The Wild One navigated up and down on the waves as it sailed ever closer to the Island of New Waldenburg off the coast of the continent of Narel. Captain Folly looked out over the bow with his spyglass to spot a mass of land in the distance.
"Land ho!" Folly shouted.
His quartermaster ran up to him and grabbed the spyglass.
"Aye sir, that's New Waldenburg island. But why are we messing with the Elves, captain?" The quartermaster asked.
"I haven't been completely honest with you Gene. We're working on a contract for the Oceanlandia Government." Folly answered
"What?"
"Opus wants to arm resistance against the Elven Empire across their colonies, but he doesn't want to make it look like he's doing it. So he's contracting pirate ships to smuggle muskets in to make it look like a criminal operation."
"How good is the money?"
"A thousand gold coins."
"Gods. That's more than raiding a half dozen vessels."
"Indeed."
The two walked off the bow and back to the quarterdeck. An hour and a half later they arrive on the island of Fort Cond. The city was a major coastal city overlooking the ocean. The coast was dotted with large brick buildings and a large marble statue in the center of town towered over the buildings. The ship docks at the harbor and the crew disembark carrying crates filled with muskets. They walked to a warehouse on the edge of the harbor right beside the naval base. A large merchant ship towered above them as Captain Folly, Gene and thirty other men delivered the crates to the warehouse.
Inside the warehouse was a young elven man dressed to the nines in dirty rags. He had a cutlass by his side and two pistols.
"I wouldn't think A rebel as an elven man." Folly said with a hint of suspicion in his voice.
"The resistance has many allies within the colonizing population." The man replied.
"Anyway, here's your weapons, all of them."
The young man kicked the top off of one of the crates to reveal a bunch of muskets.
"This will do us much good." The man said in a nervous tone.
"They won't do you much good." Folly said
Folly then shot the man with his pistol. Just then a bunch of elven soldiers rushed into the warehouse with their swords drawn.
"It was a trap!" Folly shouted.
Gene drew his pistol and shot a soldier in the chest. The pirates then began clashing with the men. The sound of the steel clashing was deafening as the clanking sounds bounced off the wooden walls. Gene slit the throat of one of the soldiers unleashing a stream of hot purple blood.
Folly then charged his way through the soldiers pushing them to the ground. The pirates then rushed out following him. They ran to the ship, and the elven soldiers fired their pistols at them. Five of the pirate's were slain by this volley of fire yet the men keep running. More and more soldiers diverged on the harbor and so did some locals preparing to do vigilantism. A small cutter sailed around the harbor and fired its two cannon at the men. Hot lead was raining down on the pirate's from every direction. Once thirty men strong there were no only twelve. By the time they made it to the ship only seven remained.
The crew on board the ship were having a similar problem. They were mostly pinned down as bullets rained down on them. Folly rushed towards the helm as the lead crashed down around him striking some members of the crew. Gene tried to follow but he took a musket ball in the back of the chest and fell to the ground.
He tried crawling but his lungs filled to the brim with blood as he crawled.
"Gene!" Folly shouted.
Gene lay his head down and soon slipped off the mortal coil. Folly took the helm and was immediately struck in the arm.
"Fire!" He shouted.
The cannon roared to life as they unleashed a powerful volley of lead onto the city. The cannonballs ripped through the brick buildings and forcefully gutted their insides. The civilian mob rushed away in fear as the battle hardened soldiers ducked into cover. A few buildings were left standing by a hair as the ship sailed away.
Upon leaving the city, Folly looked back and said,
"It wasn't worth it. "
