Chapter 19 - Chapter 19

Logan and Maggie took the walkers to the town they emptied before, then took a detour before going back to the farm.

As they reached the place, they couldn't help looking at the scene. On one side, the materials they've collected so far, there are few construction vehicles, like a crane, two scissor lifts, and the four dump trucks.

Different materials from tons of cement, lots of precast concrete panels. Height =18 ft or 5.5 meters, width = 10 ft or 3.1 meters, thickness of 1.6 ft or 20 inch.

There are big stacks of bricks and blocks, a lot of metal beams, and many other materials. The box trucks were filled with all kind of tools.

"We can finally start building that wall." Logan said with a happy smile.

"What comes after?" Maggie beside him asked.

"The wall is just the start, we're going to work on building homes, and upgrade the place further, we're also gonna secure the prison to make it a secondary base." Logan listed a few things he thought about.

"Looks like the road is quite long ahead of us." Maggie said, sounding a bit expecting and a bit tired.

"It will be worth all the trouble, when the next generation comes and finds a safe haven to grow in." Logan assured her before they got out of the Humvee.

"Hey Logan! you gotta check this out, man you will be surprised." Shane called him standing along with Rick, and Guillermo.

"Good job driving those walkers away." Rick said, greeting the duo along with Shane, and Guillermo.

"Did others brief you on what we've encountered out there?" Logan asked as Maggie went to the house, since she wanted to meet her dad and sister.

"Yeah, more hostile survivors, helicopter passing by the highway." Shane listed and Logan nodded.

Rick also added his piece, "Good job bringing all those people by the way."

"So, what's the good news you want to tell me, other than all the materials you've brought of course." Logan said curious to see what they got for him.

"You have to see." Shane patted him in the back pointing toward three vehicles that are different from the rest. "It's inside those magnificent trucks."

"Shall we go check them?" Logan was getting impatient.

Checking inside those reinforced trucks which became apparent to Logan they were anti-riot trucks, and what was inside them were many many sets of anti-riot full armor suits.

"Who found this?" Logan's expression was blank when he saw them.

"Daryl did, but he's out right now." Rick said

"Remind me to thank him later." Logan said as a happy smile formed on his face.

"This will give us protection from walkers, and we can equip over 200 people with them." Shane said with a big smile on his face.

"By the way, Hershel finally let us take down the walkers in the barn, we're going to bury them later in wooden coffins." Logan was surprised to see that Hershel finally accepted reality and let go of his long gone wife and stepson.

"He's out right now with Otis, Daryl, and Carol trying to catch some animals that remain in the nearby farms." Logan nodded in approval. They will need all the livestocks they can get, especially cows, hopefully they can catch a decent number of horses, for when there is no fuel for vehicles.

Logan greeted everyone, and they started discussion over the wall plans, where to start? How many teams will there be?...etc, he also told them that he plans to make a council to make decisions regarding different subjects.

He wants himself to focus on the security of their growing community, be the one who protects them from danger, and make sure everyone is safe. He wants Rick and Hershel in that Council, he also wants Daryl and Shane to be under him when he makes their armed force, with Rick joining the armed force too.

You can't expect everyone to be willing to fight. Soldiers protect civilians, while the civilians work within the community to develop their way of life.

"Welcome home." Hershel and Logan greeted each other with a hug.

"It's really good to be back." Logan said happy to see the old man who is like a father figure to him.

"Nothing beats the warmth of family after a long tiring day of work." Hershel said with a little smile.

"I heard what happened, I am sorry for your loss." Logan offered the old man. Who nodded "It's okay son, I should've let go far longer, but I kept convincing myself they can be cured because I couldn't bear the thought of losing them."

"It's for the best, for yourself, Maggie, and Beth. You did the right thing, all we can do is pray for them." Logan said which made Hershel think for a moment before he took a pocket watch from his pocket.

"This watch was given to me by my Father, who got it from his father too, now I want you to have it." Logan looked shocked, if this indicates anything it means that Hershel accepted him as a son, and the man for his daughter.

"Thank you, I will do my best for her." Logan said which made Hershel nod in approval.

