know what Rick and others told them about this group too.

"How can we feed that many people?" T-Dog said even though he know the other party were good people,

"This farm can feed all of us, and many more, we can grow crops and raise livestocks here. We can also scavenge for more food to store for dire times." Logan told him.

It's true, the Greene family farm was big and they could grow crops and raise livestocks enough to feed hundreds of people, probably even more than a thousand.

"With them joining us, we have more capable manpower to help in fortifying the place, plus they're all capable fighters we can depend on to watch over our backs if we do the same." Logan always stresses on the importance of trust and loyalty among the group.

"Now for the other bad news we've gathered, but first let me tell you this, whatever that means, it won't change much of how we live." Logan pointed at all of them.

"We're ready for whatever you're gonna say." Shane said resolve to not be affected by the news.

"We're all going to become walkers when we meet our end." Logan said in a calm voice, his face showing nothing but calmness.

"!!!" Everyone was very surprised and shocked at this news, Logan looked at all of them but he noticed Rick's shock seemed different for some reason, Logan didn't linger on.

"...W-what?" It seems like Carol was shaken to the core by this news.

"As you heard. Once we die, we're all going to become walkers. Unless we damage the brain to prevent us from turning." Logan continued as calmly as before.

"How is this not gonna change much!?! It literally changes everything! once we die we're still gonna become one of them." Some were panicking, others were thinking deeper about it.

"Admittedly this does raise some concerns, but under natural and expected death, it won't change much. If any of us die, I trust the others will do what's right and prevent them from turning, it's what I want for myself, I'd be grateful for it." Logan explained it for them properly to alleviate their concerns.

"How are the others?" Logan asked about the other four guys.

"The old man said they will be able to move in less than a week, but told us to let them rest more." Guillermo appreciated the concern.

"Let them rest for at least 10 days, what do you think about the place?" Logan instructed to which Guillermo nodded.

"This place is big, and far away from any walkers infested place." Guillermo said while walking with Logan.

"For now, eventually walkers will start to move from the cities and spread out, and there are hostile survivors, which I encountered ten of them in a nearby town." Logan said, which made Guillermo lose his poker face and look at him.

"Don't worry, I've dealt with all of them. But I don't know if they have more friends out there, so we're going to be on full-alert, try to speed up the work." Logan assured and informed the guy about their plans.

"Alright, we'll do what you say." Guillermo nodded.

Logan started planning on how to divide the men, he needed some to remain within the farm to guard the place, he decided to let Jimmy, Glenn, and Miguel to stay and protect the place.

Not that the place lacks protection, since most of the inexperienced ones began training with Rick and Shane once a day, sometimes Logan would handle it. They would always drive about 5 miles away from the farm to not attract any kind of attention to it.

The women are carrying weapons too, and are gonna become better at handling weapons, and won't need men's protection for the most part.

Logan wanted everyone to adapt.

Logan and Maggie also talked, he assured her that no one is gonna force them to kill the walkers in the barn, but he promised to convince Hershel, probably make him and Beth come to terms with the fact that those are not their family anymore.

Maggie is still hurt and sad, but she accepted it and decided to move on. And be there for her sister and father when they need her. Logan was very impressed by her strength of will, and conviction to stand with her family.

He also admitted to love her company and her existence in his life, which will probably be full of planning for their survival and improvements. He understood that having a significant other is far more important than he thought, in fact it gave him another reason to accomplish what they already planned.

Right now Logan was with Maggie in the Humvee, while Glenn, T-Dog, Miguel, and Felipe came with them in one of the two box trucks they brought yesterday from Atlanta.

Logan along with Maggie will bait the walkers in the vicinity of the high school FEMA Shelter away while the others will venture inside and try to load all the supplies they can in the truck, medical equipment, meds, food, and fuel in the abandoned cars around the place being the priorities, anything else would be a bonus.

As the Humvee reached the place ahead of the truck Logan and Maggie nodded at each other before he sounded the vehicle's horn.

BEEEEEEP! BEEEEEP-BEEEEEEP!!

Walkers start to move into their direction, while Logan waits until they get close to start driving slowly to keep the walkers focused on them. Maggie had an assault rifle in her hands, since she already knows how it works. All she needed is to work on her aim, especially while moving, and on moving targets.

BEEEEP! BEEEP-BEEEP!!

The ride was relatively safe, but Logan can't lower his guard down, not after what happened last time, his eyes would move to every possible place that someone can hide in, and ambush others.

Fortunately things worked out well, Logan and Maggie managed to bait even more walkers, reducing their numbers significantly  in the entire county and away into the opposite direction of the farm.

Maggie would shoot some that come in the way of the Humvee as a way of practice.

After getting the herd a fair distance away, Logan speeds up to take a detour to return back to the farm after the others confirmed taking the things they came for and were heading back to the farm ahead of the two.

The humvee passed the still extending Spiked barrier and Moat, Logan after all made sure point the weakest spots in the fence as part of the group responsible for the moat would use some lumber to reinforce those parts, along with turning the fence into a secondary spiked barrier with more spikes than the first one.
