The ship rocked restlessly on the Ocean tides during the night, in his bed, Pirate Captain Edmund Fletcher slept soundly beside his wife Agulla.
It had been more than a fortnight since he had robbed the Temple of Sofier in Jushu. Since that heist, he and his crew had been hearing faint voices during the night time. A few of his crew men had even vanished without a trace.
On this night the voices would grow louder, and louder. Loud enough to wake the Captain himself.
"What in God's name are these rammed voices." Edmund shouted in anger.
As he looked over to his wife Agulla, he noticed her fast asleep. It was as if she was deaf to the mysterious voices despite complaining about them the night before. She also seemed not to hear his enraged outburst.
The voices appeared to be coming from the Brig. A small room in the back of the ship where Edmund would store prisoners. Yet he hadn't any prisoners in the Brig.
"I've encountered sirens, ghosts, and many other creatures. I've never met sirens with such ugly voices, I own a ghost gem, so I'd know if a ghost was around. What could it be that is making these noises." He shouted in anger.
He then grabbed his cutlass and a light orange bottle of elixir. He then walked down to the brig and kicked open the door, to find the source of the voices.
In front of him was an insidious sight.
A group of fifteen translucent entities with stretched faces and skinny limbs, they had no legs, and they wore long dresses that were torn at the bottom.
They hissed at him.
"Varpers." He said as his heart sank into the out of his stomach.
The ghostly figures rushed him. He pulled out his sword and poured the orange potion upon it. His sword lit up in hot flames. He swung at the nearest one. The Sword passed straight through her. He then decided to run. He rushed through the hallways but was swiftly baffled up by many hands.
He was then dragged to the floor and they all crowded around him. Within an instant he had vanished. That night the Varpers disappeared the crew of Edmunds ship.
When Edmund came to, he was surrounded by his crew. To his glee he was alive, but to his horror he discovered the brittle bones of the few crewmen who had vanished the nights before. He looked over to his crew to see them all dawning gray beards, liver spots, and wrinkles.
He laid eyes on his wife who was now old too.
"Dear Gods." He uttered to himself.
Him and his men, then all turned to dust, leaving nothing but bones.