"Now if you will excuse me, I have cows to take care of." With that Hershel left Logan who took q while looking at the pocketwatch before he put it in an inner pocket.

The next day, Logan woke up under the sheet on bed, Maggie sleeping on top of him, both were totally naked showing what transpired last night.

He just laid there looking at her peaceful sleeping face, one of the few things he likes to do every morning when they sleep together. Watching her peaceful expression bring him some kind of calmness.

"Mhm, morning." Maggie opened her eyes fully awake and greeted him to which he leaned for a kiss before returning it.

"Wanna take a shower? Or stay in bed longer?" Logan asked, not particularly in hurry since they earned a little rest from everything.

"Let's stay here a bit longer before taking a shower" Maggie snuggled as she wrapped her arms around his neck tightly, to which he responded by wrapping his around her back and waist.

In the end they took three hours to finally be ready to start their day. outside most of the people were up and doing something, some are coming others are going.

Everyone had patrol duty, Daryl was preparing his arrows, crossbow and knife to go out for another hunt.

Logan looked at Maggie, "I will be with Lori, Carol and Patricia." She replied to which he nodded and the two separated after a goodbye kiss.

"Hey Daryl." Logan exclaimed happily while making his way to the resident hunter.

"What?" Daryl has become more calm lately.

"Wanna go for a hunt? I've been preoccupied before, but I don't want my skills to rust." Logan said since he was something of a hunter himself.

"Be here in a half hour ." Daryl said.

Logan nodded and went to get his bow which he hadn't used since their time in the camp.

The two hunters walked together while looking for any tracks around. Logan's eyes scanned the surroundings for any trace that animals could leave behind.

"I still haven't thanked you for finding those suits." Logan said while Daryl was still focused on their task.

"It was a lucky strike. Besides, you did more than that for everyone." Daryl said calmly. The guy has stopped giving everyone the cold shoulder and became more quiet.

"It may be true, but those suits are gonna make us less concerned with a walker's bite for the most part, if there is anything you want I wish to help with." Logan said.

"Keep doing what you're doing, and if we find my brother. I want him in with us." Daryl said to which Logan nodded without hesitation, Logan respected the guy's dedication to find his brother.

"Don't worry, once the walls are built we will take the prison. There, I will build an armed force. I hope you and your brother when wd find him to be part of it." Logan said to which Daryl nodded.

The two continued their hunt, which proved to be a bit resourceful since it was a joint of two hunters, one with more experience, while the other got good senses.

Result was two deers, 8 pigeons, and three rabbits which was really great. The animals seem to start appearing around this place since they start regularly taking down walkers around making it relatively safe from walkers.

After they handed the preys to others, Daryl was part of the Patrol team right now, so he left to join the ones that are going. Everyone who is going out right now is wearing a riot suit from the ones they found except Daryl since he finds them uncomfortable to which Logan told them to let him be.

Logan himself is going out with a few others to install some sirens in different areas to bait walkers away from their direction whenever a horde appears. He was doing this with Rick, Felipe, Miguel, Andrea, Amy, Glenn,  Michael(firefighter), and Andrew, and Liam. Each two will handle installing two sirens in two different places that are further from each other and from the farm.

Things were fine until they met a group of survivors while they were going back. The other party at first wanted to play nice, asking if we've seen some of their friends that went missing around these parts, and also asked if we got somewhere safe to stay in.

Surprisingly they were talking about the ones who attacked me and Maggie, since I remember some of them who fit the description, and then comes the shocking revelation when Felipe and Miguel snapped and started shooting them, taking down 2 out of 23 from a surprise attack.

The two sides started a shootout which the group won. Logan easily took down 7 of them, while Rick took down 3, surprisingly Andrea took 3, and Felipe who took 1 early plus another 1 in the shootout, Glenn, and Liam took 2 each, Miguel, Amy, Michael, and Andrew took down one each.

It was revealed shortly after, that this was the group that attacked them in Atlanta and killed their brothers and the elderly along with them. They were emotional to know the murderers of their brothers got what they deserved.

Everyone went back afterward, greeting the now under construction wall on their way back, things are starting to go well for them.
